Moloch's Priest by Colestia

[raw]
made by Colestia for LD 43 (JAM)

ONCE A MONTH, THE PRIESTLY ORDER GATHERS TO RECEIVE A SACRED SIGN FROM THE ANCIENT ONE: MOLOCH!

As High Priest , your task is to interpret this message, and ultimately to decide who should be sacrificed. You must depend on your advisors, DEXTRA and SINISTRA. But be careful, revolution is at the gates.

Oh, um, and Moloch represents capitalism.

[Thank you to a certain PhiRo for doing the voice of Moloch for us. We opted out of the Audio category because we used some canned samples for the music, but the Moloch speech was recorded late Sunday night during the Jam.]

Wow! I really enjoyed this game. Right off the bat it gave an incredibly eerie vibe, and the wonderfully creepy voices only added to that. Interpreting messages from a deity is a unique take on the theme, and yet it tied into it so well. And the ending was the perfect way to top it all off. A wonderful game with some wonderful commentary, this is probably my favorite game I've seen so far from this jam. Great job!!

Best game of this jam I've played so far. I like who you implement the theme. This game make me think about politics and religion, it' rare. Nice job guys!

Awesome work! The mood was particularly on point, along with Moloch's model.

Only criticism is I would have liked some instant feedback after each choice on the impact it made to the world rather than moving on straight away.

Great mood. If you had audio as a category I would have given you 5 stars for it!

i absolutely adore this game.

the shader effect of MOLOCH's texture and its contrast with the rest of the world is mindblowing, the graphics and palette are on point in guiding the player in story and feel, and the freaking SOUNDDD was so gooodddd!!

the only thing that this game is lacking is gameplay, as the choosing implies that there would be a branching story, and it just ends up being a tiny bit disappointing.

love the game to bits and will definitely take the time to play all of your other games in the near future.

thank you!

Yeah, too bad you had to opt out of audio, the audio was excellent here! I hope you'll be compensated by getting great scores in mood category.

I loved the way Moloch looks here! In general, really cool concept for this game.

Great entry! The monster so disgusting, this shader is very fit. Also, sound-design is good.

Awesome entry! You set an amazing mood with a nice colour scheme and some really fitting atmospheric music/sounds. The graphics and gameplay were simple but it was enough to set the great feel of the game. I really liked the game although I felt that I may not have paid enough attention in the beginning since I didn't realize that there were different choices until the third sacrifice.

Great game! The mood and the atmosphere are awesome! The story, the voices and the sounds are good and increase the mood. The choices are interesting. Maybe can improve the gameplay adding different variety of actions (change a bit the gameplay, not only take the message in the altar --> talk with the priests --> take the bottle --> use it in the altar --> restart).
Overall, it's an incredible game with an awesome mood. Congrats!

Very good game with an outstanding atmosphere! That Moloch is just terrifying, both visually and sonically. The choices are quite tough and gruesome. Really liked this game for it's mood and message, good job!
