MechJox by Houruck
A text adventure game with stat driven turn-based QTE combat to test your choices and reflexes alike. Influenced by gamebooks and my undying love for mechs. This is my very first interactive fiction made with Twine.

The combat was fairly easy, but you still have to be focused because of the short timer.
I left my rating of your game, if you can leave your feedback in our game, Witch's Escape.
I hope you continue with the project.

I liked the mood of this game, and the idea behind it. I hope you will make an extended version as a post-jam.
(and if you want more rates, it's simple : go play and rate games!)
So, anyway, I learned that I panic too much and don't have time to check and react to both info strings (enemy attack and enemy defense), so I just focused on protecting myself first and attacking whatever figured - it's a guaranteed hit 2/3 of times, right? It proved to be a flawless strategy, although I felt I cheated somehow...
So maybe you can include a slight delay aka state of shock if your mech hits the foe's protected spot, like a recoil from a blocked hit? It might stop the filthy cheaters like me from blindly spamming attack, I believe :D
Fantastic storytelling. Loved the branching endings. Had a real "Choose Your Own Adventure" feel. The interface was very simple and precise. I had a hard time seeing some of the text- i zoomed in the screen manually and that was a little better- btw I was outdoors- not in prime viewing environment. I was a little confused with combat first, but ran away and repaired- when I came back- I got the hang of it and CRUSHED my opponent. I was also confused at how to exit my mech- i knew that I needed to- thanks to the clever exposition and foreshadowing- when i found it- it seemed obvious enough. Loved this game- will play again. You had my imagination rolling more than any other game this jam. Thanks!!!
> In a couple of cases the timer went into negative values, though.
Well, that is definitely not a feature. :)
> So maybe you can include a slight delay...
Thanks, I will give it a try. I have played trough it so many times and I cheese the battles myself, so this is a problem I have to solve.
I loved the graphics and the slight glitch effect. You managed to put together a complex game in such short time.
The battle system is really innovative and works perfectly.
Congratulations! 5/5
* You don't really have time to read the stats during battle. Less text and more clearer on the things that is still there, like healthbars.
* The text describing what part the enemy was protecting/attacking was switched from when I was supposed to do the input. The time limit made that small part fry my brain on a couple of occations. Just such a small detail that really enhanced the experience!
Also, the feeling of being vulnerable when having to leave your mech to be able to go inside a building: also adds to the atmosphere a lot! Well done!
