Mini Mod by Riker Greenslade

[raw]
made by Riker Greenslade for LD 40 (JAM)

This is the adventure of a small robot, chasing after his missing master. Jump, dash, and slice your way through a dangerous gauntlet to complete the first leg of your journey.

Customize your robot to best suit both your playstyle and the challenges that face you - but be wary, as the more modifications you apply the more difficult the game becomes!

Beautiful game - incredible graphics, great music and sound effects. Keyboard controls were quite strange though, and I couldn't really get used to them. I would have been more comfortable with wasd and mouse, and using shift to dash or something. Overall though, extremely impressive for 72 hours!

Hey thanks alot! Yeah it was designed to use a game pad, keyboard was a little bit of an after thought. If you've got one around please give it another go. Thanks again!

Very impressive game. The controls take some getting used to, but they are quick and responsive, so its fun to learn.

The game looks amazing, the robot in particular. I liked the music, it was very atmospheric, I didn't feel it quite matched the visuals though, which gave me more of a dystopian cyberpunk feel.

I would have preferred a health power-up to reward me for getting further in your game, the difficulty is a tad high for an LD game. The enemies are easy enough, but it's very easy to make a mistake and lose some health, that makes it difficult to progress very far in the time I have to play.

Beautiful art and audio. Very nice mood. Motion feels incredible. Best game I've seen so far. Really impressive. Only negative points is the boss which is not targeting you and you sometimes lose track of how many hit points you still have. Well done.

Looks very pretty. I really like the detail that the music provides, with the extra instruments playing when you take certain actions. It looks very, very polished for an LD game.

Looks pretty and feels nice, I had bit of trouble with the controls at the beginning but it worked out in the end.
I would like some sort of explanation of what every upgrade does, because I didn't really know what to do with half of them. Some sort of health regeneration would also be nice!
Nice Entry!

Great graphics and modifications design!

The font size of modification and in-game menu are too small for me. I use the controller to play the game, but the modification part is not working for controllers.

It's amazing on how much you guys managed to get done. The art is amazing. The downsides I can say for certain is that if you're controlling the menu using a controller, it's hard to tell which one is selected. Also the audio feels really weak when fighting enemies. The music cue for killing things is pretty cool but it didn't match well with a hit of a sword. Also the attack animations don't feel strong, adding weapon trails for it will help. I also found a lack of use for the dash mechanic as well. There is also a lack of visual feedback for when you are hit as well. Overall, great job and hopefully you guys will continue this.

The game was beautiful, and the world seemed well designed. I really enjoyed my time going through it. The only trouble I had was that when you were standing on the ground pressing into a wall, you'd walljump instead of normal jump. It kinda messed up some of my platforming.

I liked the graphics and the audio separately, but it was a little confusing to hear soothing musical tones I more associate with samurai combined with a robot with a laser sword. The gameplay was fun and the controls were tight (when using a gamepad as suggested). My biggest issue with the game was that the sword slash felt too slow, and there was no way to upgrade it to make it faster. Even with the few minor issues I had, I did really enjoy this game and I thought it was a good take on the theme. Nice work!

***Nice game ! ***
I really enjoyed graphics, music and sounds effects. They were well balanced and I really liked the mix between Futuristic music and Chinese sounds when you get hit or you kill.
But i think this is really hard, specially on AZERTY keyboard..
Miscalibrated Sensors is for me completely useless and overkill because you don't see anything at all.. It doesn't make it harder to play, it litteraly make it impossible to play :/
I didn't manage to go to the end, a got killed in a tricky place involving dash skills x)
Overall this is a super game, try to scale up the UI font and play button make a while to launch the game (Add a progress bar animation ?).
Try my game if you want, ***Good luck !***

Wow! Arguably the best looking game i have played on ludum dare! Graphics is simply superb. I cant believe this was made in 3 days! How long have you guys been making games? Were all of the assets made from scratch as well? Simply superb quality guys. Really well done.

I am sort of a beginner to making games. But for ludum dare i went for a slightly bigger project - A girlfriend dating simulator - We were a team of 2 people and made the game in just 2 days! Please rate and play our game as well! Thanks!

The integration of musical stings for combat was excellent! The dashing and attacking was really fun and the SFX made it quite rewarding to execute! There was a lot of dropping down in the level design, which wasn't really facilitated well by the camera. 90% of my damage came from either falling on top of enemies or jumping over a gap into a bullet. While I could sometime hit the bullet before it did damage, you down have a downwards attack to use when an enemy appears below. The use of the theme for picking your perks and tools before the game starts to scale the speed of the game was great! I played a few times because it was so enjoyable! Awesome work team!

Nice game, the zip didn't unpack properly when I first downloaded so I ended up beating it with no sound and didn't realize there was supposed to be sound until I read the other comments lol. After re-extracting it, the sound makes the game much better. the little chimes and drums added to the music when things happen are a great touch. Very polished, nice work.

Really beautiful graphics, i love the little robot and the laser sword designs :) the music and overall atmosphere of the sound design were awesome as well, gameplay wise i liked it, the presence of dash buttons as well as the sword that can block bullets were nice touches.

I'd just say that i found the movement a slight bit too floaty for my taste but other than that it felt solid, i also really liked how customisable the difficulty is ^^ and i liked the "DarkSide" option with the red saber XD

a real good job on this entry guys :)

Great looking game. Controls well, and the audio is really good. Like playing around with the customization and balancing difficulty to find the right balance. Level having multiple paths, some of which you can't reach unless you have the right upgrades, was a nice touch.

The enemies playing different notes in succession as you killed them was a really great idea.

I do wish swinging the sword was a bit faster. There were times with multiple enemies, or even an enemy and projectiles coming at me, and I wouldn't be able to swing fast enough to really handle them. The attack animation would have to finish before I could swing again. Maybe could add in like a second and/or third attack animation after the first for like a combo affect when attacking?

I asked you on stream, but I really do hope that you continue working on this and getting a full game developed from it. I would love to play through this with multiple levels and the depth you could add as a full game.

Keep at it.

Very impressive showing for a game jam. The instrumental sound in particular is amazing and very clever. Love the self-regulated difficulty as well, reminds me of Bastion's system in a really good way.

Nice game. The music and sound effects were especially amazing. For me, the game was too difficult though. The controls too heavy and it felt like I was doing a lot of effort to play. I don't know if the "too much inertia" when I stop moving was deliberate or not but this one really killed me :D

It is very clear there was a lot of effort in making this game from all the team and I commend you a lot for that but I think you should have focused more on the controls than on the polish cause the polish is very extravagant here :D I understand that it was meant to be played with a gamepad but still I think the majority of players would have appreciated it more if the keyboard controls were easier too.

All in all, I think what you did here is pretty amazing. Congratulations :)
