Pipe Warrior, Mech Dream by Aerynus

[raw]
made by Aerynus for LD 41 (JAM)

Pipe Warrior, Mech Dream is a mashup of Pipe Dream and Mech Warrior.

Take control of the tank with the world's most unpractical engine and find your way out of a maze infested with evil oogly-eyed mechs. Link the different modules of the tank engine together with pipes to feed them fuel when they need it. Keep readjusting the pipes to make the engine do what you want. Good luck!

I wanted to submit this game for the Compo but couldn't finish it in time. I did everything myself.

I like the idea and it suits the theme very well, but playing the game was just way too frustrating.

The pipe dream / mech genre mashup is very clear, and doing 3d graphics is impressive. But it was too hard for me - I died 3 times from leaks without firing a single shot. It is almost like a demake Zachtronics's "The Bureau of Steam Engineering", isn't it?

I didn't know "The Bureau of Steam Engineering", thanks for the tip! The game is indeed very difficult, sorry for that :).

Nice little game you submitted here !
It seemed really hard at first but once you got the hang of it, the tank let itself be maneuvered without much of a hassle.

As for the cons :

-The game definitely lack of a button to speed up things when you are in a long corridor
-A mechanic to stash pieces would have been a nice thing to have (it can be frustrating to dump pieces into the board to get the only one you need)

Congratulations !

Pretty neat, I could definitely see this work if the random pipes wouldn't constantly screw you over though :D
Super hectic (which is a good thing really)

A very nice idea, fits the theme very well. The mechanics are nice.

The audio got a bit repetitive after a while.

And there might be a bug: When you get hit and start spinning, you never stop, while the movement logic still acts based on the last turn left / right you made, so you might appear look forward, but move backwards.

A very interesting game.

Love the idea, figuring out I could make loops to store certain amount of fuel by itself was nice. Tetris style pipe randomization would be probably better to prevent frustration situations from happening. Sometimes the dragging of pipes gets confused about if I'm holding the mouse button down or not(sometimes it releases on it's own other times I don't even need to hold it) just click to pick up and drop would be better I think. Camera seems to like to rotate on it's own after some actions.
Also it seems you can get fuel to overlap in a way that there's fuel going in both directions.![Pipe Warrior Mech Dream.png](///raw/e98/z/13787.png) the 2 fuels are going in opposite directions so it later looks like this ![Pipe Warrior Mech Dream2.png](///raw/e98/z/13789.png)
And there's no gameover for totally running out of fuel, also didn't realize you could delete with right click, I wonder if moving stuff already on the board would make it too easy.

Innovation 5/5 very good, Theme is 4/5 you combined two incompatible genre and they worked very well together.

Audio 3/5 I dont know if this accordion music is the best fit lol.

Fun: 3/5 it's difficult no doubt but I got the hang of it, I would have liked for the turns to be a bit faster like Olivier said. Problem is everything just takes very long to do so that reduces the fun a bit.

Humor I leave blank, mood is a 3. Only bad part the graphics very simple and plain I give a 2/5.

Overall good effort enjoyed playing it 3.5/5.

The idea is pretty good but it was frustrating and boring playing it. And everything is going too slow.

This fits the theme perfectly and I'm amazed you even came up with the idea. I assume theme and innovation scores will be high in general. Nice to see someone combining 2d and 3d together as well. Maybe a bit too hard for me which lowers the fun score and I would have liked a little longer time to make up a plan before the fuel starts coming. Good effort overall.

That was a pretty innovative game, and also pretty funny. Learning curve is a bit steep but after few minutes you get the grasp on things and TRY TO somehow progress in the maze. I really like how game forces you to prepare your 'engine routes' for future, it's always nice to have 'shoot cubes' nearby that you can activate with one block. Game is pretty challenging but also rewarding at the same time, with each try you get significantly better. I like the graphics and music, both set this nice lighthearted, goofy feel to the game. Well done!

Great concept and game! I actually enjoyed it a lot. Like others are saying it is a bit too step learning curve. I also think that a tutorial would be nice of some kind.

This is a really clever concept, well done! I love how just moving forwards or turning a corner requires planning and ends up feeling like a big achievement :D I think it would have helped if there was a fast-forward button, though, since moving down long corridors takes a very long time. Also, I'm not sure if it was a bug, but I was constantly slowly turning anticlockwise which made it difficult to shoot the enemies, which I found quite frustrating. Overall a really cool entry, though – definitely top marks for innovation and theme!

I really liked the concept! But I think that the fuel flows too fast.

Very nice innovative concept! Once I got things rolls it was really interesting to plan a bit.
Would have loves a 'fast forward'/'speed' dial, some straight tunnels took too long. :P
Had to break up the fuel loop a few times because it erroniously though it was out of fuel.

i see that the two incompatible genres were the puzzling and the fighting thing but the thing is when i drop accidently the bloc it can't be removed idk probably u check it probably it is my mistake but all in all good design and idea good
