[raw]
made by Nitin Kumar for LD 42 (COMPO)

This was my first jam. Made this for Ludum Dare 42. A simple fast paced action game. Reach as far up as you can while dodging bullets, spikes and enemies. ( Please note : The game may not run smoothly on web browsers. I have added a downladable rar file for that purpose. There will be an option to download the game from itch.io page. Optimisation is something that i would be doing this week. Thank you for reading this and reviewing the game)

Fixes: 1.Changes in UI to restart and pause game from the keyboard. 2.The cube in the mainmenu can also move and jump properly now. 3.Added Music Option to choose tracks and control volume. 4.No changes gameplay-wise. 5.Added some screenshots SS2.PNG SS1.PNG ss6.PNG SS5.PNG

Fun little platformer game, really like the art style. Sometimes you die even when you hit the red blocks from the top, other than that, good work!

Well that game is simply fun! :) With some polishing it would be a great game just to play on mobile or something. Liked the SFX, music eventually got a bit repetitive. Good job overall!

Sooo frustrating and funny at the same time :D But you have to try and try again. Works fine in browser for me. Thumbs up

I like the clean style and overall feel of the game. Very arcade like. Good job!

The music could be a little bit longer before it loops as it gets a little bit annoying after a while. Still just having music in a compo game is a really good thing, so not a huge issue.

Simple, nice, and smooth, even in the browser!

Kudos for not requiring Windows (BTW, now that feedbackfriends has been shut down, it's hard to search games by platform - anyone knows some alternative?)

@gurbx @sdrrv @jackou I had a plan to add Bg music the last hour. But i forgot. I almost uploaded the game with someone else's music in it. Had to quickly get something out of Bosca and this is what i did frantically. It would have been better if i added a volume control.

@alexander-tan @syrapt0r Can i fix the collision issues and upload it again? Does it count as minor bug fix?

This game is pretty fun! I like challenging arcade games like this, and I like how this games difficulty builds up over time in a natural curve. It feels very responsive which is nice! I like your menu page too!

But the music is a bit too repetitive

Well Done! great little game and congratulation on your first LD. things I loved about it, the transition from lvl to lvl was very smooth and satisfying made the jump feel powerful, I love the leniency with collision on killing a enemy, nice variety of chances obstacles and enemy to change the game flow, the custom tail renderer was a nice touch. my only complain is the music, it got old very quickly. quality of life change would be to implement a restart by pressing R key for quick transition, since your using keys only for playing the moving from keyboard to mouse to restart is not a seamless transition from game to game. Over all you should be proud of the work accomplished.

Neat little game! The menu that lets you change your trail was cool. At the beginning I was able to just stay on one side of the screen and press A repeatedly and keep jumping up, but that gets more challenging as the spikes come.

Well done game. Controls are simple. The main menu is really nice. There are few quirks with collision detection. I was able to kill an enemy from below by moving upwards and I got killed at the same time I stomped on an enemy. I would like to see the game be further developed.

@suchista @starhacker @sam-estep @kappa-b @ezra-lafleur I will add a music volume control for now. Please notify me if changing the bg music is allowed. I will add something new then. I am working on developing it further. Some low poly models will do the trick.
Edit: Added music option and a little better UI navigation options.

Simple, nice and fun little platformer that is easy to get into and hard to stop playing. One small thing that I think would be nice to change is the transition between the floors. I think it is a bit of a hard cut, maybe try smoothing that bit out.

Would be interesting to see this game adjusted for mobiles because I think this is a perfect game for mobile.

Very addictive, well done. I love the interactive menu screen / death screen (you can still jump). Game mechanics are pretty simple, and also pretty solid. A strong difficulty curve is evident with the introduction of spikes, more enemies, and smaller platforms which is great! Graphics are very average but work well with the simplicity of the gameplay. Colours are used effectively so that the player knows what enemies are. Music isn't the best but good attempt anyways (better than nothing ) Overall, solid entry, good job!

Really liked the aesthetic on this one! It was really simple but I couldn't stop playing. I was really bad at it though - only got to level 16. A few suggestions though:

1) I know it's probably pretty random but would be nice if there were some guarantees that made the difficulty less varied across attempts. I had cases where I would get almost no squares for 6-7 levels at the beginning, and then another iterations where the first few levels were three squares each.

2) Probably just me - I like having clear goals and not just playing against high score - but I would be even more addicted to your games if you had more motivation for me to beat a certain (beatable but difficult) score. For example - if I knew something cool would happen at floor 20, I would probably have tried doing it a few more times until I'd get it :)

Anyway, it was super fun, thank you for submitting your game!

@matank Thank you for the feedback. How about a boss fight in a post jam version? That would give an objective and some closure maybe.

A really fun game. Coming from a dev to always likes to overcomplicate things (me), I can really appreciate a deceptively simple game. Just further proves that simpler is sometimes better. Great work!

I loved the fact that you can control the block in the starting screen as a sort of tutorial, nice touch! The games mechanics are simple but fun ! The level design is good and I also liked the music. This is a very nice and polished game and the fact that you can play it with only two buttons is very cool, maybe you should consider a mobile port. Nice job! My highscore was 27
