RACE TO GAMERTOWN

Disclaimer

Our WebGL version currently is facing a game breaking bug, please use our Windows version instead (which is also buggy as hell...but you can at least play it.)

Undoubtedly THE best physics-based Super Monkey Ball-like racing game ever developed by a 6-person team for Ludum Dare 42 (that we know of).

FEATURES:

  • Absolutely NO annoying audio! (won't interrupt your chill lofi anime beats to relax/study to)
  • Eleven (11) completely unique enemy racers with TONS of personality!
  • INFINITE TRACKS through the MIND MELTING MAGIC of procedural generation!!!! (scientists in disbelief)
  • Knackesque growing mechanic!
  • Family Fun!!!

TESTIMONY:

  • "Oh god. Everything we've ever made is awful compared to this" Reggie and Hideous Kojima in unison after seeing RtGT being played for 30 milliseconds
  • "Silver ball is definitely going in smash." Shigeru Miyamoto, MineCon 1970
  • "Yeah I guess it's pretty cool. I have to go though, visitation hours are over" Vince from Slap Chop

WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?? GET TO GAMERTOWN!!!

This kinda felt like super monkey ball. I just wish it had sound and possibly controller support.

This is pretty rough. The vertical camera sensitivity is lower than the horizontal sensitivity for some reason, so the camera is hard to control. The ball goes careening away at the slightest push of a button, so the ball is hard to control, too. After the main menu, the mouse disappears, but it doesn't get locked to the window, and it doesn't reappear for me to be able to see what I'm doing when I try to click replay. And, when I click replay, the game just quits anyway.

Procedural generation is cool, but I would've liked to see the map be able to move in more than just a straight line.

Highest quality, do approve.

Obviously you made this in 72 hours, so it's not going to be super professional, but I found it a bit hard to play for a few reasons. There were a few weird glitches --- one time removing a platform completely randomly, causing me and all the red balls to fall to our death --- and the camera was weird in that it was inverted on X but not Y.

Nice job for the team --- **you made a game!** --- definitely continue to practice and enter jams and you'll be pros in no time.

Let me know when silver ball is confirmed for smash ultimate.

I think a royalty audio track would have done a lot for gameplay. It's hard to just play sitting in silence. Decent number of bugs, but the idea is there, and with a full set of configuration options (I had a hard time with the inverted mouse vertical) on top of bug fixes I think it would be fine!

Note: we ran into issues with WebGL as well and had to remove our main menu to get a build to work in browser. Are you guys using Unity 2018.2?

@phearbot hey thanks for the feedback! I recommend listening to this while playing https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U6W1v9VRtss. Yeah we did update to Unity 2018.2 right before the jam. Think its a bug introduced with the new version?

Except the WebGL build being broken XD I'll have to wait.

Well, I played a little and it was fun, but as stated above, there are some bugs. I also could not restart the game without closing the app and re-running.

All of this is ok though... it's a great start, and I think with a bit of work, this can be a great game. You have a decent core, just... get to work!
