I like the aesthetic. The blocky level design reminds me of Wolfenstein 3D, and the shadows are a nice touch. Filling out the map and thwacking skeletons is just satisfying. The idea of having to take a sacrifice each level is neat on paper, but in practise, it doesn't affect the game too much.

The music is appropriately lo-fi, but it works. The sound effects could use some work, though; the step sound effect in particular is quite grating, especially since you'll be hearing it a _lot_.

Nice game but I found that never sacrificing anything and slaughtering the extra monsters to gain XP is quite efficient. Very well functionning and polished game for a LD, Great work !

Really liked how you could choose your character. Died pretty quick the first time because I panicked when I saw a skeleton and mashed the keyboard trying to attack it. Once I figured out I just had to push into them it got easier. I got to level 6. How many floors are there? Cool idea. Only issue for me is the movement and the sound of it. I had to turn my speakers down because by the second floor it was sending me a little batty lol. Maybe decrease the level of the sound for the movement. Also the having to click to move got irritating travelling long distances. You could mayeb allow holding the button down but to attack you have to tap it?
Anyway there is my novel lol. It was a good idea though. I like the fact you lose something each floor. Well done :)

I don't know if I saw everything,
but I found the gameplay a lil lacking.
I just kinda played it as a runner.

Tho the estetic is superb! :3
How it looks, how you are presented to the game.
Beautiful.

Only the foot steps are ear bleeding xD

Doing dungeon crawl like this one in 48 hours is really hard. Nice work! After leaving this comment I gonna play another run.

Great Submission from a coding point of view. Sound and art is great for the game and exploring the level was fun. Only thing is that the game is too easy with no real reason to make any sacrifices. I played until level 10, never made a sacrifice, and never went below half health. Really good submission just needs some re-balancing.

Thanks for your feedback, everyone! I've reduced the volume of the footsteps, turns out implementing SFX at 1AM with your volume down low isn't such a great idea :sweat_smile:

The game looks great. As previous people have said I think the stepping sound and the moving by rapidly pressing keys is a tad annoying. I wish you could hold the key. Ah well all around I enjoyed it!

**The Good:**
The gameplay is solid and easy to understand - I had no trouble understanding how to play and it was fun. Most of the artwork looks polished and clean. The minimap is a blessing.

**Needs work:**
The stepping sound effect is relatively loud and gets annoying very quickly. The levels are way too large for the movement system you have in place, there are rooms that serve no purpose. The health and XP HUD elements don't really fit with the rest of the artwork.

Overall, very impressive compo submission. It is very clear that lots of work and polish went into this.

Nice job, artwork looks great and gameplay is good. Audio could use a bit of work, but otherwise great submission

Hey! I gotta hand it to you, I am really impressed with what you've managed to achieve on these 48 hours of the compo! A roguelite in such short time? Holy cow! I got to floor 6 and level 7 or something.

What I liked the most:
- The general atmosphere you've created with the audio, writing and graphics;
- Its a roguelite! In 48h! It works just as I'd expect, but with 3d graphics! Lovely!
- The writing was pretty cool ;)

What could improve:
- I didn't see any other enemies besides the skeleton, don't know if I went far enough, but it felt like if there were other enemies, I would've seen them by then;
- The whole sacrificing thing barely affected my gameplay. I chose to not sacrifice all the time and there was no punishment (I understand that some enemies spawned or something, but they never were a threat to me);

That's it, huge congrats for you!

Cheers

Good game! Especially I like the background music, it creates the right atmosphere. I also love the light effects of the potions. Well done!

Great game, you could have added so you don´t stand sideways when going down. Very good even if its done in 48h, could have added different enemys. Nice job.

Really cool game! It looks like some kinda prototype for something bigger and better) I am not really sure if it catches the theme, but it is definitely quite fun (by the way, i reached the 4th level:))

Really nice game! One of my favorites so far. I just found really annoying that you have to press the arrow keys each step. Great Work though.

I like your theme. The game looks and plays well, only thing that was bit tedious is running around the long floor by tapping all the time. I'm also not sure if refusing sacrifice between floors actually did anything.

YES! You seem to get the theme a little more than most. Sacrifice should not be something you're making a strategic decision about, so not telling the player exactly what will happen if they "reject" is great. I would've liked even more variation on that though. The visuals were nostalgic and consistent. Also I liked how the music had an old Yamaha Synth sound to it, pretty cool.

Hey there! I've seen a post from you on twitter, nice that I've found your entry. The game is very enjoyable. I think I found a bug. It happened when I had the option to go down one floor extra ![bug.png](///raw/0b3/21/z/1df7c.png)

Didn't see any reasons to sacrifice anything got bored after reaching lvl 10. Needs save system for a longer playthrough. Also needs some more variation. When you kill everything with 1 hit and have enough potions lying around there is nothing that can stop you if you know the way to approach enemies without being hit. Addictive game hope you will develop it further there is some potential but that sacrifice part wasn't really speaking through gameplay I took it few times and after that always rejecting and from my point of view there weren't any consequences.

Forgot to add that soundtrack hook me up instantly great work.

Nice Game! overall the game was pretty cool. However, the sacrifice wasn't very impactful and after a bit, the game became a bit boring with no variety in abilities and enemies. Nice work though

There are a lot of great features added in such a short time. I like the mix of 2D and 3D, line of sight, the dungeons and lighting, all really well executed. Even little touches like entering your name and selecting your character sprite. Great entry!

@rhewid Interesting! Could you still play after this happened or was it game breaking? I think I know what caused it. Thanks for playing :smile:

Making a roguelike for the compo is always commendable! Overall, very good work.

The levels were a bit too large and empty though, especially since in LD fast bite-size experiences tend to work the best. I also didn't encounter any other sacrifices than the go down a level.

Man, this game is addicting. The mood is great. It gets monotonic after a while, but it's good!

I enjoyed your entry! You were right in the feedback you left me, especially at the title menu our games are basically the same haha.

This game was nicely polished, the notifications worked well, blocky animations were nice, and sounds were good. The biggest things I would suggest if you decide to work on it more are different enemy types and more impact from the sacrifices. Having the minimap really helps tho!

Overall I think this was a very nice entry, good job!

Nice game! Quite simple gameplay but I like the graphics and whole atmosphere. It's impressive how you managed to implement Procedural generation in your game in 2 days only!

Like others, I'd say I couldn't really feel the tension of not sacrificing. Maybe you should increase the punishment we get for that. Other than that, great entry!
