About game:

My third LD entry. Your task is simple, survive as long as possible. But environment in this game is'nt much friendly. You must eat for hinder hunger, heat yourself for prevent freeze in cold night, and lastly defend yourself before zombies, who are wake up at night. Peace time (day) is limited, every day you must prepare for night, make some supplies for next deadly night.

How I make animation and player ? Answer is very simple, I make a very simple 3D model of player and weapons with sceleton, and create simple animations for it. Run throug Unity3D and bake these animations into sprites with weapons and wtihout them (there are around 200 sprites for this animations in sheet :) Thanx god for automate tools which helps me with converting from 3D to 2D sprite)

How to play ?

  • 1) You must watch your stats (power), if your heat or hunger go under 0, you will start dying.
  • 2) Day have 2 minutes, and every night (60 seconds), will come zombies in wave, there are also cold so you need warm with campfire and fight with zombies.
  • 3) For better weapons and tools you must mine stone and wood
  • 4) For decrease hunger, you need pick food from bushes and eat it
  • 5) Every tool and weapon can be upgraded, but you can carry only one so you must switch between them by click on specific item (not just buy it)

Controlls

  • Movement: [W][A][S][D] or arrow keys
  • Attack/mine: [SPACE_BAR]
  • Eat: Hit eat button
  • Buy item: Hit plus button on items
  • Switch item: Hit icon in inventory

Tools:

Axe axe.jpg Basic tool for quicker mine wood and stone, it can't be use for attack, you will attack as free hand.

Knife knife.jpg

First attack weapon, power is poor, but you can survive few nights only with this knife.

Sword sword.jpg Advanced weapon for mid game, without upgraded sword, you can't survive for more then 5 days.

Battle axe battleaxe.jpg This weapon looks so cool, and it's also very powerfull, fully upgraded battle axe will destroy every zombie wave.

Out of time

(48 hour is not much, but I not want submit in JAM): - More sounds (footsteps, zombie hit, zombie dead, player hit, campfire) - Whole tutorial "room" - More environment props (trunks, stones, flowers) - Thirst state, player must drink from well - Better balancing (item price, item damage, zombie wave and damage)

Bug fixes - 31.7. 11:50 CET - Fixed very easy gameplay with cold, its almost not challanging (maybe it require more balancing for better difficulty) - https://github.com/hadikcz/LudumDare39Lastsurvivor/commit/e19de07b9d195462a70fe4445292a360314f8a03 - 1.8. 23:17 CET - Double food bush count, for easy difficulty - https://github.com/hadikcz/LudumDare39Lastsurvivor/commit/82feaeb148b2fadd02a2bf3268e03e8574dc0f3c

cool game, could do with some kind of objective beyond just surviving though.

** First impression **: The look of your game really captured me well done :)

** Graphics/Sound **: I was really impressed by your graphics, the top down look kinda reminded me of the old diablo games, very well done :)

** Gameplay **: I enjoyed the various options you have implemented in your game, which leaves me more choice on what i can do, really well executed, one thing tho without reading the instruction it wasn't initially clear that i had to use space to mine stuff, maybe an short tutorial would be nice :)

** Overall **: You can be really proud of you, you achieved quite something in the limited timeframe :)

beautiful graphics, well done there. reminds me of old-school top-down RPGs like Baldur's gate. the animations are all very nice, too; fluid and full of character.

nitpicks:

- some music would have been nice to set the mood
- it isn't clear to me how you buy/upgrade items
- not a fan of hold-one-button-to-do-everything gameplay

Your graphics are excellent. This feels like a complete game, nice work! With my first run I almost unlocked the max level of everything, but I just died before unlocking the top level of the last item. This game is the one I played the longest so far. On the other hand, the simplicity of it works both ways - it is easy to understand what I have to do, but there isn't much variation to keep me going.

Awesome entry. I really like this kind of game. It's look solid and you can just add another itmes. For me it was hard to find any food. You should also correct a bit generating object because they sometimes overlaps each other. Well done!!

I actually played this game for longer than I'd like to admit. More SFX and would definitely have made the game better to play, and a increase in difficult as time goes on too. Otherwise really well done.

Really enjoyed the graphics. Some background music would be cool. Overall nice solid experience.

Didn't like:
- the character speed was a little too slow for me
- it was hard to find food

Liked:
- everything else!
- it was well-designed
- the graphics set the mood beautifully
- congratulations on finishing within 48 hours!!

I liked the game a said before it feels pretty complete, however, the character needs to be a bit faster it felt like he had to run through mud or something. SOme background music to set the mood or (think about day /night) would made this better i thik but if you see how much finish there is in this game i think you would have little time left for that.

It's is well designed, the character speed is a little slow though and the wood fire fade out too quicky. Other than that I like the game. The graphics are good and the sounds did the job. Congrats on the entry. ;)

Very nice visual design and general feeling.

The game feels kinda slow at first, do to player movements and the high level of resource required for the fire.

Spent my first night running in circles around a fire, chased by zombies... Good "Don't Starve" vibe :)

Very polished for a compo!

Heya! :) I just wanted to say that I tried your game and I loved it.

The artstyle and animations look great, and I really liked the concept. Also, the upgrade elements are a nice addition, they add objectives beyond just surviving.

Overall, a nice little game that deserves the high score I gave it. Out of the games I’ve played so far I played this one the longest! Seriously, great job!!

- made it a fortnight didn't seem to be any end to the game
- would have been nice to have some music with a day/night cycle
- some sounds for the combat/zombies would be nice
- graphics were fairly good pixel art for a compo
- would be nice if your character would automatically use the best tool for the situation.. took a while to figure out how to switch
- not sure what value the knife upgrades were or the sword upgrades, given that the cost/benefit ratios weren't there over just getting first upgrade of the next weapon.

I would of been nice to have some sort of end game or goal other than just surviving but the surviving mechanic itself is pretty well done given the time frame. The graphics are pleasing and everything seems to work just fine. I felt like it got a bit too easy once you got the upgrades but other than that a really good little time waster well done! :)

Wow for a compo it's really impressive! Everything work really well, it's BEAUTIFUL, and the mechanics are solid!
One of the best compo entry I've seen so far!

Good looking game with nice survival gameplay!

Likes:
- lush, smooth graphics
- punchy sounds
- Zombies!
- decent survival mechanics
- a lot of content and mechanics for a compo entry!

Challenges:
- a sound when an object like a tree breaks would have added to the immersion
- initial gameplay can be a bit tedious before it gets frantic

Simple, but fun. I really like how all the mechanics go together. This is just the core of survival games, but it works nice. Good job.

Really well built game! The only thing I thought could be better is the character speed. Also some background music would be nice, but for 48h there isn't time for everything :p
Very good job, congratulations :)

Nice game. I played the web version, it seems to be buggy as I couldn't buy any updates. Even though I had the wood and stones, full health, full food, and full fire to buy them it still showed "locked". I played for 5 minutes, and it still stayed locked.

Nice game. But I have definitly a problem with the tutorial in the description page (just make a screen of the instructions in the game could be better), but anyway, you had 48 hours. There are no musics, that a bad point at my sight. The art makes me think to Pronject Zomboid, that's a good point x) But the gameplay is not very well executed, I think you could make the player able to avoid zombies, walk faster, etc ... But anyway, the game is entertaining and I wanted to have the Batleaxe ( x) Do not forget to check a second time your game for spelling mistakes x) ). Good game :) Keep coding :)

The gameplay seems very similar to "Don't Starve". But it's fun! It's impressive what you did in 48 hours.

Great game. I like the Don't Starve like mechanics. Gameplay seems quite balanced for a LD game too, although it took me some time to figure it out. Some eerie music would have been great. I have always thought art styles like this were made with 3D models, and now I know, great stuff! Fun entry!

Nice entry! Art style perfectly fits the mood

It seems like a faster character would make the game more dynamic

**overall comments and game impression** It's like don't starve all over again hahah xD Great art, sound effects and gameplay. Everything felt nicely done, polished and balanced. I didn't encounter any bugs. It was interesting game and I'm amazed you managed to finish somehting like that for the LD XD good job!

**Things i'd like to see changed / improvement notes** different enemies at night... currently it's just other survivors attacking you, seems silly...
That's all.

Good game! good job
