Crystal Seeker by CapitanRetraso

[raw]
made by CapitanRetraso for LD 40 (COMPO)

Crystal Seeker is a platform game where your score increases by picking up Crystals, but be careful, these crystals increase the level's gravity which will make your character to jump less and less, making the game harder to beat.

But wait! Not everything is bad. You can use your powers to create a temporary platform underneath you. If you die, a permanent platform will be created at the position of your death to help you out.

~~(Death will obviously lower your score, doh!)~~

-------------- CONTROLS --------------

• Move with A and D

• Jump with SPACE

• Use RMB (right click) to create platforms

• If you die, respawn with R

• Press ENTER to restart the game

• Press ESC to close the game

---------------------------- Developer comments:

First of all, thanks for stopping by and giving it a shot

I didn't have much time to spend on this game due to school so I couldn't make all the levels, assets and game mechanics I originally planned to. However, I am very pleased with the final result and had a lot of fun creating it.

~~It's also quite obvious that I'm horrible at art but let's forget about those tiny details~~

Looking forward to play your games. Keep up the good work everybody!!

---------------------------- CHANGELOG

It looks like you were hoping the "death helps you" theme would win out :) fun game anyway and nice music.

Well I sucked at it. But it was great! I liked the mechanic of having your death create a platform for you. The design of the levels I saw was good because it had multiple paths you could take. Some of the collision detection could use some work (such as when you are right against a wall and try to jump). Other than that, pretty solid.

Cool mechanics! I didn't made it far from the beginning, but I like the concept. Nice work!

A very solid game indeed. The graphics aren't bad at all, audio is superb.

Very nice game, for me just a little bit more hard. But the concept is very good, maybe just to add some cool graphics and it will make a wonderful feeling.

Really funny to watch the large amounts of blood spill everywhere when you die. I enjoyed the platforming but felt the "recharge" on the platforms you create to be very slow. I found myself waiting for a long time to attempt my next jump.

Nice work tho :)

Very solid design, I would prefer if the charge time was faster, or at least exponential. Waiting for it to recharge was tedious.

I loved the artwork, especially the walking. It made me laugh in a good way. Some of today's games are so good they are bland. We need more funny walks!
