Timing of Ignatius by Danielk

[raw]
made by Danielk for LD 44 (JAM)

Timing of Ignatius is a singleplayer game made for the Ludum Dare 44 Game Jam.

You only have one minute to live, fortunately you can make other creatures drop time by shooting them in their face with your cool projectile superpower.

To gain more strength, speed and other improvements you can use our Awesome Shop to buy upgrades with your lifetime.

During the gameplay you run through different stages and levels where you encounter different enemies and boss monsters which are trying to stop you from reaching your goal.

This is our first game jam game ever. If you have any problems or constructive feedback we would kindly appreciate it!

Winning Conditions * Get to stage 48 * Have at least 5 minutes of lifetime

Controls * WASD to move * Mouse to aim * Left mouse button to shoot, you can hold your left mouse button down to shoot very fast

In order to advance to the next stage, you have to go through the black archway on the right side of the screen.

Play the game in fullscreen, otherwise the edges on the left and right side are cut off.

@edevjogos You can always go to the next stage by going through the opening (the black archway) on the right side of the screen.

An interesting idea. Having both the enemies and player have their lives on a timer really makes it, and the core mechanic really comes into its own when you reach the first boss. That's when it clicked for me why this mechanic worked. I had a lot of fun playing this game.

Good stuff :8ball:

The gameplay is a bit similar to my team's game! I think having multiple different types of enemies or attacks would make it more interesting, but the enemies and mechanics that are in place are fun and work smoothly. The audio feedback is a nice touch to make it clear when time is getting low.

Nice one. We had a similar mechanic in our game (health is tme and is used for upgrades). I must say, your implementation is clearer and makes more sense. I like you game. Played like 32 runs and was completely overpowered.

Nice gameplay, but there are some issues that make it rather hard.

First the exit doors aren't visible (i was playing the web version)
And secondly the movement gets stuck pretty often (multiple times during a level). Sometimes at the walls and sometimes when enemies push you in front of them.

Cool little game, congratulations! I was playing on a Microsoft surface laptop, with its strange 3:2 Screen format. Even on full screen, I had to search the gate to the next stage by blindly ramming into the right side of the screen repeatedly. But again, really nice game and great visualization of the remaining lifetime

Nice :) Your game was pretty fun and if fit the theme really well. I thought the graphics were bit basic and it wold have been nice to see some animations but they were consistent so I think they worked well overall. I think the sound effects were also quite good but I feel like the main background music loop was a bit too short so it got really repetitive really quickly. But overall I liked your game a lot, good job!

Well made game programmer-wise, it's admirable you got everything working right and have well-written instructions. The game mechanic feels quite nice. Programmer art is certainly sth to improve on and the music is quite repetitive, but otherwise good entry!

The game is pretty fun, but I felt like it was too easy? I found after 20 levels I already maxed out all of my stats and just started running past all the enemies just to get to the next room and killing the bosses in like 10 seconds. Good job for your first game jam!

I found the game hard, but hey, it is just me. I like the time mechanic on the enemies. Like a few others, I can't seed the left and right edge of the screen (so no archway)

Interesting and very complete game - good job! The use of the theme is well done and the game itself is relatively fun to play in all its simplicity. Only annoyance is that the edges of the map aren't visible even in full screen on a 5:4 monitor.

So I beat the game. I would recommend adding in some more variety to enemies/weapons/world. It got pretty repetitive at a point and I just started running through the levels without killing things because I had so much extra time.

Great job for making a complete game and actually fitting the theme (unlike so many other submissions). Some things can be improved, but everything's there. Cool game :)

Funny game! To difficult for me, I can't kill boss, but I really like gameplay and idea! I played web version and I missed 3 level because I tried to avoid contact with enemies, I just run to the left and touched the black archway, because I didn't see it :)
And I like hero's face! He is nice :)

That's pretty strange. Sometimes I have killed all the enemies but I can't get to next level and just wait for death because I cannot do anything else. Anyway loosing time when hit and looting time when I kill enemies is such a nice idea. Too bad I can't get to next levels :(

Hey, @ryunos there is a black archway on the right side of the screen you can always go through in order to advance to the next stage.

Also be sure to use fullscreen to have it display correctly on a 16:9 screen.

Circling around enemies ftw! Died on stage 7, so not very far, but basic idea is pretty engaging. Yeah, tried again and still can't beat that level 7, darnit. But I think the mechanics and balance are good.

The way you implemented the theme is really good :D And the powerups really improve the gameplay a lot!
However, it gets repetitive after a while... 48 levels is a lot ^^' Maybe with other monsters and different rooms?
Good job for making a complete game :D

Thank you @michaelsonbritt maybe consider the damage upgrade, hope it helps!

And @melaniee yes it is but you don't have to kill all the monsters to proceed, you can just run through all the rooms if you have enough time . And we considered making some more levels, monsters and even weapons but sadly it took us a little bit too long to get the mechanics right so we decided to make three levels, three types of enemies with different abilities and three bosses.

Thank you all for the great feedback and we are very happy that you enjoy our game that much! We would appreciate if you share our game with your friends and don't forget to vote to help us get to the top haha!

Very cool game, at first I was a bit iffy, but when I realised it had a shop it made everything a lot more interesting. :)
My only suggestion (other than more enemies, upgrades etc...) would be to make a custom cursor for in game. I noticed you had one in the main menu, but no in-game, and it would have helped me keep track of where my cursor went a lot easier.
Otherwise, well done, keep up the great work. :D

At first I don't know what to do after kill all enemies until I fullscreen the game. Just like my game WebGL edition, I don't know how to make it fit the resolution.
