Tale of Visions is a Sidescrolling Visual Novel. You follow the Story of David.

Game Controls: Space to Continue Backspace when Prompted

Game Screenshot 2.png

This game was originally supposed to be a Side Scrolling Rhythm Shooter Visual Novel where David falls deeper into Despair while fighting his own demons.

Since I am yet pretty new to programming, and haven't been working too much on C#, I fell short on this, and decided to scrap the Rythm Shooter and Despair parts for now. I may add this into the game later.

I really hope you enjoy reading through this story! There are still a couple of bugs in it that I will fix tomorrow, just too tired at this point to go on :).

My primary character Graphics is based off of the style in Soul Game, which is a game I'm closely following and look forward to playing in the future!

Would be nice if first Space click showed the whole sentence and next one skipped to the next. Interesting take on a theme, looking good for a 48-hour game. RIP headphones users tho...

@Moczan Hey! Yeah, I had no idea how to show the sentence with first Space haha. I had so little time this weekend, just managed to push this into my schedule. :). By the way, howcome RIP headphone users? Was the background music too loud? I tested it with my headphones.

Man... That a rough story!

The music and visuals totally nailed the mood!

Damn.. The music is simple but make me feel very horrified.

@Madao Hehe yeah! I made the music using FL Studio, it is only a single loop :). I made the music before I made the game, and it kinda set the mood for the story I wanted to do!

@sheehan Haha sorry, after I did the music, I wanted a story that would be something like that, I actually made the 3 endings later, and decided that the main char was crazy. He was originally supposed to be fighting his own demons and fall into despair due to the situation that he was in, but afterward ended up being the crazy one, as I thought it would be easier to explain, and also I couldn't write an actual story haha.

@snipera Nothing to be sorry about! If you going to tell a story, you should tell one that hasn't been told before. You definitely captured that! I'll admit it was harsher then I expected but better that then another "go save the princess tale." Plus, it made it remarkable and different. Keep up the work and you'll only get better!

To be honest, I wasn't able to pick up the 'visual novel' aspect until I read the description here. Keeping that in mind, it's quite interesting. The story was interesting and how its presented was very cool.

That walk animation tho!

Interesting take on the game, you took a lot of risks with the story and the presentation. Good job, too bad it feel a bit unfinished.

@Lazlo319 LOL I didn't manage to ween out the walk animation like I wanted, so the loop wasn't perfect hahaha. I meant to fix that but didn't have the time. Was the first time I was doing animation using bones, as last time I had simply used sprites.

@Toulou Thanks! Yeah it was a bit unfinished, there were a lot of moments missing from the story, the whole section on the demons, I had to completely remove, along with wanting to make the shooting a rhythm based timer rather than simply pressing Space or Backspace :\. If I have the time, I'll definitely pick this up and complete it the way I originally intended to :).

Hey tried your game out. I think pressing space should complete the dialogue instead of skipping to the next one. The words are popping out too slowly. I liked the plot twist in the story. Art wise, the walk cycle wasn't looping well but everything else was consistent. According to your post, you're not so good with C# yet but you are making valiant efforts in improving and that's great. Basically just keep at it hope to see more stuffs from you in the future.

As others have already pointed out, it did not feel quite as polished. The walk animation, for example, was very jumpy, and other minor things, like the gun shot sounding before the gun was held up at the target, etc.
But the good thing is, that all those things are relatively easy to improve upon! You have produced a solid visual novel, with a nice story line full of tension, which was intensified through the music you created. I really wanted to finish the story and get to know the end, and overall liked the experience a lot!

I'll start by saying that visual novels aren't really my cup of tea and the presentation on this was a little rough around the edges. I would've liked to have been able to skip to the end of the dialogue to progress a little faster, and I found some of the dialogue to be a little out of place. That said, I really liked the ending. It caught me by surprise and I think it shows that you have something special here in terms of the storyline. Nice work on the whole.

This is a very unique game you did there and I like it. It has a very creepy feel to it and that is actually a compliment:)

I believe if you had more time to work on it you would have produced something much deeper and affecting. It needs a lot of work and time for sure both on the concept and the mechanics and I encourage you to keep working on it and keep us updated.

Good work :)

Well done! Impressive in such a short time being new to programming like you mention, and you still got time for music and writing too! You achieved a tense mood, nicely done. Keep it up!

As others have mentioned, it's unpolished in the visuals. I also think that the text pops up slowly and wish it could be controlled a bit better.

That being said, the story, combined with the music, kept me hooked throughout the entire thing. The visuals had potential and I can see this style going somewhere for you. All in all, I actually really enjoyed this!

Well done :)
