Blow Out by Cristi Mihai

[raw]
made by Cristi Mihai for LD 39 (COMPO)

As my first time in Unity, Ludum Dare and game dev I present you this almost game that doesn't do much. No real mechanic, no end or win game, but at least you're slowly <>.

The idea was that you are in this house full of gadgets and everyone tries to use them and fuses keep blowing up. It was meant to be your job to fix them all before they drive you crazy.

The music was generated on Abundant Music and then ran through GXSCC, as one fellow gamedev suggested so I'm opting out of the Audio section.

All the artwork is done in Photoshop, including animations, again, a first to me.

Most of the time was spent learning Unity and trying to work with the beta Tilemap. :(

I liked the walk cycle on the main dude. That house leaves me with a lot of questions. Your ?sibling? is constantly burning something, there are no toilets in the bathroom, and other weirdness. Your only solace is sitting next to the fridge and downing redbull after redbull.

Jokes aside, for being your first time in Unity it looks like you've learned quite a bit. I don't think you were actually too far off here from a real game.

Very interesting entry! I only played a few minutes going to the kitchen three times. It could be look like a critic of modern life! :)

Emptiness and energy drinks. Repetitive sounds and movement. only thing you see is girls and tv. Oh man this is depressing xD

I didn't figure out where to get more cola/drinks. The ladies in the game were sitting idly and not doing anything. But I probably didn't know the right keycodes / space/wasd etc didn't help.

When you have a very limited time span it's all about priorities. I think you did a great job on your artwork, but you might have cut some parts in order to get the game some simple mechanics and goals.

I hope you had fun on your first jam. I look forward to play your future games!

Nice job on the artwork. I wouldn't have guessed you'd never made any before, fantastic work! Really like the music too. I'm thinking the main guy is gonna have a heart attack soon, guess one more red bull'll be ok...

You obviously now the areas that can be improved but I'd like to add that I really liked some of the artwork - like the tv for example. That is really good quality! Artwork wise you could work on the animations. I know how freakish hard (at least for me) animations from multible angles are... You are even better at that than me. But e.g. the sideways walk of the player character looks strange in my opinion. I wouldn't change the upper body and only change the legs - because it looks vers flattened when you do it they way you did it. That way or you could crank up the resoluition just by a tiny bit. All in all good job and I'll see you next LD!

Nice prototype of game. The walking simulator is good. The powered by RedBull thing is fun. Need some interaction with the other people. I thought they were girlfriends or friends with benefits... never mind.
Keep moving forward.

If I understood right this is your first time making animated sprites, then very impressive. If not, still very impressive. I know you opted out of the music category, but I wish you hadn't, the music was very nice. I think my favorite part was the red bull stats in the upper left. I watched them run out, as my speed declined. I felt like that was very representative of LD as a whole. As far as the house, it's nicely laid out, with good clean repeating textures. Also that red-head who went back and forth at the TV made me laugh. Cheers.

Frankly, this is rather cool. Your animations and graphics do the trick and have some charming quality (some Stardew Valley vibe or, well, Hotline Miami). I frowned on the use of a well-known brand as a main asset/counter, but, why not.

I like that the player is slowing when thirsty. Would have liked to be able to turn the TV on :)
