Cat Your Life on It by khofez

[raw]
made by khofez for LD 44 (JAM)

This is a game about two cats betting their lifes on a game that will cost their lifes

How to play: (This can be played as 1 versus 1 player)

  • Push the slider to the right on each cat`s turn and very carefully waits for the gun to shoot, once it shoots you can drag it to the left again, if you keep on the right it you will keep shooting your cat

  • There are 30 bullets, 14 lethal that will kill the cat and 16 fake that will not kill the cat

  • The one who loses is the first cat to die, it is more of a competition to see which is the luckiest cat, in this case the cat that will take less lethal bullets

Nice graphics and presentation. I didn't understand very well how the game works, what the lose and win condition, whether it is totally in luck or the position that we put the slider influences into something.

I don't understand whether it's possible to 'win' the game, the skeleton just seems to keep firing until you're dead... Having said that the graphics are awesome and general presentation is very polished.

I... don't think that's how Russian Roulette works! Death is a dick!

Lol great game.

Great graphics, nice idea, but definitely has some bugs that need to be fixed (like that the cats don't always loose lives when they are shot). Other than that, nice job!

Wow, good graphics and sounds! Sometimes when the gun starts firing the slider dissapears so I kept firing my cat without knowing hot to stop it. However I loved the 3d art, animations and the camera. Good job.

@gabrielgamedev , @machinescreen , @alexfsmirnov , maybe we should explain more the rules, but it's a simple "single client multiplayer couch game" ... each opponent chose a cat (left one or right one) and then pull the trigger to start firing by luck, without precision or control over the machine gun....

there are 30 bullets, however, 14 lethal and 16 fake that do not remove lives from your cat, the first cat to dies loses the game while other wins ...

the game aims on the aesthetics of a gambling game and the anxiety of trying to handle a gruesome trigger to control the shooting flow ...

@eliphas Setting the trigger to the right may fire anytime (randomly) the machinegun and to stop it you should set the trigger to the left ...

Guys ... thanks!!! thanks for taking your time and feedback!!!

Very nice graphics! Although I launched the game from the itchio page where there isn't any explanation about how it's meant to be played (two players etc.), so in the game I just pulled the trigger for the two cats so I was like "Am I doing this right?" (also at the beginning I didn't understand why it's a "slider" and not just a button to pull the trigger, and then I understood the "trigger representation" and feeling and I found it pretty smart)
When I went to the ludum page and read the comments and your explanation, all became clear :)

So maybe it would really really improve the player experience if you explain how you play the game (as you said in the comment) in the game description both in ludum and itchio pages. Otherwise, players may be lost and doesn't look at your game the way you wanted to, and that would be very unfortunate

Anyway, I love the mood and the graphics, it works very well :)
And poor cats :'(

I really like the mood, but I'm not sure if you have a specific set of rule in order to make it gamey, it's more an experience than an actual playable game with win condition and rules, perhaps you could even add simple things like a slider that increases and decreases automatically and the player has to press space when it's hovering over the middle of the slider, this would be enough to make it feel more like a game.

Awesome job guys

Looks lovely, and it's a neat game :) I think you explained quite well that it's supposed to be played 2-player, and that not every shot is supposed to take a life off, don't worry! Gets big points for theme, humour and mood from me! The gameplay doesn't have much to it, it's more sort of a "graphic concept" with a bit of gameplay for good measure :)

Graphically, this looks really nice and the take on theme is unique, but I don't really see the "game" aspect of this execution, since there doesn't seem to be an end goal. Fun idea, but a bit more gameplay would be nice!

Okay, i haven't really figured out how to play the game. Although i read the explanations in the comment section. Feels more or less totally random. But i love the graphics and the music :D

The humor is amazing. Also I found that you can shoot in short sessions instead of killing cat by cat. And then the whole idea make sense. Which cat is more lucky wins.

Great job. Amazing polished game.

At first I emptied the 30 bullets on the first cat ! But then I figured out how to play the game by reading the comments. May be more explanations on the way the trigger operates would help.

Very nice graphics and mood !

The graphics on this are great, love the art style. Took a bit of figuring out but I like the idea, could just use a bit more of a game element to it, like a win state or something. Still, enjoyed it, good work!

The graphics are really beautiful. I also think the concept works as a browser game like this.

A simple game that is both demented and fun. The low poly art looks great.

I like how I haven't played a game like this before. It's an interesting idea, but I don't see much fun in a game that doesn't have much interaction to play with. Decent game. Would definitely be fun to play with someone else.

I found the best way to play wasn't to slowly drag to the right but to quickly go 100% to the right and then quickly back to the left. Was able to get a single bullet every time. I'm not a huge fan of luck based games but I like that some semblance of skill was added.

Nice art! Top marks for theme and humor as well but it's not my kind of game to play and have fun with :P

Still, I believe it was a good decision going for a small and polished game since you're a small team. Well done!

Great graphics and audio. I'd like that intro text to be fast-forwardable. ~~Is there a strategy to the game, or just straight luck?~~ On first playthrough I felt like I didn't have much agency.

On second playthrough, I see that it's a speed game, how fast you can pull and push the bar.

Graphics are great, took me quite a while to understand how to play it, wish i had friend to play with, seems quite a fun experience as a versus game.
