The concept was to smash the idea of a 'slice-of-life' walkabout like Animal Crossing with a jumpy, tense horror game. We hope you enjoy!

Can't say it was all too fun, since it seemed kinda fetch quest-y and going through places that I've already been for the most part. However I will say this is an interesting game, where it feels like the characters are just accidentally scary and they're your pals and such. I really liked how there was goofy ass music immediately after a jumpscare haha. I think that part of the game works REALLY well. Main sprites look good, but I think the fog might be a little too much, and the textures were alright.

Interesting game! I included it in my Ludum Dare 41 compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look. :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7llm9eTY4YI

The contrast works sooo well. Especially jump scares of "monsters" who turn out to be friendly. It's actually pretty relatable from an introvert perspective. The deep foggy silhouettes in the background provide a really good mood, and the 2D pixels are used really well to highlight characters and interesting things. Sounds and music are really engrossing and bring everything together. I'm surprised at how compelling it stayed instead of getting stale quickly.

Not a bad game! The mood was really nice, and the character design was really spot on! I feel however, the hole "jump-scare" thing sadly only work ones, and after you "get-it" so to speak (that the jump-ups has no effect/consequence), makes it more of a very easy adventure-game with a spooky mood. However, that in itself is not bad, but I think there could have been more tension to be gained adding a bit more scary-type moment, like a hunted-sequence or other.

Great job! Was more fun to play then i first thought it would be. Cheers

The walking around got a liiittle tedious, but generally I had a really good time with this. The jump scare followed by a quest setup really tickled me.

Great combination of genres and well executed. The characters are very well drawn and the sound effects fit the game perfectly. The game itself isn't very challenging, but that didn't make it any less fun. I for one likes the story and found it very humorous. One tiny suggestions though: please increase the walking speed slightly to make the quests feel less tedious.

A very fun and quirky entry :) The difference in quality between the pixel art and the environment was distracting, however, and the game might have been better suited to being completely 2D. Loved all the different monsters, though. They were all unique and funny and I want to be friends with all of them.
More relaxing than spooky but I suppose that's what you were going for so full points for mood hehe.

Man, I enjoyed the pixel art a lot! Really polished and professional. The game itself plays a bit slow. I know it's probably because of the dark atmosphere, but I wanted to explore faster. The creepy cat is my favourite design.

I liked the art, but I agree with the @fox-in-sox.

I left my rating of your game, if you can leave your feedback in our game, Witch's Escape.

I hope you continue with the project.

Hehe, neat. The game isn't too deep, but the environment was at least pretty interesting. The jump scare thing gets a bit old when it's the ONLY horror element, but yeah.

We also made a horror game, if you'd like to check it out!

It was a perfect slice of game experience for a rainy day in real life. :) Pixel art, writing, interface, and sound design were all incredibly good. Seems like a fun / interesting bunch of characters!

Yeah! I like it when LD entries have explorable environments, and although there's not too much to see here, swampy surroundings had lovely atmosphere. Sprite art was spectacular, but I think I would have preferred if at least characters were billboarded all the time? Also: ambient lights. Some will'o'wisps or creepy candles scattered about could have added a lot to the (already pretty immersing) mood.

The skeleton in the graveyard proceeded to scare the living poop out of me then make me laugh, 10/10 best first impression.

Wow, this game is a diamond! I LOVED IT!
I think you should make it bigger, to add more interactions and a very simple storyline.
The spoops were real, congratulations!

Haha gosh, I loved this. I especially loved the pixel art and humor. My cat decided to join in my suddenly jumping up and clawing at my chair while I was walking around feeling the suspense :joy: gave me a solid jump! Fantastic submission.
