Scale Run by PanicTheFirst

[raw]
made by PanicTheFirst for LD 41 (JAM)

In this game you play a 2D Platformer, but with 3D Platformer controls. You have to avoid obstacles and jump over holes like in a 3D Platformer but with a 2D Perspective.

Tip: Try to run diagonal and then jump to grow or shrink while moving forward.

Wow that's really clever! The jumping physics were pretty frustrating in the more challenging sections, but it was still fun.

I love the idea of perspective affecting gameplay like that. Really outside of the box thinking, combining 2d and 3d like that

This is a really cool mechanic that leads to some interesting puzzling, but it's odd that the player character spins when standing still and the jump distance of your perspective is only applied when standing still. Nonetheless it's a great idea and I would be interested to see more of it.

Really awesome idea, but i have to say the levels are unforgiving and not very fun.

Hey! Nice game idea.
Some tips:
* I prefer "performance mode" visuals. :)
* Jump behavior could be improved a little.

LOL I don't know why you added a walking animation if it's only shown when the player is walking into a wall. Also, I think there should be an option to have W be towards the camera and S be away from it. That way, the W which is higher than the S will increase the player size, and the S, which is lower than the W will decrease it. I know it's supposed to have 3D controls, but its more intuitive the way that I described. Nice graphics, but the game is pretty hard

Very innovative game! But it is hard to jump across the gap...I guess maybe I didn't get the right character size?

I’m not sure if you were able to see it, but I played your game on my stream at https://www.twitch.tv/saoigames tonight.

I like how you played with perspective. The visuals were really well done. I however struggled with the jumps. There were times when I felt I should be able to jump and it wasn't letting me. I don't know if it was a bug or just very strict rules about what size your character can be in order to safely jump and not hit an invisible wall.

I really hope you continue to work on this after the ludum dare.

Great concept!

Had some issues though: Sometimes the character had problems jumping up an obstacle. It kind of slided back when I had the feeling it was getting high enough to get to the top. The solution was to jump as a smaller Version, but it should be the opposite? Here is a screenshot of the Situation, the character in the screenshot was not able to jump over:

Also the smaller character shoud jump less wide than the bigger one? At least that would be more intuitive in my eyes. Also the character is a bit creepy looking. :)

Overall a really nice game and it was fun to play. You should definately Keep working on it!
Ah, and thanks for the WebGL Version ;)

Awesome idea. Graphics are striking and simple but don't feel lacking. Trancey music is sweet too. But the lack of air control plus the demand for precision made me quit pretty fast after the 2nd checkpoint.

I am a real sucker for these silhouette games (like Limbo) so this instantly won my heart. I really enjoyed the core mechanic of changing yourself to fit the depth but the game, at some point, requires very precise depth-perception. Having some kind of different-colored ornament, maybe a scarf, might help eye-balling the depth-perception.

I liked everything else in this game other than that jumping felt odd sometimes. Really great game! :)

The idea is really good, and the graphics and music is amazing. The controls is okay, but it still needs some improvements. The player character do often collides with obstacles he is not near touching. But overall is this a very well made LD game. Well done.

The idea seems to be very original, well done! Minimalistic artstyle fits perfectly. The background music is good, but it feels like the game misses sound effects for jumps, etc.

Overall good game!
