Soccer Slasher by Supernapie
Obviously i don't know anything about soccer. I only heard 'soccer is war'.
Soccer Slasher is a sports hack 'n slash. You need to slay enemies by kicking a ball at them, before they can hit you.
How to play
You control your player with the cursor keys. Tip: you can walk diagonally by pressing two cursors keys at once.
It is built with Phaser so you can play it right here in your browser.
About
I only started sunday afternoon. So there was even less time. The graphics and sounds are very basic and i mainly focused on the programming. Getting down a fun gameloop was the main priority.
The ai logic for the enemies worked out pretty nicely. I wanted to use A-star pathfinding, but i was losing a lot of time getting the framework wired up. In the end i came up with a system that uses timers, where the enemies sometimes follow the player and other times they decide for themselves where to go. It produces a really nice swarming effect. Check out the source code to see what i mean.
This is my first submission for Ludum Dare. Building something in a very short time was very fun. Next time i join the jam, i will allocate more time for it during that weekend.

The choice of "Take me out to the ball game" as background noise is a bit odd. Usually that's with baseball.
I guess if I was going to make a suggestion, maybe make the ball's friction a little higher, or provide more balls on the field. It's a little awkward chasing after the ball after missing an enemy. I suppose that could work as part of the challenge, but it was a bit lengthy of a chase.
Good effort!
Thanks for the feedback.
The background noise just had a good mood. Where i came from we don't have a lot baseball stadiums, so i had no idea ;)
After the jam voting i will add more balls, because that's not a bug, but more content.
now about the game: I like the idea, it's definitely interesting but there are some things I would change:
- the background sound was a little too much in my opinion
- I don't like the decision to be able to go outside of the field, that doesn't make much sense if your game is kinda a soccer game
- also I found out a "cheat" because enemies die any time they hit the ball I can just wait behind the ball and wait until they run into it

I let the player go outside of the field (actually he wraps to the other side), because the ball can go outside of the field. The ball goes outside of the field, because otherwise the ball will simply get stuck in a corner. By the way if the enemies are really close and you go outside of the field they will still follow you.
@Crimson
Glad you like the camera shakes. I use them in almost every game.
Maybe there could be some sort of progression? e.g. if you win the first time, the next time the game is harder.
As for gameplay, I kinda expected that the ball can actually be kicked. It kinda felt more like playing around with a hockey puck.
Aside from that, controlling the ball around gave quite a challenge. Aiming it at enemies then trying to retrieve it while avoiding the enemies did make it feel like playing in the field. Interesting combo of genres.
@mic_matrix91 You are right about the map. Multiplayer will also go on the features list.
Nice game!
A great mix of sports and hack and slash, very well executed and honestly had a blast :yum:
Probably some kind of running option with shift would be pretty neat for abit of a boost - Instinctively went for it but it wasn't there
Other than that, a great game! Wish you the best on further development thanks for making it!
@PonchoGuy Thanks for the idea with the shift key ;)
