Temple Dungeon 42 by BetelgeuseMan

[raw]
made by BetelgeuseMan for LD 42 (COMPO)

Short description

This is my first Ludum Dare. After the announcement of the topic, I had many ideas that took a long time and started working on the final version only closer to noon on the first day.

The feature of the game is that the running of the space here plays the role of limiting moves. You have to get to the central portal until all the blocks disappear.

How to play

The goal of the game is to reach the portal in the center of a randomly generated map. If the stones are on the way, then they can be destroyed with Destroy skill. You can also pick-up Weapon Upgrade to increase damage to the Stones.

How to run game

Windows

  • Unzip game
  • Run app

Linux [Tested on Linux Mint]

  • Unzip game
  • Check whether the properties of running the file as an application
  • Run app

Sorry for this English, the translation was made in a special program.

It gave me a 404 error on your game link. Mention me in a comment when you fix it, I want to play your game.

@zachw136 It's strange, but I like everything works. I checked with several browsers (Opera, Firefox, YandexBrowser). Just in case, I added links to Dropbox. Still not working any link?

I got it working. The idea was a good one and the artwork and graphics are good. the game play is a step in the right direction. I think it would be worth pursuing a possible mobile game with some work. Good job!

@zachw136 Thank you very much for your feedback! Initially, planned more items / various enemies and a couple of interesting mechanics, but then everything went slightly off-schedule. But despite all the difficulties, it was a wonderful experience for me.

Great game! The overall look is very nice, and the theme is met. I will admit, the music did get a little repetitive, good try anyway. Game concept is a little unique, but due to maps being randomly generated, some high levels you could safely walk to the middle without any challenge. The great overall look (graphics + atmosphere) makes up for it though, well done.

@shinysteel Thank you! Initially, a slightly more thoughtful generation of maps was planned, but in the aftermath it was necessary to abandon it, since there was no time to implement everything. There were also thoughts to refuse procedural generation, but the variant with a simple hexagonal generation seemed to me the most successful in this situation and with such a small time reserve.

Nice little game to spend some time in. I think some of the controls could be better, like let me move in the general direction of where I clicked if I didn't click on an adjacent tile, or picking something up if I click on it without having to change modes (in general I don't think you need the modes at all).

@frank-gevaerts Thank you, you are right. I have already realized that I have implemented control in the game incorrectly. Action modes are really not needed. After LD I plan to change this, as well as add some things that I did not have time to implement (for example, the pause menu).

This is a fun little game and i like the turn base aspect and how you used the theme. A couple things a would have liked are a way to see what action you are currently on (maybe just a little box around the one your doing) and a noticeable difficulty increase that would help make the levels less repetitive.

Nice game. The music is a little boring and I wish I could use the arrow keys to select the tile, but other than that it's good.

Lovely graphics! The gameplay might be more fluid if it automatically decided the action instead of needing separate buttons.

The core gameplay is simple, maybe a bit too much. Once you understood what is the goal, the levels fly by without much variation.
It didn't felt like the game was getting harder, just random level after random level.
It is fluid though, and the graphics are rather nice ! Gratz for the submission !

Nice idea! The randomization of the level adds some neat twists although for me the majority of my time was spent going down in mostly a straight line to make it to the portal. The art style is pretty great, loved the turn based feel to it! Congrats on your first Ludum Dare entry, good job!

@awix You have an excellent game, I saw it in VK (by hashtag LD42). I liked the drawing style, I can more easily model in 3d, but I really like the pixel 2D! Also very good palette! Good luck to you too! :)
