Older than War by BetelgeuseMan

[raw]
made by BetelgeuseMan for LD 44 (COMPO)

Apparently, I overestimated my capabilities and didn’t manage to do almost anything. In the end, I finally broke everything. And now, just as enemies cannot attack normally, the player’s control refuses to work normally (at least in compiled form ... in the editor, control seems to be quite good).

[UPD: I fix some bugs]

The plans were: A game where, after a defeat, you were asked to choose a card with a bonus in exchange for a few years of life, after which the level started anew, but you became weaker because you were older.

The game has no sound/music (I did not have time to do it).

Controls (Updated):

  • WASD - Movement
  • LMB - Shoot
  • Q - Change weapon
  • Mouse Wheel Scroll - Turn camera
  • E - Interact (with truck at the level end)

Rules:

  • At the beginning you have a pistol.
  • You need to destroy the enemy squad and get to the enemy truck.
  • After death, you can spend a few "years of life" to choose from and receive a skill card in return.
  • Also, after aging (after death), your parameters will drop, except for one that you choose.
  • When you run out all the years you lose the game.

Update from 29.04.2019:

  1. Fixed generation of skill cards (the choice was not from all possible cards)
  2. Fixed a bug with turns (the character could not turn during the shooting)
  3. Fixed a bug with terrible character management (it arose because of an extra camera, which I forgot to remove)
  4. Fixed bug with the fact that enemies sometimes stopped shooting
  5. Trucks were turned
  6. The camera was close to ignore the enemies before they notice the player.
  7. Added inscription about winning
  8. Fixed a bug when you could just get to the truck without killing anyone (now the level is difficult to pass but you can)
  9. Reassigned input keys
  10. Ported to Windows

@deathbysnail, Yes of course thanks! I just took, it seems to me, the idea of a game that is too based on content and only on the second day I realized that it was difficult to simplify. It was also worthwhile to pay more attention to the gameplay related to the theme of LD. Definitely, the next time I need to come up with a smaller game.

Interesting game, the graphics are pretty cool. I think it's a bit difficult to controll the player. A healthbar would have been good

I liked the art style and the shooting felt pretty cool. I also liked the idea of the upgrades when I died. Some instructions would have helped but sometimes you can't get to things like that in 48 hours. Me being critical: Encountered several bugs where I was stuck and couldn't move. I wish that there were some sound affects to make it more alive.

@techsec Oh, I do not know, it seems that other people could play (And it works for me. I checked it on Opera and YandexBrowser right now). Maybe try again?

The HTML5 version works for me (Chrome).
It’s quite a fun game, although with some bugs, I got stuck in the terrain and fell outside the world a few times :D.

Interesting take on the theme, I haven't seen anyone use the idea of trading years of your life! I liked the artwork. Like others said there were some bugs (I was able to walk straight off the level). It would be great if there was a health indicator for the player and enemies!

This is super interesting! Although- I don't know if I like the idea of trading away my life. O_O

I'm not quite sure what happened but I was able to draw this star shape:
