Soccer Fight by mic_matrix91
This is my first Ludum Dare Jam! Our team is composed by my girlfriend, who made the graphics, and me, the developer. Soccer fight is a simple game that combines SPORTS, PHYSICS AND ACTION, so it's made for thoose who like soccer and shooting games!
You are a soccer player who must survive from waves of enemies, who want to catch you. Avoid the enemies and use the soccer ball to kill them. Sometimes the two goals are activated: hit the goals in this moment to gain some extra bonus score and to generate a RAIN OF BALLS from the sky against the enemies!

Keys:
A/D: move left / right
Space: jump
Hold down mouse to charge the shoot ( when you have the ball ).. release the mouse to kick the ball.. use the mouse to aim.
Press Left Control while aiming to cancel the shoot.
Mouse Wheel to zoom in/out.
P: pause.

For now charging the shoot is useful to better score the goal and, most important, to make the enemies fly higher! ;)
I think as far as improvements, you could do waves of enemies, and then more movements for enemies to have more variety, but a very solid submission!

The game is already organized in progressive waves, but it's not visible: the enemy number and frequency raise little by little.. maybe I can also raise the enemy speed and strength.

I always love voice sound effects. Good job.
I really like the idea of hitting the goal for the ball storm. I think it's creative and made the game more fun.
All the controls work well. Simple enough, which is always the best.
Thank you for not having any form of health bar, I like that it's one hit kill
The death effect is funny, and wacky in a good way
**Improvements**
When you go near the edge, the camera spans and you see like a black/empty part of the game. I'd try to expand the stadium for that part for a more emmersive experience.
I don't understand the point of the power. It seem to hit the same every time I hit it and everyone died no matter how hard I hit it. Make you could remove it.
Make it so the enemies walk on the field that the goal layer is in front of their layer. It's weird seeing them walk through the net to enter the field.
I'd add some particle effect of the ball scoring or hitting the players

The mechanics were solid, the sound effects were hilarious and pinging people in low orbit with a well placed ball is satisfying AF, good job!
At the end i got into sniping, rofl, where you aim just right to get a headshot.. Anyways, great stuff! Keep it up <3
@honey thanks for the advice! I started Unity in a couple of months and I haven't learned yet well to tune all the physics parameters: setting an high bounciness, the ball was jumping too high and it was impossible to play.
Maybe tuning other parameters such as gravity scale, mass and friction, I could find a good balance! This is added to the refinement list!!

The sound design is superb, very rewarding!
The only thing I didn't get right is if you can make normal goals.

While simple on the sides, I love how the game is straight up uncluttered action. A fun, interesting mechanics, with a lot of cheering and funny death sounds. I cracked out laughing when my character went GRAHRAGH and was send flying off the screen when they finally got to me. And the falling basketballs? Priceless.
I played a few rounds. It felt alright. A bit weird that Control cancels the shot. It could have been right click or something, I dunno. But still, this game felt very good to play.

The dashes themselves were nice and swooshy, maybe just not my skillset. (I am horrible at bullet hells anyways)
Ideas for improvement:
- Start off with a smaller 'own goal', which slowly gets bigger when you hit more balls (easier for noobs like me to get into it)
- Higher speed, think it was a bit too slow
- Life points - give me at least some margin of error :smile:
- Powerups - life points, ball killers, bombs, speedups, shields for goal, etc

This guy sure can jump high though. Feels like he should really just quit soccer and become a basketball or volleyball player...or better yet, just do high jump and crush all the existing records. Jumping 4x your own body height is quite an impressive feat!
Btw, I got a high score of 30. I'm pretty bad at this. :laughing:

I studied Monogame for a while ( which is just code ) and I started Unity from a couple of months and for me was an awesome new world, with a nice visual interface and the management of all physics and other stuffs.
So I used this jam as an experiment for trying the nice features that this engine offers.
I decided to create a simple game( many of you said that there is not much to do :) ), but adding some hilarious features to make it more funny and interesting. So I'm really happy that many of you enjoyed it, despite the simplicity! Thank you very much!
...I jest. This is great fun! I feel like the power meter didn't work properly, or maybe I just wasn't holding the mouse down long enough? The gameplay gets a bit repetitive too, but the cheers of the crowd and the little "AAGH" sounds as the opponents go down just never got old. It's especially fun when you manage a trick shot, like firing a ball that goes over a player's head then bounces off the wall and hits him in the back. Very satisfying.
Made it to 61 before suffering my Tom & Jerry-esque demise. I really enjoyed this.
There were a few plays where the ball just dissapeared and I was like running away from a swarm of angry footballers, crying desperately.
Great job! This is a solid entry!
