Power Surge by Some Nerd

made by Some Nerd for LD 39 (JAM)

Avoid thieves and collect batteries to restore the laboratory's power while your light slowly fades. power surge.png power surge 2.png

NOTE______________________________ You can kill the white thieves while they have stolen batteries.

A black gate marked with a number needs that many batteries to pass through.

You can shoot fireballs.

The link doesn't work!
And why is the game made in the Jam? It looks like only one Person worked at it, nothing bad but also not impressive.

I liked that cutscene at the beginning, chuckled once or twice. Nice idea with thief enemies. I think you should place less enemies and flying fireballs. Too much is happening on the screen.

Nice little game but the music is a little bit annoying.

Great game with a great story! I wish you could shoot the ghost things with the gun, but they're ghosts.

Nice entry, you should add some instructions to this, I didn't know that you need X amount of batteries to unlock the numbered blocks, but hey I figured it out!

The game is good, the controls are nice and some ideas (like the battery thief monsters) are interesting, but it could have been better.

One problem I see is that "buttons" that open the doors are almost identical to the doors, so is hard to identify what is what.

Also, there isn't any way to die in this game, what on the other hand is good because it will be horrible to start again a the labyrinth.

Interesting game! I included it in my Ludum Dare 39 compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kvWeoxTQbD4

Really dug the 8-bit vibe of the game, music was awesome. Nothing seems to be able to really hurt me or take any health which made the game easy. Level layout and scale was really nice though, nice compact jam game.

A pretty moody dungeon crawler with some refreshing mechanics!

Likes:
- the key and battery collection mechanics are a really cool progression method
- the ghosts that steal you batteries really drive me crazy (in a good way)
- I loved the lamp oil as a secondary resource, that's cool.
- I liked that you only get pushed to some kind of pseudo-safepoint when you got hit. really user-friendly

Try differently:
- a hint of sound and hit feedback would help
- I didn't realize I could shoot the fireballs until loooong into the game.

Overall:
- really decent gamemaker game (I  GameMaker).
- the badger is a cool character

OxiClean was made for the purpose of funding Steroid-Turtle research? I KNEW IT!

But seriously, nice game! Fighting enemies was kinda annoying given how fidgety aiming was, but because you couldn't die it evened out rather nicely. Only other thing I'd change is that the backtracking was also kinda tedious over time, and so either changing the level design to account for this or adding a sprint feature would help immensely.

Fun game, got some Gauntlet vibe. My only problem is that enemy placement is uninspired, like one room is just filled with blue blobs, and other just with fireballs.
