Statera - Achieving peace and balance through violence
After 3 days of hard and tedious work, I have finally finished my first ever entry for Ludum Dare.
The main objective of the game is to keep an ecosystem in equilibrium using GUN, LIGHTNING and METEOR.
So basically there is 3 species in the game which is the Slimes, Rabbits and the Rhinos. If one of the three species's became extinct then it's game over.
Due to the 3 day deadline, I was not able to create a background music and my own 3d assets for the game.
SOUND EFFECTS AND 3D ASSETS NOT CREATED BY ME.

My Thoughts: I actually liked the end result of this game and i am so proud that i have managed to create this game in just 3 days for around 6 hours a day.
What Went Right: - The game looks complete. This is something that I didn't expect when I had finished developing the game: - The creature's AI.
What Went Wrong: - There are few minor bugs regarding the creature's AI system. - If you are unlucky, the slime might not move and the rhinos are stuck on the tree, I have never encountered this problems. So far (probably) only one player have encountered this bugs.
What is not included(Due to lack of time): - A fourth species which looks like a human and can shoot nukes directly into you (adding some difficulty to the game) - An Evolution System. Every time you use a certain ability, the creatures get less damage from it over time. - No Music - No Story and Tutorial included in the game

I like the complexity generated by the simple actions and the peace through violence concept.

Despite the fact that you say you didn't do your own 3D models, the overall aesthetic seems to come together in a really nice way. The gun sound seems a bit over the top to me, but perhaps that intentional (and perhaps we'd hear that differently with background music).
Keep up the good work!
Also, I played it on my mac, and I had to go into the app folder and reset the permissions of the executable in order to run it. Not sure if that was just me or if others had that problem.
the little house(?) helped me keep the sense of where I was. I played your game on a Mac and I did hit the bug you mentioned where slimes are not moving around and one of the rhinos getting stuck at a tree. Not sure about the rhino, but the slime seems to practically stop moving when they reproduced the first time. They'll either stop, or move ever so slightly. I monitored it 4 times after I noticed it. Hope this helps.
Like you mentioned in the features not included due to time, this would have been more challenging if there were other factors distracting player, such as humans shooting at the player, forcing players to move around and loose track of whatever species they were monitoring. But great entry! :)
* Nice graphics
* Good effects
* Simple controls
* It might have been nice if you were able to zoom in and out (I don't know if it's in the game already, didn't figure out how to do it if it was)
* Sometimes the models glitch (they spin around rapidly)
* Holy hell that scared me when there were a lot of slimes and suddenly I hear a strange munching sound (very loud!) and **BAM!** The rabbits have taken over the world and I fail instantly
* For some reason while I played the game, none of the species didn't move at all (I failed pretty soon so I'm not sure if they start moving when the game goes on)
Too bad you didn't have any music. Anyways: this was a very interesting concept. Well done!
Also, it felt more like natural selection simulation than a game. maybe if the player had one species that he had to protect from others to achieve a certain goal, it would be better...
But overall, you did a decent job :)
Using space to restart the game AND to drop a bomb was a bad idea, because you lose immediately after you restart the game that way. :D
This was a super cool concept, but I feel that it needed a *little* more polish to really shine. Shooting things with the gun was super fun and gave great feedback, but the meteor and lightning I think could've been improved upon (in terms of feedback.) One other thing I think would help is the ability to zoom out the camera. I found that sometimes I simply couldn't find any of the species. Overall I'd say that this was a pretty solid entry that could've been improved upon with a little more time. Nice work.
Good job!
the rhinos looked really neat, and oh my god, slimes are just massive/
they grow up so fast :D
i did like the ligthening effects they were really neat.
great job man.
I like the idea, good job !
My best score is arround 200 seconds
-Having no more than two animals from each specie. Of course, after that amount of time, rhinos die.
-Only killing rabbits and rhinos, but after the first 100 seconds the planet goes crazy, and I started shooting everywhere praying for the randomness of life.
I had to search for another technique between those two. Finally I made a run of 422 seconds, and I'm quite happy.
-I did control the three species, trying to never have more than 25-30 slimes when they reproduce. Being cautious with the numbers of rhinos and rabbits, try to get less than a half rhinos comparing to the number of rabbits. This functioned for a while, until rabbits started to go suspiciously low, and suddenly the all died old or eaten in a matter of seconds.
I really enjoyed this game, it's fresh, original, ironic, peaceful and challenging. Congratulations. I don't really like the dragon statue, too magical in comparison with the rest of the game.
- I like the graphics were ever you hit you get a hole with nice effect (it may be grass,tree,or gouse )
- I actually dd not understood that why your game is over (i understood that when any of the character goes to zero you die )

Despite these minor issues I think this is a great entry and I hope you plan on continuing development.
- it is doomed to end up with dead rabbits, even though game starts slow it accelerates and you have no way to control it for longer time (because you can aim just for 1 animal at time).
- the mid and late game overwhelms player, which means you pretty much end up shortly after reaching few dozens of rhino population ~ basically everyone will have pretty much same score, not really depending on their skill
- lighting seems a bit messed up, although that might be due to WebGL version
- adding a concept of day vs. night behavior of animals could be really interesting and make this game better
All in all, congratulations on making the game. Overally I like it, and the entry is quite solid. Keep up the good work!

I liked the premise and had some thoughts on it (I'm hoping youtube got them back up, there were some issues converting the stream to a video.). I think my one thing was perhaps making the lightningbolt a little more powerful or giving it some range as it was hard to judge exactly where it was striking.

I've experimented in the past with evolution simulations in Unity (think Spore with procedural mutations and AI-powered creatures), and this reminded me of that, specifically, how I would occasionally interfere with the simulation and provide aid to a species I liked.
It got a bit ridiculously loud by the end, the audio could definitely use some tweaking.
In the game what I lack is a better sense of having control over what is happening. I had 3 takes on it and I am not sure on what should I be doing - sudden explosion of one species was highly unexpected and puzzling :)
Maybe the tutorial would help :)
Keep it up! :-)
A very good game with an original concept executed very well.
If you wouldn’t mind having a quick go of my entry and letting me know what you think I would be grateful. https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/38/space-pow-collins
I wish it didn't have to be in focus to run, because the first 100 seconds can be really dull, before things really start.
It'd be cool to see how far you could run with this concept.
