Escape Infection! by 11tomi12

[raw]
made by 11tomi12 for LD 40 (COMPO)

Hello everyone! This is my first Ludum Dare and also my first game for PC made in Unity.

About the game: You control a body cell, which has to avoid viruses that are trying to infect the cell. The goal is to survive as long as possible. Any infection(even if later taken away) will slow you down.

I embedded the theme "The more you have, the worse it is" in the way that the more viruses are on you, the worse it gets since you move slower.

Cool and simple, it would be nice if the player moved slightly faster to give a bit more control other that that nice little game.

Simple and addictive ! I really liked the strategy around the blue objects, trying to get the green bacteria off me :) !!

The simple mechanic proves very addictive. With different type of white blood cell and pathogens, I can envision this becoming a very successful mobile game! Great job!

Fun game, but very difficult given how slow you move! Liked how there was actually some strategy involved - you aren't collecting the antibodies; you're trying to position your self in such a way that the viruses would hit them!

Thanks! My best time is 194 seconds :P It gets pretty hard if you get infected too soon

Cool little game :) I like the controls. I think the game would benefit from a bit more variation the the graphics and sounds. All in all a job well done :)

Really simple and fun to play, you grasp the concept immediatly and you can start playing without thinking :)

The game isn't centered in my brother though and i had to scroll horizontally and vertically to get to it :s

Interesting concept !

Could use some more mechanics, maybe a few tweaks on the movement and maybe a little bit more consistency in the art style.

Good work !

I really enjoyed this game. I found the antibodies to be a fun mechanic to strategize around. Thanks for the time and effort you put into making this game for the community!

Thank you for your opinion guys!

I am thinking about making a mobile version of this game which means adding a joystick instead of mouse movement.

Any ideas or suggestions would really help me!

I really liked this! Nice and simple but fun to play! I especially liked how the antibody mechanic works! Good job!
For a mobile version you could use touch input on the first touch in place of mouse input? Just a suggestion!

To the point and good core mechanic. Lot's of room to expand on the core ideas if you wanted to.

I loved it! Very thematic and really addictive. The music kept me on the edge of my seat, and whilst my high score is nothing amazing (36.8) it was a lot of fun to play! Plus, SCIENCE! :D

This is a neat little game! I loved the pumping music that made it intense yet enjoyable to listen to for a long time. It was an addictive concept too!

One small change I think you could make to really improve on it would be to make it so when you reach one edge of the screen you appear on the other side. (At the moment you drift into an area you can't see). That way you'd have to keep an eye on whats happening on the other side as well whats in front of you, but there'd also be more options to get out of a 'sticky' situation as it were :D

All round a surprisingly solid and fun game! Good stuff. I hope you can also check out our little rpg at https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/40/$53149 :)

Pretty nice game! simple and addictive, makes you want to improve your highscore.
Would make for a good phone time killer.

I would maybe make it more obvious that the blue things take awway the infection, since for the first few rounds i was avoiding them.

Overall good game for the compo, congratz!

I like the concept behind this game, with some reworked controls and nice fx this could be a fun mobile game! Nice work!

Oooooh, honestly, at first glance it wasn't all that interesting, but it's actually pretty exciting. The speeds are balanced just on the edge of being able to get away, so that's quite tense. However the very linear speed everything moves at does make the game feel a lot less alive and exciting - there's a lack of rhythm, rise and fall. It's almost always the same pressure, and you're just hoping the helper cells (white blood cells I assume?) appear soon enough. There's a bit of a lack of agency here.

Also would have liked maybe a bit more straightforward player feedback about your "health" concept.

I think a better and more organic movement scheme with perhaps a skill to boost speed occasionally or something might make this really cool :)

I gave you highest on mood. That music sounds so intense! Great interesting concept, but seems like the gameplay needs more variety. Nevertheless, good job with your game, it's pretty well made and balanced !

Nice game. I wish there were more cell types, but I enjoyed the game nonetheless. Good job.

I also felt that the PC moved a little too slow. I think it would help the game if you increased the speed of the red blood cell, but also increased the number of viruses and stuff. It would balance out the speed. :)

Nice little game, I went off the edge of the screen and was expected it to wrap round but I just kept going!

It's pretty hard! The gameplay does seem a bit simple though.

Great concept and I like the mechanic for clearing the screen of viruses. I'd say that gameplay should be a little faster, mainly the players movement controls, to give you a few more options on how to avoid the incoming viruses.
I really like the theme though and the music is perfectly suited to it. Great work.

Cool - I made it to 50 seconds. The mechanics are very simple but effective. Good use of sound too to indicate when bacteria have been touched.

The antibodies that captured the virus and zoomed them off was an interesting take on these type of games. It definitely added another dimension of complexity and strategy. I do wish the player moved a little bit faster, even if that meant that the virus moved faster too for balance.

Mechanic is very interesting, simple but interesting.
Or kind of addictive. Addicted to frustration.

98 secs, great mechanic to add to the dodge em up genre. Instead of just relying on nonstop circular movement, the additional blockades let me change my route and strategically get hit by viruses so I could dump them later. It's rare to play this type of game and actually have thought to it vs just relying on survival instincts.

Interesting use of the theme!
The random spawning of new viruses and antibodies makes sure you don't just keep running and circles and keeps things interesting.
The only problem to me was that the controls feel a little too slow or not precise enough. I think optional keyboard controls would have helped. (Or maybe that was just due to me playing the web version?)

A super fun idea, made into a interesting and fun little game to play. My only real complain is that the gets too difficult too fast. Overall a good LD game.
