The Last Question. by RarefactionQ

[raw]
made by RarefactionQ for LD 39 (COMPO)

This is my first LD so I tried to make something simple and atmospheric for my game. When the theme was announced I immediately thought of the Issac Asimov's short story "The Last Question". The running down of "power" in the universe has always haunted me. I chose to include a recording of my friends and I singing F. R. C. Clarke's "O Magnum Mysterium." If you feel quiet, alone and a little uneasy then I've succeeded in sharing the feeling of entropy with you.

The game lasts a little over 3 minutes. Move around and explore the universe.

"Unease" is a good word for it. The song was great and tied the experience together. Full marks for audio and mood from me without a doubt. I also liked what you did with the theme. Very different, less of a "game" in the traditional sense so it'll be interesting to see what people think. Thanks for sharing the feeling with us!

Hey! You should consider hosting this on itch.io if it's a web game, instead of having a download link. Many more people will play it then :)

Sadly I can't rate as I only use chrome :(

A very unique experience and welcome change to the many classic games.

Congratulations to your first Ludum Dare entry. You created a nice and unique game. A very strange experience!
And you´re a pretty good singer :-)

But one note: The rules for compo are:
1. You must work alone (solo).
2. Your game, all your content (i.e. Art, Music, Sound, etc) must be created in 48 hours.

So if you use a recording of you and your friend, it´s not really along the rules (For a jam it would have been ok).
At least you should put audio out of the rating.
Don´t wanted to offend, just my 2 cents...

Besides of that, I liked your game. Good job!

Unless I'm missing something this is more an interactive video than a game. It's pretty though. Song was well done and the controls were all smooth. One thing - it seems I had the ability to do a 360 view, but if I rotated far enough to the right to get off the page (full screen) and tried to go the other way, I didn't have a way to "lock the view" so I could move the mouse to the opposite side of the page (or something similar) so I could continue my rotation in that direction. Hopefully you can work out for next time getting the HTML5 version hosted so it's a little easier to just jump in and try. Thanks for entering!

I can't actually play your game without hosting it on the web myself (at least not while using chrome). If you hosted the game on something like itch.io than people would be able to play it.

@gilborn, that's a good point. I thought the music stuff was more about having rights to using the content. I've opted out of audio.

Huh, really weird experience (almost as weird as having to download a browser game), but I guess I enjoyed it. Keep it up and come back next year!
