The City Of Forgotten Toys by dk5000p
The City of Forgotten Toys is a platformer where you collect discarded toys and put them in the donation box. Toys that are discarded in the real world end up in the City of Forgotten Toys, by donating the toys you get them back to the real world. The City is run by a corrupt Mayor, whose main goal is to have the population grow, in order to increase his power and wealth.
Controls:
Left and Right Arrows or A and D to move left and right.
Space to Jump.
Goal:
Collect the toys by colliding with them and placing them in the box. Avoid the tennis balls being shot at you. If you are lucky maybe you will be able to confront the Mayor.

Good on you for getting something done, but man not an enjoyable experience.
As mentioned above, the spawning became a bit concentrated over time, so it became less about navigating and more about dodging. The mayor level was also interesting. I didn't really hear the voiced directions at the beginning, but in the end I was still able to beat it.
It's satisfying to be able to beat the game, so thanks for sharing it. The game world was interesting too, so it was good to be able to play around in it.
gameplay at 1:40 - https://www.twitch.tv/videos/297336881
Had a great laugh, awesome entry. My suggestion would be to speed things up a little bit, make gravity a little higher and make the tennis balls fly a little faster.
I'm glad I found this. Made my day.
I have rated your game, but all of my feedback was captured in the stream.

Try our game too, maybe you'll like it)
I tried again, but I have collected everything and still run out of time, only 17 toys. Are you sure I can always collect 20 toys in time or it depends on whether the generator would generate enough toys?
Here is a link to your spot on my stream:

I really liked the weirdness and oddness of the game.
Please do check our game and leave us some feedback.
Control is too floaty. Also, the colliders of the character did not align properly. You can get stuck at the edge of a platform.
The toys only spawn near the donation box which is strange. The boss fight is too easy to exploit. It feels like fighting Bowser Jr. without it hiding in the shell once.
I loved the all acapella audio.
Concept for game play is good, and I love that the more toys you're carrying, the slower you move. Adding some visual indicators for what happens when you get hit could help improve a lot. It seems that you lose all the toys you've picked up when hit, but it doesn't 'feel' like that, if that makes sense. There were a couple of places on the ground that you clip against and can't smoothly move left or right because of the uneven ground, not sure if this was a design choice or not, but felt i needed to mention it.
Fun entry to play. Here is the clip from the stream where we did the play through

- Killer soundtrack
- Amazing story
- Very fun to play
Cons:
- Wasn't really sure what to do
- Kinda short game
Overall, nice entry!
EDIT:
Okay, sorry for the confusion. Interesting take on a platformer. The audio was a little bit on the annoying side, to be perfectly honest, but it was still kind of humorous. Nice work.
Good Job !
Anyway, congrats on complete and submit your game on time.
as @agar3s said, a health bar would be very great !
Maybe you should have done some sound when put toys in the pack :)
In any case, nice concept, great job !!
Interesting graphics, what I've found during my time doing Ludum Dare is that limitations improve things by a surprising amount!
- Use smaller assets (16x16 pixels or maybe 32x32)
- Colour palette of maybe 8 or so colours
- Consistent style and limited pixel scaling
Those are the rules I live by anyway, and my average art score throughout all my jams/compos is around 4 stars, so I guess it works :stuck_out_tongue:
The mood and humour were superb, I hope you learnt a lot on your first LD, I sure did on mine :grinning: great job!
By the way please feel free to leave us some feedbacks on our game!
One specific thing I would like to see is a checkpoint of sorts for when you reach the mayor stage. The first time I got there, I died fairly quickly and was slightly annoyed that I had to play through the first part all over again to reach the boss.
One big thing that I think you should improve on is how the player feels to control. In most 2D platformers, the player falls towards the ground much faster than they would in the real world; this leads to a much tighter feeling game and lets the player feel like they are more in control of the action.
Not gonna lie though, I am a fan of the cheap 2D cartoony graphics, that is mostly what my games consist of :)
Congratulations on your first LD entry!!!

The gameplay is clear tho what makes the mayor show up, and what that even means isint. The controls are solid and the audio....God the audio, is such a wonderfull masterpiece of memes that frankly, it makes the the first game I rate 5/5 in humor. Its overall a solid simple platformer with some bugs (I do a crazy high jump sometimes out of the blue) and I still dont know what those yellow things are (I think toys, i collected them regardless) and there seems to be no reason to avoid the tenis balls as there is really no visual feedback, no health bar and time didnt go down for me.
Still overall good work on this Comp game.
Scary Hand/10 would pararaparara/woosh! again.
