Loved the graphics, moving and shooting looks awesome.
I'd suggest to put an indication on the edges of the level, with all the feedback and the confusion it's hard to recognise floor from wall.
The ground tiles don't look great though, since the same texture is used for both floors and walls, also makes falling off easier. Also I think the game could do without falling off the edge feature, or make it possible only on some places.
Gameplay and shooting feel great, tho I wish there is more of that, and less falling off from edge stupidly.
The music, sounds, and graphics all work together and are satisfying.
To echo some of the other comments, the game is a little unforgiving. Falling is especially annoying. I wouldn't mind so much if it didn't take forever to fall. You could circumnavigate this by making the sides of the stage those yellow walls.
Falling was really annoying, maybe due to the fact that the ball appears bigger than it really is. and I got stuck on edges sometimes.
Except for that, good level design and good puzzles ideas. Well played! =)
The graphics are surprisingly good for a GameJam, and they're really clear and effective.
Now, the one thing i didn't really like were the insta-deaths. I mean, i get why they're there, and i wouldn't take them out. But you got a good and fast respawn system that avoids the game feeling frustating, but... whenever you fall out of the map, it falls apart. It takes too long, and you're staring at your player for a few seconds doing nothing. It breaks the pace of the game. Is isn't that often, but it made the "Speedy red-wall of death" section feel very tedious.
And also, the walls. I don't know what i'd do with those, but slightly getting close to one after finishing an encounter, dying and having to repeat it all over again...
I don't wanna be a downer, i really, REALLY enjoyed this game. I just feel that, polishing this rough corners, this game could get really far! With a little more work, this is honestly a game i'd buy to spend some time playing.
Great work!
Towers shouldn't spend their power when you're at max health. I'd like to be able to come back and regenerate when I need to. There are also some annoying deaths in the game. It's a game that should be difficult, and you're supposed to die sometimes, but falling off the edge over and over is just annoying. I'd have liked to have more blue walls so that I don't fall down all the time. Games should be challenging, but the challenge should never be an annoyance.
Lastly, I discovered a weird bug that occured several times. Sometimes I move around and shoot even if I don't click any buttons. It's like the buttons get stuck. I don't really know how that's possible, but it's really annoying. I think it happened only when I respawned. Maybe you reload the exact state of the game at the time of the last checkpoint, and if I happened to be shooting at the time of saving, it starts shooting by itself when I respawn? To stop it I have to click and release the buttons that were autonomously activated.
Solid controls & shooting, fitting graphics & audio, great sense of detail, good level design & a staggering amount of action for an LD jam entry make this a really top tier game.
My main suggestion would be to have the camera zoom out a bit, because it can get frustrating, especially in the last level.
Like some others I agree that with more contents and better difficulty management this could definitely be turned into a paid indie game. Congrats!
Keep it up!
