No Space For Corpses by bigboyenzo

[raw]
made by bigboyenzo for LD 42 (JAM)

Top-down shooter where enemy corpses take up space. Corpses block bullets so you will need to upgrade your weapons and manage your surroundings to get a high score!

Movement: Use [W],[A],[S],[D] to move your character around the battlefield, shooting zombies toward your cursor with [Left Click].

Guns: There are three available guns: pistol, rifle, and submachinegun. Each has their own unique damage, reload speed, clip size, and penetration (how many zombies 1 bullet can go through). Toggle between these guns with [Q] and [E].

Items: There are three available items: bomb, decoy, and shield. Each has their own unique cooldown and behavior.

-Bomb: Use the bomb [1] to deal massive damage to all zombies within the blast zone. The bomb will destroy corpses! Note: We are aware of a bug where the bomb can only be used once.

-Shield: Use the shield [2] to block all zombie damage for a set amount of time.

-Decoy: Use the decoy [3] to distract the zombies and get them off you. The decoy is placed on the cursor, so place wisely!

After each wave, player will be teleported to a shop where they can upgrade their gun's clip size, accuracy, damage, and penetration!

The idea is great (similar to mine even), but I feel like the corpses ended up not having to much of an effect on the game, and they could have been utilized more.

Fun game, and really cool concept for the theme!

I thought the upgrade screen (between waves) was a bit un-intuitive - the first time through I accidentally upgraded my shotgun. Gameplay was pretty fun. I found corpses didn't stack up as much as long as I was careful not to shoot them in the narrow passageways.

I also made the mistake the first time through of shooting the big guy instead of the horde of little guys and I got flooded.

Anyway, cool game. Congrats on your submission! :)

Enjoyed this one, good idea for the theme!
Like the others mentionned though, I feel there was too much open space for the amount of enemies.
My suggestion would be to make the spaces a bit smaller and the enemies weaker, so that killing them isn't the issue but maneuvering around the bodies is.
Also the sound was REALLY loud!

The "bosses" and upgrades were cool though - I ended up cornered by a ton of zombies and that's what killed me. Appropriate to the theme and was a lot of fun :)

I enjoyed the background music, that being said the gun shot sounds were too loud relative to the music.

Really enjoyed it! My only feedback would be to tone down the gunshot sounds a bit, and to allow the player to switch guns in the middle of a reload. Good job!

Ya sounds need a bit of tweaking but the game was fun.

Overall I found it to be a good game the music was nice and set the right tone I felt as well as the zombie noises being quite goofy which suited the game well and the graphics reminded me of old flash games which isn't bad but could stand to improve upon. However when it came to game play the weapon upgrade screen was very weird perhaps a UI would've been nicer to navigate and I felt the balance between the different weapons were a bit off I just stuck with the pistol. Overall it was a good game and I hope the reviews treat you well.

As others have said, overall good game, fun to play but volume levels could have done with tweaking

Wow, your game is loud!! The corpses are too small to have an impact on gameplay.

Fun to play. Aiming had a length component I wasn't expecting that made it more interesting. It was actually a bit tough if you're not 100% focused, since the bodies start to pile up, which I really like.

I was running the game in chrome and the upgrades menu didn't seem to be working, and it wasn't the same size as the screen so the HUD overlay was sitting on top of a lot of the images and text.

All in, updating the upgrades menu would be nice, but the actual gameplay felt really good.

Really had fun, especially with the fast fire rate guns. Love that feeling of shooting tons of bullets into something, reminds me of the old CoD submachine guns. Had a few problems though, the movement kept getting glitched, not too often tho. The graphics were ok, but I think it'd be better if there wasn't overlapping text. All in all, felt good to play it.

Pretty good. I would have liked a clicking upgrade rather than a walk-ontop of it kind, but other than that; good. reminded me of crimson land.

Cool idea and being a fan of top-down shooters I really enjoyed the gameplay. Sound might be a bit too loud, but is of good quality. I also like the graphics. Maybe penetration for guns should be a bit lower to increase the effect of bodies lying around.

Reminds me of a top-down version of Serious Sam - it also plays itself like this. Some suggestions: zombies with randomized speed, player dodging, boss fights, collectable items. Well done anyways
