Boxed by Devio
For my first ever entry to Ludum Dare, I present to you my submission for Ludum Dare #42!

Boxed is a very simple game where you rush around trying to deliver parcels to impatient customers before they leave or your warehouse runs out of space!
I am not a 3D modeller or artist by any rate so the whole game was made as best as I can with the tools and knowledge I had. The art style is very basic but I think it turned out well. I think i "Might" have deviated from the initial theme a bit, but I will admit I got carried away haha!
The controls are very basic and honestly could use work. All controls are listed in the game but I will quickly go over them now!
Left click: Move Right-click: Pick up box / Give the box
To Give a box, Simply right click on the customer in front of the queue (You need to be close enough to interact with them)
The story of the game is, your colleagues have gone out for coffee during a quiet hour, and you have been left on your own with your friend Dodger Jammie. Out of nowhere many customers started to pour in, so Dodger rushed into the back and started passing you boxes gently to help with the incoming horde of unruly postal office users.
I do not expect to go far in my first entry, But I hold good expectations with my project just because of its quirkiness.
I hope you enjoy playing my game, as I enjoyed making it!
I hope to continue the development of this project when the comp is over! So stay tuned for that!
Have a good day, My name is Mark Dearman (Devio) and enjoy!!!!!
Tools Used :
- Unity
- Paint.net
- Blender
- Visual Studio
NOTE: No audio currently in the game, I couldn't make any due to lack of skill. Sorry about this :(
PS: I had to do a quick bug fix to stop getting stuck at level 2 (game breaking) I hope this is okay with you. (Done before the last hour)

Once you know how to play, the game is quite fun, although the giving the box to the customer can sometimes be annoying as the range to do so is really small.
PS: I'm glad I made you laugh :)
I liked how you could use a box to push other boxes towards the customers!
@rainysolar Haha, Nah the blue boxes only serve as an extra annoyance and filling up more space as well as more score :D
Thank you both so much :)
@hakro Yeah, I had no time to continue with sounds as I would have to learn how to make it :( Sorry for this
@kiotikid Yeah, Actually controller support sounds fun, maybe add a multiplayer feature! Great idea ill add this into the game later on as I plan to continue this after the compo :D Thank you so much for the feedback!
Pros:
- Nice graphics
- Fun at start
Cons:
- Becomes repetitive
- Some of the UI I still don't quite get it
One thing I thought it was weird is that when the level restarts the space left resets but the all boxes stays. Is that intended?
Cheers!
@ghen Thank you for your feedback! it means a lot!
@dangogamedev I agree, controls will be worked out post LD!
@erendelous Thank you :) All these comments are encouraging me to continue and work on the game. Thank you!
@virtu That is an amazing thing to hear! The repetitiveness is a major issue, and I agree. How would you think of making it less repetitive?
@nexusviper As I do not have One audio bone in my body, I didn't know where to start with audio. And didn't have the time to completely learn it!
@blinkenlights I want to get a Linux to build up, but I don't really understand the submission rules when it comes to adding other system builds after the deadline.
@nihilaleph Thank you very much, its been fun! The boxes don't seem to reset, not all of them anyway. they SHOULD look at my code. Its weird but I think the issue lies deeper than just in my box removal code. Thank you for your feedback though! I hope to fix all bugs and improve the controls and gameplay later on!
I think visuals in general could be improved. Visual cues would be a nice addition.
Other than that, it's quite cool and it's fun for a while, and pretty nice for a compo submission. Good job! :)
The graphics are simple and delitful, the contols are smooth and nice
Good luck🍀
your first entry for ludum dare is just fine! I had trouble to figuring out how to move the boxes, too like @hare-software. In your next game, try to focus not only on the gameplay but to improve the user experience. I've made that mistake in my third last entry for ludum dare.
Keep up working on your skills and i am sure it will turn into something great
The graphics are very solid and the mechanics work well, but I couldn't persuade myself to play the game very long. It felt too much like a chore to me. But overall, nice job!
Please do check out our game maybe you'll end up liking it.
There were some issues with picking up objects were I had to be fairly specific with my clicking. I wouldve personally prefered keyboard/joypad controls myself but i also understand the compo time is limited.
An excellent effort !!!
I enjoyed it a lot! Boxed has a simple yet not simplistic game design core, which is really important for a jam game, and it's a finished product with several levels (and increasing difficulty) to tackle, so the scope was chosen well. There are some things that could be improved, but you're aware of those yourself (controls being the most important part imo) and in my book making such a game in just 48 hours all by yourself is awesome. Well done, hope to see more from you in the future!
