Planet Hopper by mihnescu

[raw]
made by mihnescu for LD 38 (JAM)

Disclaimer: Many features I didn't get to implement, including putting up a proper game so this is more like prototype of a planet walking and planet-to-planet jumping mechanic. But it was fun making it :-) and I will continue to make this into a proper game-prototype in the following weeks.

Very short description:

  • Small floating vehicle navigates small spherical worlds
  • It can go around it really quickly
  • Main Objective: Find the monolith
  • Collect energy to jump to the neighboring planets, the last planet has the monolith

Issues:

  • No proper sign & feedback for the user, player is not told what to do so do read the text in the start menu
  • Energy mechanic was not fleshed out, including respawning of energy cells, so there is no energy requirement for jumping
  • No proper progression and LD, just some planets put together fast to make it playable
  • Glitchy when jumping (sometimes) and you might get stuck into a planet. just try and move around to unstuck or refresh the game.
  • You cannot access the MAINMENU without finishing the game.

Cute little game, I liked the planets art style :) as you said it could use some more polishing, and I got stuck inside the planet I was on twice. The starry sky was nice too. Sound would also help a lot.
(Btw loading the HTML version really did take looooong, rather a minute.)

Hey, thanks for playing. I am planning to release a more polished version maybe next week. Not something to release, but I really like the planet jumping mechanic, at least how I have it in my head and I aim to have a more polished prototype that shows this :-) (including sound). The starry sky is from asset store, so is not my doing.

About hosting, I will try to get something better, maybe I will put it to itch.io

I didn't quite understand if I missed something as I couldn't find more than 6 energy cells and the closest planet is 7 away. When I tried to go to another planet it let me, but now I am in negative energy cells. Not sure if I missed some energy cells or it's a bug?

I think the planets looks quite nice, but could use some more props. The movement of the vehicle is also quite nice and I like the scale it gives to the planet.
