Theme: Running out of power

Entry for the ludum dare 39.

This is my first game jam, and the objective was finish a game on 48 hours or less.

The game was made with Pico-8 the fantasy console https://www.lexaloffle.com/pico-8.php

Basically the game is a clone of the classic Space Invaders, with a decreasing power bar. You must control the ship and shoot the aliens to recover a bit of power and make the best score of the universe.

To control the ship use left / right arrows and action or Z key to shoot.

Cute little clone. It felt like losing was inevitable. Correct me if I'm wrong, but it appeared you got a little power back on destroying invaders? I would have liked an additional skill based recharge, like a UFO that crosses the top of the screen that restored more power if you got it. Still overall good!

This is the most fun I've ever had shooting green sperm at one-eye space aliens.

Pretty basic, but a neat and complete package. I think it'd make sense if the player lost power for shooting (and not over time) or something like that, otherwise they can just spam the shoot button! That way you're forcing players to consider their aim and carefully time their shots etc. The graphics did the job, they were clear and readable as needed. Good work!

@jelch yes you gain a bit of power when kill an alien. This is a feature of the game :wink:
