Bribery by 360

Hi there!

Grouped up with friends for this Jam!

The event is super fun, yet very challenging.

My top advice is to let your brain gears rest and function more productively by having a regular sleep schedule.

Perhaps your life is currency.

We love participating in Ludum Dare, and we hope you will like our game.

A short rogue-like game in which.. You are a mouse and you need to find a way home. You're being chased by a cat (orange box) and priests of the chapel (white square). Switch between floors using staircase (brown rectangle)

It's pretty simple.

Arrow keys to move, space to interact. You lose a :heartpulse: for each floor down.

When you reach "Complete", you have finished the demo.

I took pleasure with the game :)
Running from the big squares and brain them with the environment is enjoyable.

But some details are pity :
- the door's color is to close to the enemy's
- visiting the shop cost you 2 HP ! It's better for the player to not visit it
- it's hard to understand that you have to go back by the same door in the shop room
- in some stages, the target door is too close from the entry, so the level design passed away
- I didn't understand the end : the game said me "completed" but enemies killed me 3 seconds later...

Congratulations despite of that details :)

The game severely suffers from lack of intuitiveness, and more than once I said "what just happened?". It's unclear what the shapes are meant to be, it's unclear that the shop takes away health maximum (at least, i think that's what it does), it's unclear when an enemy is near you (particularly the brown ones, because they blend in with the background and you can't see them in the dark), and even when I got to the room that said "Complete!" I wandered further into the room and was then hit by an enemy and killed. Why? I thought the game was complete?

Some more play testing was necesarry too. The first few doors to the next room don't take health away, even though they say they do, and I had a white enemy hit me through a wall.

I actually really love the graphical style, but I agree that the doors don't seem to do what they're supposed to (unless it's supposed to reduce your MAXIMUM HP?). I also got confused when I found the "Complete!" message and the game kept going. I also reached a door that apparently made my character vanish when I went through it? Is that the end of the game? The talk of a shop has me confused.

@ryusui Thanks for commenting. When you reach Complete, the game is finished. We've left the test room in just for fun.

Yeah you pay with health for taking a door, your life is currency.

We put placeholder art and just went on with making the game :)

Thank you for your feedback, all.

I felt very confused playing this game, the first time I didn't understand the door was a door even after I went over it, so I walked around the level trying to "Find the door". I also just read the comments and apparently there is a shop?! Maybe a couple of written or graphic queues would help with the intuitiveness of this game. Overall a fun idea, and I actually liked the end room where you just get mauled to death haha!

I enjoyed it. I played and managed to finish.
To improve it;

You can add more levels and make game take less space or put the camera away in some levels it was hard to see the door. Good luck!

I really love that music, graphics were basic but you seem to have opted out of graphics. Theme fits decently but nothing special was done with it. Over all decent game.

Complete!

I had fun playing. I liked the lighting effect, and thought the shop was nice surprise. Game was a little short, but well executed. Good entry!

For some reasons I couldn't see the textured backdrop as shown in the video. My instance of the game was really flat.

Nevertheless, once you detach yourself from graphical elements, it becomes a bit more fun.

I've noticed some bugs tho, like cattangles getting stuck in walls and similar. But that's ok. I can live with that.

The shop thingie was really confusing. It didn't say this was a shop and it refered to life as hearts even tho everything on my screen was a rectangle

But the music was good

Nice game mechanics. Fun to play. Not too heavy on the graphics side :) I agree that the axit doors shold not be the same colours as the enemy. Good job though.
