STR!PES by Geckoo1337

[raw]
made by Geckoo1337 for LD 44 (JAM)

*For an unknown reason, a hacker has decided to destroy my leaderboard online. So for a while it was not reachable. It’s a pity. I fixed it today, ~~but all previous scores have been lost~~. Thank you for your comprehension. Also I would like to promote this cool project, offering for the best five players a free key of my previous game which is available on Steam - Theorem. This contest runs until LD results. Try if you dare :) *

your life is (con)currency

Done! This is my entry for the 44th LudumDare session. I create a super-hexagon clone, changing the chosen theme for something a little bit different - your life is (con)currency. In computer science, concurrency refers to the ability of different parts of a program or algorithm to be executed in partial order, without affecting the final outcome. In my project there is only code - some procedural generation for shapes and stripes - no sprite, no prefab, no physics, no implicite value (excepted a radius PI). I optimized each part of code so as to reach the lowest execution using a simple (but efficient) pooling system and an improved implementation of coroutine. Also I use a leaderboard on-line so as to save best scores. This way all players can rival with others. Of course, like in the original game, the main gameplay is really really hard, but with training you can reach some good score and skill. Try it if you dare ++

I did a video for those who don't want to play. I guess that it's enough so that you can understand the gameplay, the main aesthetic and the smooth execution. Not my best score :)

I have not played the original game but your game feels very polished and was a lot of fun. As you said in the description this game is insanely hard. I didn't manage to get better than 12 seconds.

Quite addictive, I will come back later to try again. The scoreboard is a nice touch as well.

Since the game is the same everytime i think it really gives that geometry dash vibe where one can get better with each attempt. |Not me though, I am just not good at it!
Awesome game!

Nice aesthetics, and I totally forgot that there were leaderboards even in pc games  Nostalgic.

Always good to see some procedural art!

Very pleasing game to play, I got better with little practice! The scoreboard kept me from giving up. Your take on the theme is pretty cool too. Great job on making a fantastically optimized game.

Love super hexagon so hard not to love this. Congrats on a mostly faithful recreation, although The interpretation of the theme is a stretch :) Thanks for the twist by not letting us brush up against the sides and survive.

I've played the original game, so I don't see the point for players like me to play your game, only for comparison i guess :s. It's technically good, even though i would like more contrast on the stripes.

Nice graphics and sounds, impressive for a jam game, particularly the way it has been coded! Could have been more in the theme though.

Definitely a Super Hexagon clone, and a well-made one at that. The game's slower pace and lack of some interface screw elements present in SH make it a more comprehensible one, albeit still difficult due to the larger hitbox and less forgiving walls. All-in-all a good experience.

EDIT: I noticed that even after the game is closed, the process still exists according to Task Manager.

I don't really see it fitting the theme. That being said, it's an amazing and fun game. I love the music!

Having played a TON of super hexagon, this was really nice to see. You managed to capture the atmosphere of Super Hexagon really well. The visual effects in particular are really good. There are a lot of minor details that are a little less polished than the original game, like the transitions between polygons being rougher, less leniency on the hit detection near edges, and not being able to push into the sides of rings. The polygon transitions can sometimes just kill you and there's nothing you can do about it. All that aside though, this is really neat. I'm gonna keep playing 'till I get the #1 spot on the leaderboard :P

Really fun and challenging, and I like that you managed to put a highscore list in as well. I feel like it would be easier if I could use the mouse to move.

Really interesting interpretation of the theme. Awesome to see a completely procedurally generated game.

But man, I'm so bad at Super Hexagon.

I haven't played the original, but I really like this game! It's simple and polished and I'm a sucker for rythm games. I just find that, for me, it doesn't really fit the theme at all, even with the explanation. Also I feel like it gets too hard too fast, it doesn't give the player enough time to get used to the controls before it starts getting real. I really liked to know about the way you coded this. It's very impressive! I had a lot of fun with your game. :) Good job!

This is a really well made, nearly perfect implementation of Super Hexagon. It plays and performs almost exactly like the original and has some really good music attached to it, although I'm not sure where the theme fits in. It's a shame that you are punished for touching the sides of the walls, something the original doesn't do.

I am a huge Super Hexagon fan, and this is a great clone! It _almost_ felt like the original, but the walls were a little tighter and unforgiving. It made the getting past the 18 mark on the scoring a little tough at first. I really liked this.

I was a bit surprised when the collision could effect the side of the triangle, I guess I was too used to Super Hexagon not having that. Great game overall, nice work!

Since I played the original Super Hexagon for over 30 hours, I absolutely love your game! It's more difficult because you are not allowed to touch the obstacles __at all__ and the shape shifting is pretty hard to handle. I'd say the music is a bit too soft, especially the beatthat is responsible for the "pulse-like" effect of the hexagon.

Your interpretation of the theme is very innovative and interesting! Although you have to explain your interpretation of the theme since the game itself couldn't. Great job

As someone who has played Super Hexagon (a lot), I was immediately drawn to this. I really enjoyed it, however as @sn4pi said, it was incredibly hard without being able to even touch the sides of the obstacles.
The music was fantastic imo, and I was very impressed with the leaderboard.
Did you implement the leaderboard backend as well, with a personal server? Or was it hosted for you? I am very curious because I am keen to try this for my next game jam. Well done, keep up the great work. :D
