Addiction: Your Life is Currency by Krapht

[raw]
made by Krapht for LD 44 (JAM)

Header.png Existence is draining. Many turn to addictions to help themselves cope. You turned to alcohol, and you have spent a small fortune doing it. Can you learn to deal with your Demons and restore your savings?

When your life is running low you can spend your coins on alcohol to restore yourself to full health. Careful though because every time you drink you will spend every dollar you have. Prove you can kick the addiction by saving up 5 coins. Be warned, life outside your home is draining. It takes a lot out of you just to leave your house.

@mimusangel do you think you could get the error to repeat itself?

My character disappeared of the screen too, I think it's just because you didn't clamp the player within the boundaries of the game so you can just walk off on the top or bottom. The movement also feels a bit unresponsive, mainly because you keep moving for a bit after letting go of the keys and the character is quite slow. The game itself is pretty fun though.

the idea of slaying demons is good but there are missing animations! GJ!

Nice little game! I think it would be better with animations but it's fine!

@pseudobytes It seems I executed that poorly. My intent in letting the player leave the camera space was to try and recreate how easily it is to feel/get lost or off track when trying to break an addiction. I wanted to force the player to keep themselves where they needed. Sadly more often then not players feel it was a glitch in the game so clearly I have done something wrong. I had at one point in development where the player took massive damage if they went outside the screen space but felt it was overly punishing and would be difficult to understand at what point you take damage vs being safe.

@rocketraccoons @nitropictures Thanks! Lack of animation is purely my lack of time management. That and sound. Had I managed my time better I would have gotten those in.

It's fun where the bullets came out
I like how the game keep to be difficult even you choose to spent money to restore the life

What you can improve:
* adding sounds ^^
* add pattern for enemys
* vary environment, not always a corridor

Nice enrty, but would be better if you bind the camera to a character or simply restrict go outside the camera view once entered the "dungeon", not a big deal at all. Well done game for a short period of time!

If it had a cool sound, maybe it would be interesting.

Nice theme, with a good music you could enhance the drama of your game context.
