UNLOCKR by yuigoto

A sorta infinite "runner" for claustrophobic people

I decided to tackle both Ludum Dare 42 and LOWREZJAM 2018 with this entry! >:)

You're locked in a corridor full of doors, the wall is closing in!

Open your way out and avoid being crushed by unlocking the doors and advancing!

Look at the shadow coming from below to see how close is the wall. It takes 60 seconds for it to close.

Every door you open hands you 3 seconds, every 10 doors give you an extra 3 seconds.

Controls: - Left/Right: turn the dial; - Enter: start/go back to title;

UPDATE 16/08:

  • Fixed a line of code that gave extra seconds only in the first doors, should've been every 10 doors;
  • Fixed the counter text, changed it to red, for better readability;

Nice simplistic style, not entirely sure how well it fit the theme though.
One complaint is that when the timer bar is in the center it becomes hard to see the text.

Oi Fabio! :0D Your game is great and fun like always! Haha! I really enjoyed playing it. :0D I like the feeling to get better and better at finding the correct turning point and when the screen is nearly completely covered in the shadow I get a rush to get some more locks done! Haha! That all sums up in a great experience! :0D

Also the music really fits the game! :0D It has this drive that makes you want to unlock even faster. :0D And the sound effects are really satisfying. :0D Great job!!

The only thing that is a bit hard to accomplish, is, like Celdur said, to read the direction and the amount of turning when the screen is half shadowed. But apart from that your entry is really great! \:0D/
Congratulation! :0D

My highscore so far is 20! \:0D/

this feels really good to interact with! i love the acceleration on the spinning of the lock, and the look of everything is :ok_hand: great audio work, especially the clicking sound

I could just sit and spin the lock back and forth forever. it's incredibly satisfying to play. great work!

Cool style, feels great, music is great.

Gameplay wasn't immediately obvious. I first tried to match the number to the next number, and nothing happened. Then I tried to alternate between left or and right, changing directions whenever I heard a click randomly. After a while it stopped working and I was still confused. Eventually I realised you just gotta hold left or right depending on the topmost displayed L or R.

Not the strongest gameplay but feels good enough that some people might just sit and spin that all day long.

@celdur thanks! :P The idea is that a wall is closing in from behind you, so you have to unlock doors to not get crushed! The timer bar is actually the wall's shadow, the idea initially is that it should hinder you, but backfired a bit too much :P

@ruerob-hyky thanks, sir, as always! :D I kinda had a tough time, since I ended up deleting the code on Sunday out of frustration, but I'm thankful I did finish this LD version, before I could go update it for LOWREZJAM update! The shadow over text should hinder a bit, but not this much tho :P

@thristhart thanks! :D I kinda concentrated too much on making the controls work and making a nice dial sound (there's actually 12 different sounds for the dial and 4 of each for door/lock :P).

@brygpo thanks! XD It did pay off concentrating on this part! I did had tons of satisfying moments testing the lock hahaha!

@tuism thanks! I wish I hadn't deleted the source out of frustration on sunday, I could've made something better and explained the controls in a nicer way. I kinda concentrated on making the dial for too long at the last minute, to make it sound and turn in a nice way, I missed other points :/

Thanks everyone who played! :D
