Button mashing required!

Play with sound!

Background:

You're a very enthusiastic hot dog cook. And you're a pretty hungry guy. You've gotta make some food!

But there's one problem... Your arthritis has been acting up lately. Don't let it bring you down!

Instructions:

Cook some hotdogs! Throw 'em on the grill and eat them when they're ready. But don't let your Arthro-Meter(TM) fill up or it's game over!

Controls:

J -- throw a hotdog on the grill

K -- eat a hotdog from the grill (you'll always take the most cooked ones first!)

L -- Beat your arthritis into submission

OR you can use the mouse and click on the buttons and hotdogs

Tip: Uncooked hotdogs will bring down your score! And overcooked hotdogs don't change your score at all! Try to find the sweet spot!

I didn't get it at first, but once I did, it got very intense!

@isogash It's definitely a button masher!

Nice job! I think a mechanic to urge players to cook more hot dogs would help a lot here, since if you want to, you could just spend all day making 4 hot dogs at a time which can be boring. Something like customer orders would add a lot since you could get more orders the longer you play and if you miss orders your score would go down.

@theloneplant Yeah I was giving some thought to a mechanic for that very reason. I had been thinking about a scoreboard at the end to show how you stack up against everyone else. Ultimately there was no time to implement it in a way I would have been happy with.

Very funnny, great voiceovers! Great music as well. Took me a while to figure out when to eat the hotdogs, wasn't obvious to me when they were overcooked. Had fun when I figured it out though!

Game is short and fun. Audio is 5/5. "arrrgh too cold!"

Very simple, but I think that's one of this game's key strengths. Though the gameplay was pretty light, everything was polished to the point where it was really fun to play! I loved the voice work especially.

The biggest change I'd make is to use a different button to start the game. In a browser, the space bar scrolls the window down in addition to starting the game. Not a big issue, just mildly annoying.

@grentacular Oof I had no idea. For me if I'm focused on the game it will start the game without scrolling the browser. Thanks for the heads up! What browser are you using?

Dude this game is sweet! I really like how short and to the point it is, while being really funny and fun to play. I dig the multi-tasking button mashing concept too, it took me a few plays to get the hang of it! It's totally a perfect jam game, well done!

This should go straight on the tablets. You would drown in hotdogs... I mean money.

It has everything a small silly game should have. I envy your sounds :)

And yes, whatever it may sound: we should definitely do some Hotdog Jam together ;)

Really love the art and audio. It really brings the game together. A bit simple but it had my hand burning a bit after a while which really fit the theme of your game. Nice work!

Wow, nice game! It really feels like a complete product. The art, music and gameplay really fit together. It is really hard to remember which button to press, which somehow fits the game. The best thing are the voiceovers, very funny!

Well done!

I had a bit of fun with this. Seemed unfortunately the arthritis was just another thing to remember to click, seemeed there was no punishment for spamming the arthritis fix button. However, still, a hod dog whackamole, how can you go wrong! Keep up the good work, good compo entry! <3

Funny, well made game! I included it in my Ludum Dare 40 compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look. :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u0hdEq4T8dE

The audio and graphics were great, but I didn't really get the gameplay. There didn't seem to be any kind of restriction on mashing any of the keys.
