Bloop Bloop! by Meenners

cover.png

Keep Bloops from going extinct from an epidemic by killing those that are sick to prevent the endless epidemic from killing the Bloop population.

Click on sick Bloops to blow them up in a small explosion area of effect… this will cure those surrounding that Bloops. If a Bloops dies on its own… hell will break loose. It will explode and spread the joy of death among other Bloops. Striking sick Bloops will provide healing Combos and will give the player additional Bloops and score multipliers! Good luck!

I had a lot of fun clicking those little spheres. I was worried about being overwhelmed at first by all of them, but they were soon blooped away. Nice job!

My Bloops have died. While I am beside myself with sadness, I can't say I didn't enjoy them while I had them. Quite a lot of fun out of a very simple mechanic. Well presented with audio and injects a fair amount of personality through art to what would otherwise be just a table of jumping spheres.

I felt every Bloop's pain. I think I need to be alone now.

Well done on the game though, I rather enjoyed that!

The gameplay is very unclear at the beginning.

I like the 2d happy faces.
You could give the cursor permament area of effect to make ball manipulations much easier and fun.
Lemmings simulator, lol.

Nice game, Nice music, but I think you should have made the white balls sacrifice-able in order to give more risk to the player. (risk of accidentally clicking on the white balls)

@driagonv Thats a really good feedback! I may give that a shot! I thought about it and thought it may be a little too nutty! Thank you

Honestly, I found it to be a bit boring. I basically just click spammed on every non-white bloop and made it through the game. Maybe add some punishment for clicking on a healthy bloop?

Loved the 2d art that you had and I think adding that type of texture onto the spheres would've made it really cute. I think I would've liked to see a way to replenish the bloops as a lot of them would naturally fall off the platform on their own. At some point the game slows down since there weren't enough bloops for combos. Overall, it was a great entry that can be even better with a few more mechanics. Hope you continue working on it!

I enjoyed it, felt very calm. The white balls falling off for no reason was a bit frustrating though.

I kinda felt like a sadist when I realized that I could maximize my score by getting as many Bloops sick as possible. I can't even tell if this is working as intended or just a happy accident. But hey, it was flipping fun.

It's very hard to nail down exactly what this is. Some weird mix of strategy, puzzle, arcade and physics gameplay, which can be as calming as thrilling, with the explosions being somewhat zen in nature, respite them representing dozens of Bloops dying. The duality of Bloops, I'd say.

But hey, I got almost to a million in score, so it's all good, right? Right. Simple in functions, and with some very memetic sound effects. This game was a blast, and in more ways than one. Stirring towards the simplistic and even click-heavy at times, but it was still a bundle of joy for most of its duration.

I talk for [my team](discord.whalesandgames.com) when I say that this entry was special by reasons that are seemingly contradictory. Great job, and we hope to see more from your team later on! :whale:

Fun game! I think I wish that I could sacrifice the white balls that way I would have an incentive to not miss. Took a while to figure out the combo thing (read it on the page after playing first time), I think a combo counter would be the first thing I'd add to this so the play can know what they are doing is good without reading.

I really, really like the art. The hand drawn looks great.

@moski OMG! Those words! Very inspiring! Cant thank you enough! - As for the game, YES! It was completely intended! The strategy is to get a high score with a high population count, regardless how sick they are.. (a little dark LOL) I haven't been able to break 1,000,000 on my own game... so if anyone wants to try, let me know!

@phearbot @aj-jones @legavroche i hear yall! i'll look into it! thanks for the input!

Cool concept! Without reading the instructions and jumping right in I got a basic intuition for the game very quickly! I of course went back and read them after but I was impressed with how self explanatory the game was. I found that after a certain point there seemed to be too few bloops to make a combo which lead to the game very slowly ending. I suppose I could have just let a few die from disease to end it faster at that point! Good job!

@natethegreat yeah - i should work and think about the progress to a gameover. It is a slow death if you run out of combos to repopulate your bloops. Thanks for the feedback!

Interesting concept! It wasn't too difficult to figure out the mechanics although a quick tutorial would've been appreciated. Overall, good game!

Man, i thought my score was pretty good till i say the above comment :/

I think it is intentional to just let them get sick...

Pro-tip: tag your itch.io windows upload with the 'Windows' checkbox so app users can install it :) (I ended up installing the HTML5 version which almost killed my CPU !)

Very satisfying core gameplay loop! Had a lot of fun playing it

Hi there! It seems (based on your description) that **you've used 3rd party audio assets (music) in your game that you did not create yourself.**

This is perfectly fine, but **as stated in [the official Ludum Dare rules](https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/rules), you need to OPT-OUT of the Audio category due to this usage:**

> "You’re free to use 3rd party Artwork/Music/Audio assets, or assets you previously created, but we ask that you OPT-OUT of the respected voting categories (Graphics, Audio). You can opt-out of a voting category when you submit your game."

You can still modify this setting post-submission, so go ahead and do it now. I will be downvoting you in audio as an enforcement of this rule. If I'm mistaken, please reply to me so I can change my vote!

=====

That aside, this was simple but kind of fun. The combo bonus provides a weird dynamic where the best way to grow your population is actually to let clusters of them become sick first so you can heal them all at the same time. That's a bit unintuitive but I wouldn't say it is crazy, as several puzzle-type games employ the same sort of dynamic.

Good job!

Over 771,000 Bloops are now dead. They lived good lives but went out with an explosion and in a blaze of glory. Interesting take on the theme! Game is surprisingly enjoyable despite the gameplay consisting of spamming the left mouse button. An indicator showing when a Bloop is about to get sick would help it feel less random and give players a chance to think about their next action before detonating Bloops.
