Awesome job on the command line game though! Difficult task to tackle
EDIT - Several days later: After reading some of the comments I finally understand what is going on a bit more. I needed to stop looking at it like a puzzle game and more like a narrative game. At least that is the only thing that made a little bit of sense. I still can't say I really get it. Will be rejiggering my score.
I basically interpreted this game as sort of an internal dialogue within the mind of someone named J. M. S. I liked the feedback bar on the top, that kind of fluctuation with the ~ symbols.
Very cool how you decided to take a path less traveled. It helps pave the way for others. I enjoyed and found it inspiring. Thanks.
I like the little animations you did and I applaud you for trying something very different. I just wish I knew what to do.
Impressive what you have done with so limited resources, but it needs some explanations.
but then I looked a bit at the source (because I love c++ and btw it looks pretty good!)
And in the code the "table" was referred to as "bed" and "visitors" rather than "friends" or something of sorts. Really took me by surprise O-o!
So I THINK it's about a patient that is perhaps about to die and the meter is how well he feels.
"A run is between 5 to 10 days." is an interesting evidence to the concept.
I don't know if it's possible to stay alive after this time (btw pretty depressive stuff is in the nerrative).
I'm still not 100% sure about the theory but that's what I could gather - for example some letters can be around the bed twice, so it kind of works out with names but then who am I calling when I choose that letter?
Kinda tricky, honestly it gets pretty interperative at that point. Don't know if it's what the author meant but that's how abstract this thing gets.
All that is guranteed is that I got A - Z options and that every time I "consume" one option.
Didn't notice *direct* influence on mood so I can't say it's feelings or thoughts or something like that.
Also "Ask them your questions" sounds like a hint of sorts to go this direction. That's why I went with people.
Well made in terms of mood and suspense =]
Otherwise, the game is a very interesting experience (I think it's about the last days of a person called “M”, probably in a hospital bed?) and the fact you chose the Windows console as a game environment (with graphics!) is very interesing! Excited to see some other games like this from you :)
I didn't get what I'm doing until read g_o's comment above.
Anyway it's an unique approach to an unique theme.
