HUBOTS by khofez

[raw]
made by khofez for LD 42 (JAM)

Don't let the area get filled with boxes! Control the bots to take the boxes and place them on the tracker before the 30 seconds timer ends! Each time it ends you get points for how much boxes you filled in!

  • The game is endless due to not having time to make an ending -

[Controls]

Left Mouse = Select one bot

Left Mouse + Dragging = Select one or multiple bots

Right Mouse = Move the bots to the point where you clicked

Right Mouse + Shift = Can keep selecting points on the area and they will stack up and the bots will go to each one of them until it ends

When clicking on the area with the Left Button and it is not overlapping any bot, it will deselect all bots that you had selected

[Instructions]

Choose points for the bots to walk to where they can get the boxes with them, if the bot touch them it will be placed on top of the bot, and take it with them to the green rectangles that are drawn on the floor. The more boxes you get there the more points you gain after the 30 seconds timer ends! Don't let the area get filled with boxes or the bots will run out of space to walk and take them there!

Nice little game ! I really liked the graphics and the way the bots and the boxes behave. A little more visual feedback to indicate which box is taken would be helpful. The sound design was quite refined too. In the end, I only wish there was some kind of tutorial at the start, to help you understand better how to do well through the game (split your bots, anticipate the boxes, ...)

Great graphics and gameplay, solid sound. It is really impressive how you managed to code this so quickly. I really liked the controls and visual effects.

The best graphics and the most polished game I have seen so far. Only the gameplay was little bit repetetive and missing some strategy elements (or maybe just I have missed it). It appears to me that the best strategy was basically to queue as many "Go somewhere", "Go home" commands as possible and only fix bot if it got stuck or something. But overall extremly solid entry.

Nice entry !
A little bit hard to control the bots but it's part of the challenge.
Maybe the game is little bit repetitive, and I don't understand when the game should be finished!

Cool game, the graphics work well. I seemed to end up with the bots getting stuck randomly on nothing and not being able to move, every so often.

Whow! So first of all, the controls are very intuitive but for some reason it takes me really long to get used to - Idk if you get that feedback from other people. However, once I get it, this becomes very satisfying. I dont understand why you want to control one bot, controlling 3 bots at a time isnt that the best strategy? Otherwise you will need some way to encourage players to control bots separately. Now I just wait a bit for the arena to become a bit filled, then I work with 3 bots at the same time and that cleans the boxes very fast. The visual and audio feedback on this game is awesome, I always know what Im doing. The left click on the ground to select all bots near by is a bit unnecesarry I think, I would just remove that because you have the ctrl+left click, which is symmetrical to ctrl + right click already. The left click on the ground also break the contact I have with any bot, so if I mistakenly left click on the ground, I will need to select the bot(s) again, which I find kinda like a punishment rather than a cool feature. There is a small problem with collision that sometimes the bots go very slowly as if they are getting on the way of the others. So thats all the comments I have, hope you find it useful. Really like the game and I wish the post jam version has a leader board xD

@nam-nguyen Thank you very much for your feedback! It will definetly have a post jam version and a leaderboard is a great idea! Thank you!

The graphics are very well done, it looks great! I felt controlling the three robots was very simple, yet it was difficult to keep up with the 3 robots. I think the problem was it was difficult to stay timely efficient as each robot completes their task. Usually in an RTS it takes more time for a unit to complete its task, and that allows the player time to give a task to each unit. In this case I ended up just selecting all 3 robots, walking them all around a little bit then walk them over the squares, which doesn't feel like good use of the 3 units.
But for wwhat it is, it is very well made.

Impressive graphics, full of nice effects! I think perhaps mechanics are a bit too simple as they are, I can definitely see this as a turn based strategy game about managing remaining space in the arena though. It reminds me of a programming game about robots that look like these.

Hey! As promised, I played the game off-stream. Here's what I feel like. The game's aesthetics seem really polished. Absolutely love the look of the robots and the board where the boxes show! The gameplay itself, unfortunately, is a bit more on the repetitive side. I also honestly didn't feel pressured about keeping up the pace. The 30 seconds didn't really seem like enough time to get stuck.

What I think that would be nice to see, is to have each robot able to take a different kind of load. That would, of course, require other types of things to fall in, other than differently sized cubes. Perhaps the weight of the carried object could influence the speed of the robot?

There's a bunch of ways this game can be improved. It was fun for what it is though, had a good time playing it. ;) Thank you for linking the game!

I had a ton of fun playing this one! The connection to the bots was awesome, and sound design was brilliant. The graphics are extremely polished, and I can't wait to see what you do with the concept!

Good graphics and clever idea for a game. I didn't feel like I could impact my situation enough to really enjoy the game. Perhaps the schmup idea of a super weapon could apply here to buy the player some time to get their bearings or get out of overwhelming situations.

Good job, the game is good looking and sounds are good too. The bots AI could be more worked, since thay don't seek for boxes when clicked, it a bot is in front of another, it doesn't find a path to get the box. Maybe I path finder could be implemented to handle this.

Great graphics and sounds! I've seen a few "cargo management" games this round, but I haven't played one yet where I got to play with multiple characters, so I really liked that. Good job!

Really like the graphics. The robots remind me of Wall-E. I think it was a little too easy to just select all the robots and spam click around to score points. but overall it was pretty fun.

Oh cool nice entry, the visuals were superb! I really enjoyed the effects work with all the visuals ongoing together with the background music. I wish I had some powerup or additional robots or currency to spend on to give the game that extra depth the further you go in the game. Overall very polished and nice atmosphere toghether with fresh game idea making a real nice entry. Well done!

Some of the robot noises got a little annoying, maybe as simple as different pitches would have helped. The game is fun and the graphics are nice. I never really felt like I ended up running out of any space, but overall it was good and the robots were efficient.

I liked the graphics but it felt like the concept needed a bit more fleshing out. At this stage I didn't really have fun because it was very repetitive, not very hard or stressful. The controls were also a bit awkward because to use bots to move you needed to left click select them , right click move them to the boxes, then again left click select and then right click move. These are to many commands for the main action of the game.

My inner Starcraft geek-self is very happy with this one! I very much like the art style and the concept. I really like the way you can assign "waypoints" to each robot by using shift+right click, though I admit I didn't learn how to do it very well in this game. Regardless, a fun concept to be able to plan ahead for your units in RTS games like this. A nice LD42 entry, very solid!!

Really top notch graphics and a great game feel. I found the gameplay a bit boring after a while.
