Hexoworld 9999 by Lugdumdare Team
It's a small world, and it's the only one you have. Embark on your ship and defend your home against a fall of asteroids.
How to play: - Defend your planet against asteroids ! - Use Left/Right arrow to move around your planet (Z/D for player 2). - Your spaceship shoots automatically. - If a block of your planet is touched by an asteroid, it is destroyed. - If a player is on a destroyed block, it is game over. - if the center of the planet is destroyed, it is game over. - Some asteroids drop bonus (depending on their color) when destroyed, collect them to get stronger ! - Some asteroids are more resistant than others (depending on their color), be careful ! - Destroy as much asteroids as possible to get the highest score !
Have fun !

Definitely cool and very polished. Enjoyed the music/sound and art.
Only had a few issues, the starting speed is just a tad too slow, can't reach asteroids before they hit if I was on the other side. couldn't easily tell the difference between the hardened rocks and the normal 1 hit rocks. mainly using the audio from hitting those harder rocks to tell the difference and some times it was like, if only I shot to the right a little more I would have hit that asteroid,
Overall I like it, well made. and those power ups made me feel great, zipping around the planet shooting 6 bullets, compared to the start.. much cooler.
Could do with more enemy types (unless I didn't reach them) :alien:
This is definitely the kind of game I'd keep on my PC after judging ends, so great job!
@morrilet : there is a know bug with audio when going in settings. It will be correct in a fix version of the game. Try check/uncheck sound before playing. There is actually sfx! ;)
Anyway there is one thing I don't like, the fact that you can't defend yourself if two asteroids come from two oposite directions at the same time. One of them at least will hit you no matter what you do.
Despite that, is a really good arcade game.
At the beginning of the game it's sometimes impossible to reach the other side of the planet in time, but the gameplay gets much more interesting as you collect power-ups. Another frustration is that some of the asteroid types are difficult to see against the background, until they start glowing. Maybe that was an intentional decision.
Overall, I think you did a good job with balancing the difficulty, and the level of polish is high for a game jam.
Anyways, very good design! The controls are very smooth. It's quite hard to aim in the beginning due to the hexagonal ground, but after you grab some powerups, it becames much easier.
Well done! Thanks a lot for sharing!
Sounds are good. Graphics are good enough. Overall could use some polish but really solid game!
The one complaint I have is the balance. It's quite hard at the beginning to shoot anything due to the large size of the planet and the movement speed of your turret moving. Getting hit a few times is actually beneficial because you can move around the planet more quickly. And then when you start getting power-ups it gets a ton easier very quickly. Maybe if you started on a smaller size planet, and then add a "leveling up" component where you add more layers to the planet but keep your power-ups? Or maybe some of the power-ups healed your planet or added terrain?
Overall, nicely done!
The game looks good and all art assets work well together and there are some neat effects, like the entry heating of the asteroids.
I would have liked to be able to have more control over my craft. Something simple like stop shooting to charge the shot would have added a lot to it.
The way it is now it feels to limited and it seems the most important factor in wining is spawn luck of the asteroids and not how you steer your craft.
There was no sound or music the first time I played (web version). Only after I refreshed the site I heard something. The intro music is very high quality and epic, while in game the music is much simpler and very different in style. The sound effects are relatively crude too. There is nothing wrong with the individual assets, but the mix is a bit weird. The lack of sound effects for the shooting seemed odd.
My Highscore: 37500
Come at me bros :men_wrestling:
Overall good job! :D
Also, @lugdumdare-team Thanks for the feedback you left on [Infectera](https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/38/infecteria) !
Hope you guys had fun making this game. Have an awesome day!

Only problem that I have is that my ship is to slow, and there are some asteroids that I can not possibly get.
It would be nice, if you also tried out our game! Here is a link: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/38/42-mikronikus
Feel free to leave some feedback.
Good job!
|+ The tilting of your aim based on the hexagonal boarder adds an easy to grasp but fun twist to your navigation/targeting of enemies.
|+ The powerups being able to stack (e.g. getting more than just 3 bullets spread) is great.
|+ Light hearted and fun visuals (love how the asteroids burn up).
|- The beginning inability to reach asteroids because of your speed/their quick decent/short distance before the planet.
|- The weaker/stronger asteroids being practically impossible to spot (didn't even know there was a visual indication until reading these comments-though my eyesight is bad at the moment).
A fun and accessible foundation that's already a joy to experience, great work!
What an awesome game! Really inventive mechanics that fit the theme well, and it was well balanced once you got past the initial learning curve. Could very well be my favorite game that I've played so far this LD. Fantastic work!
Great entry either way!
I also had problems with the music and other audio, it didn't play on my first go, and had to play again after coming back here. Good job on the visuals though! With some tweaks this could turn into a nice game. One idea I got was having a turret on the ground where the player could go into, and they would be able to shoot anywhere on that hemisphere, but not move while inside the turret.
Unfortunately I feel that by choosing a hexa-layout for the game it becomes quite tough to control, since the direction of the shots changes dramatically whenever the player turns a corner, which creates a lot of blind spots where you can't hit the incoming tiles. It may be tricky to pull off, but I think hexes with rounded corners might boost the fun significantly as that would close the blind spots and would have added some measure of strategy (will I stay near the spots that give me more control or keep moving along the edge to hit more asteroids) and skill (fine-tuning the sweet spot on the rounded corner that will hit the asteroid).
Overall you made a beautiful game (sight and sound) that could have benefited from some more tuning of its gameplay mechanics.
**Edit:** After reading some of the comments, I decided to give the game another try and I have to say that after collecting a few powerups, it gets really easy. I got to 280200 points just by holding Left down until some random asteroids managed to get past me.
