Mr. Mewsifer's Malevolent Market by Faelim

[raw]
made by Faelim for LD 44 (JAM)

Mr. Mewsifer runs a business selling foods of all types (and colors), but his expectations for employees are... strict. Ensure that the customers get what they want, or else you may find yourself separated from your soul. At this Malevolent Market, Mr. Mewsifer accepts cash or... YOUR SOUL!

The premise of the game is fairly simple -- customers will come in and provide a hint at a single item that they're looking for. As time goes on, they'll give additional hints to help narrow it down. There's no penalty for handing them incorrect items, so feel free to rush around and guess!

Didn't get around to making a win/fail state, so it has an interim credits scene.

I really enjoy this one; I know you're adding a tutorial later, but it did take me a bit to figure out the rules. But past that, there aren't many flaws as is, and the presentation overshadows any that are there

It was pretty polished! Nicely done. I agree, it took a bit to figure out the game but it was a great time

I like the style and the playfulness and lightheartedness, controls are pretty intuitive. I think I was meant to grab something that the thought bubbles were hinting at? Honestly I couldn't work out how the pictures related to the items but managed to please customers with the colour splotch when it came up as a last resort and got to an end screen with the cats which was cute. Anyway well done for creating a complete game for the compo! -RS

Thanks for the feedback everyone -- added some notes to the page to hopefully provide more instructions. It was a self-imposed goal going into it to make it as textless as possible, so didn't get around to placing the tutorial in the game itself.

I love all the art, especially the cat's shirt that doesn't fit over his belly haha. Gameplay was a little confusing at first but its seems quite polished game.

Absolutely adorable! The graphics are just unbelievably cute and the audio is great too. I like the simple nature of the puzzle game and worked out how to play really quickly. My only little critiques are sometimes it's hard to see what category an item should fit into (for instance a sort of oval thing with little pokey markings, is it a pickle or some sort of fruit or maybe a breadloaf?) and the game ended even after I had found all the customers items within 2 hints.
Really fun and lovely game.

I liked it, too bad it's kind of short and sometimes hints are difficult to guess (for exemple the round+square one is a little difficult to guess)

Fun lil game, got the general gist of the mechanics after a while, but was still a bit mystified.
The stress-increase over time works really well with the music and soundeffects :P

So short, but oh so very good! Brilliant! I would love to see a longer post-jam version if you made it.
