HexaGlitcher is a top down shooter. The goal of the game is to score as many points as possible, therefore killing enemies. What's the highest score you can reach?

Controls

Use the space key to navigate through the menus.

Use WASD to navigate the player. player.JPG

You can shoot if you hold down the left mouse button. shootin.JPG

Mechanics

Enemies and the player can break the floor. It is possible to break the floor by moving around. floor.JPG

Once the floor has turned completely red it gets dangerous for the player. The player instantly dies when he moves onto red tiles. Luckily the floor slowly regenerates. floor2.JPG

Enemies

There are three different enemies in the game.

First, there are small red enemies. They are fast but easy to kill. enemy1.JPG

The orange enemies are pretty slow, but they can also destroy the floor by moving around. They have a total of 25 lives. enemy2.JPG

Then there are also infected floor tiles. They will spread across the whole map and prevent the floor from regenerating itself. enemy3.JPG

Pretty fun game! Definitely has an Agar.io feel to it. The graphics are also very good for a game made it 48 hours.

Superb game feel ! I really like the simplistic art style, with that slight blur/shakiness to everything... are you using post processing effects to achieve that look ? Also the gameplay is very neat ! A really lice take on the theme :) !

@noa-calice Yes, I'm using the Unity Post-processing stack. I'm glad you enjoyed it.

Hmmm i dunno if I like the visuals or not. I think it like it, but maybe would have appreciated a slightly more subtle image warping effect (my eyes my eyes! :D ). Mechanics are solid. Great entry.

Nice game !! I love the overall mood it has.
I see that it supports a joystick controller even on the web version, do you know of any place to find infos about making 2 xbox360 controllers work on web ?

@amaury I'm not really sure if it works with a joystick controller. You will probably be able to move around, but aiming and shooting won't work.

Tried playing it now on macOS using Safari, game loaded and music started but no visuals or repsonse after loading.
Will try again later on Linux+Firefox. #opensource4life

Love the art style and the mechanic of hot zone. I think that this game has potential to become something more with the introduction of different enemies and maybe mazelike levels.

Good Job!

Yep, worked fine on Linux+Firefox.
My opinion:

+ Concept
+ Variety
+ SFX
+ Shoot speed
+ Synth
- No 'return to menu'
- Instadeath with added bloom on extreme
- No highscore
- Camera (Cinemachine might be worth a look)
- Humor

All in all, 4/5.

Love the graphics you chose for this one. The warping around the edges definitely makes it harder to see while playing, but I think that's the point? I tend to not be someone to read game rules before jumping in, and I'm glad to say I really didn't need to for this game! (Huge bonus points.) It was a great use of the theme, as well... Really don't have any major critiques. Very replayable. Really solid game all around! Great work. :)

Wow this is an exemple of Game Design, I think you can continue this game after, he have a great potentiel, graphic are clear and we understand instantly the board.

I dunno if it's just me but I Have a bug on all my try, At one moment the character's direction is blocked, he's heading right into the wall every time and I can not do anything about it ( I think is when I shoot a lot)

That is a really well made game. Fun to play, great theme, solid mechanics and charming atmosphere. It just gets tiring for eyes after a while because of blur effect but overall, it is a great game!

Very nice to play, with smooth controls, nice graphics and pleasing sound.

Also, liked the warning you putted in the beggining. It could really be useful for someone with epilepsy.

Excellent work!

@maximebou weird. Are you playing the html version of the game?

Extremely fascinating game mechanics! Driving music that keeps your blood pumping, fitting sound effects and graphics. I love the idea of having a fast firing rate at the beginning that starts to slow down after a while.

Having a highscore would have been nice.

For the HTML5 version: Sometimes the input gets stuck, and I have to repress the same key that started the movement - typically that moment gets you killed, and not by own fault, but by a bug in the game mechanics. That is of course suboptimal.

Other than that so far the most driving game for me on this LD. Would be awesome if you fix this little issue

@mshopf @maximebou The problem with the "input getting stuck" also occurs on Windows. I'm able to reproduce it, if I click outside the game.

Great game, very fun to play. I like how if you hold the attack down it gradually slows down, great way to discourage holding the attack button the whole game. Enemies making death tiles on death as well as the tiles your standing on slowly turning into them fit the theme nicely, and are fun game mechanics. Music is a simple loop which sounds alright but it was a little repetitive. Graphics are simple but it matches the simplicity of the game. Overall, great entry, good job!

Great atmosphere with this one, even the epilepsy warning at the start helps enhance this. This game is DANGEROUS :D

Really good call having the "red stuff" spread not only as you walk but by exploding enemies.

Movement could use some work. Right now it feels like I'm accelerating with thrust, like a spaceship, instead of running around. This felt bad when I'm trying to move perfectly between red areas that insta-kill you. A lot of times I died because the player did not stop moving quickly enough after I let go of the key.

The idea of the game is nice i like it, it fits the theme quite nicely, i think the pacing of it could be improved plus the music is also a bit repetitive.

@deadeyejoe02 Thank you for playing my game. If you download the windows version of my game, you would be able to change the inputs and swap WASD with other keys.

@andreb can you please elaborate a bit more what you mean by "the pacing of it could be improved"? Is the game to slow or to fast and if so, have you tried the different difficulties?

Great game! I like some of the twists that makes this an original shooter, like the infected tiles and the slowing down of your firing. A pity you have only one life, which means starting over again from zero very often. This slows down the pace of the game for me, because at the beginning you are just waiting for enemies to appear.

Solid entry, i like how the floor has multiple states (red/yellow/idle and all colors in between), that makes the area so dynamically awesome. I think one missed opportunity would've been that the orange enemies if they die they'd "clean" the floor instead of being "just a bigger red enemy". Another small nitpick (which i assume this game was made for downloaded version mostly) is that the controls sometimes bug out in webgl especially when you "drag" while shooting. This is easily fixable though but just a heads up ;) Really fun mechanic though good job!

Instant fun! This simple but effective concept works very well. I restarted the level after dying multiple times. Add a few differents levels and weapons and you have a cool complete game! When is the battle royal mode out? Cheers!
