All the Spiders by LillyByte

[raw]
made by LillyByte for LD 40 (JAM)

"All the Spiders" is a game about catching and releasing spiders before you have too many to deal with. You have to run around and catch the spiders and then release them outside, but they can be a little quick, sometimes! Be sure to catch as many spiders as you can before you are completely overrun by them. Can you stop your house from filling up with spiders?

Almost finished?

Press SPACE to pick up the spiders and see if you can find Ryan, but don't get too close and step on him!

I never got to work out the last minute bugs that would have made this playable. :( But, we allllmost made it. :(

I love the art style and sound/music choices.

This deserves a working post-compo version methinks!

The art is nice and the core concept is pretty good! My biggest complaint is that sometimes spiders will run under your feet and die all on their own.

Thanks for the comments! @FireSlash, this game will get a post-compo version. Nataloe and I will continue working on the things that had to be cut. @Grentacular, thanks! Yeah, the spiders were not supposed to be squished if you were standing still, instead would have avoided you, but alas, time constraints! :)

"You Killed Ryan" I don't know why the phrasing of that made me laugh, but it did. I liked the creepy art style, it definitely set the tone and strange vibe. I might consider different gameplay to suit that style, rather than the arcade-y collect items. Not sure exactly what, just something to think about.

I love the art style! I think this fits the theme very well, but the sound the spiders make when they get squished is SOUL CRUSHING.

Overall, well done! I'd love to see the full working version :)

This beautiful art style makes a perfect combination with background music. As for mechanics, I accidentally skipped the final screen three times in a row, so I don't know if I found Ryan or killed him. :(

@Bodom4ever The original idea was to have spiders you caught, release them outside... but, alas, we ran short of time. :) @Yngvarr Thank you, Nataloe did amazing with the art! And the ending screens really need refinement, for sure! :)

I really like the aesthetic of the game! The music is also very nice. It's a shame that you didn't get to finish.

Good mood and feel to the game. Loved that the art was literally drawn on paper but then used as digitial assests with some items layered ontop of eachother. Good humour, fun times! A bit random but def in line with theme!! You guys rock!

Lilly! Tell Nat that her art was so cool for this. You don't see many games that exist where all of the art is hand-drawn and scanned in. I really liked the gritty aspect of that.

The mechanic of picking up each spider was pretty humorous to me, it felt like i was asking each of them their name. :)

So sad that you couldn't finish it in time.
Sound and graphics set an awesome mood and I like the humor.
Alos I think it is very nice to see that there are other people that know that you don't have to squish spiders but can just put them outside.
I just these damn spiders weren't so suicidal and tried to squeeze under my feet all the time.
Wait, I'm a ghost. Why do I have feet?

That squashing noise though, hahah! Love the art style and audio, and the fact that I saved Private Ryan - even if it's by randomly mashing Space. Good stuff.

Artwork was super cool! Made the mood super cool, sort of Tim Burtonish. Had a good time listening to the tunes and stomping/picking up spidey dudes.
