Bum Bag Bangin' by DuzzOnDrums

bagin.jpg Oi Oi!

Headin' to work, geezers be starin' green with envy over yours truly. Got me a new codpeice, a bum-bag banger. Turning heads like no other, the pack on ma fanny drawin' eyes like a well fit bird.

And now I'm in trouble, head's swellin', seein' double. Let me through, let me through, I can take a complement or two, but this is ridiculous. I got less than minutes, and every second me ballsack-rucksack's drawin' mad crew.

It's bad news for the ego of a wizard like me bro. Let's go Let's go Let's go!

Yay! A new Sea Dads game!

This fantastic. You guys succeeded in what I was trying to do: take a simple game and cram it so full of style and charm that you make something special. Without being too self-deprecating, I missed the mark a bit this time, but you guys hit it with the writing, voice-acting and level and character designs.

Bravo.

LOL this is so good!

The presentation of your game is fantastic! And the game is amazing as a whole.

The only thing I didn't like is that I found its kinda repetitive, maybe you could add 1 or 2 spells/attacks and scale the difficulty. But in my opinion the mood and concept of the game were flawlessly executed, good job!

Finally someone has the guts to take the biggest fear of the common fanny pack enthusiastic working man and take it into a game! I really laughed hard :D. Great game and really polished too! Thanks!

Follows the theme well, but that's not the highlight of the game. The fantastic art, amazing and surreal voice lines, and the humor that is the cherry on top.
It's a very creative game, but the game-play could be a little more complex with the addition of something like power-ups. The game gets a little too impossible after a while, haha.
Definitely a high-light so far!

This game is my jam.

Boom from the start I'm blown away by the artwork popping out, the 2.5D is setup without a hitch.

Then the voice over comes in and the vibe is set.

Then the gameplay begins and I'm loving these characters, their animation, the things they say and the words above their heads, I almost don't want to kill them because I want to hear it play out.

Gameplay is tight. Quality is consisitently high. Concept is brilliantly dumb.

Well done.

Holy shi-. I don't mean to explode all your heads, but DAMN this is a tight delivery for a gamejam. Missed variation in gameplay, but the art, humor and overall execution makes up well for it!

i think we have a weiner.
Totally agree with above comments. I would have loved to see how you would have handled other shooting types or more enemy types. I guess thats all i would want from this game; more.

Love what you did based on Ego :)
The atmosphere is really well set up, lively beat, It would have been really awesome with more enemies, or something more challenging. But I know that everything was also a matter of time challenge.
Oh, the only "disappointment" I have is the font you used for the title ^^
It just feels impersonal compared to the whole game. In other words, very very pleasant entry.

The quasi rythm game aspect is really cool, but there is not much you can do in the gameplay ; it gets monotonous. I love it nonetheless for the experience ! The setting is superb; just a bit more of a game in there would be AWESOME . ( the use of sound is wonderful )

EDIT : if the "text" display was flying towards you like a bullet you could dodge, it would make the game complete as a so very pretty shmup !!!!

That's an awesome art style dudes! I love the animations and the humor.
I also played your version 1.1 and I it's now much more enjoyable.
Great work.
It feels now better when you have many enemies to shoot and the screen shaking is well done.
But I think the movement is have a specific destination like a boss at the end of the level
or a highscore you have to reach.
I hope I will see more? :D I love it!

This is one of the most charming games I've played all jam! Everything about it is really really damn solid. Art, Music, Voice acting, Sound effects, Programming. Everything mashes together really really well and creates a unique personality for the game. I don't know if the core idea can be taken too much further than this jam, but the team you guys put together should 100% keep making games. You guys can make some really really good, really really unique stuff! So please go do that!

Oh man, thanks to that bit of work at the open, immediately after I was done playing this I had to go throw on a taste of "A Grand Don't Come for Free." I haven't heard that stuff in years and years, but it came right to mind.

This was a lot of fun. The mechanics were really basic, so it wasn't like omg what gameplay, but the art was excellent and even more importantly it was brought alive with nice animations and effects and of course that great voice work. It was awesome that you had a nice variety of lines and that it backed actions of both the enemies and the player. Music did a sweet job of keeping the audio on grounded footing without getting in the way.

If I could add one thing it would be a score/distance shown to me on death.

Also, good grief that is a horrifying painting; I hate looking at his face but find it hard to look away.

Nice entry!

Is most beautiful game in all of Krusz. Mainly because is only game.

Gameplay was a little simplistic, but everything else about this was top shelf. Art, animation, voice acting... maybe the most personality of any LD game I've played.

I was smiling the entire time! That was a very fun game.

I loved all the people "filling" my ego with their sayings. I was laughing by the end.

Unless I missed it, I didn't see what more score or time was. I waited for a bit after my head exploded expecting a "end" screen but didn't get one. Maybe I didn't wait long enough.

Overall a very enjoyable and solid game. Fantastic job.

Thanks everyone for the awesome feedback. Yeah we had the idea for trying to avoid people giving you complements early on but it took us ages to work out what game to put around it. Kinda pivoted to being a sidescrolling shooter on the last day and didn't really double down on any shooter mechanics. But really happy it's still fun!

@pkenney Ha ha, yes I was trying to channel the Streets writing those lyrics, listening to the Original Pirate Material album over and over :D

Fantastic presentation, art and audio is GREAT, the comps people drop are just off the charts, humourous, stylish!

BUT... The gameplay itself is very lacking, there doesn't seem to be much more to the game than to shoot everything in sight - hitting obstacles isn't very interesting either. Eventually I realised that since shooting is free (as in, no downside to shooting), why not just keep shooting forever... And that means I randomly hit half the targets, and the other half isn't hard to hit. And it could go on for like EVER, and that was no fun.

The game doesn't seem to get harder then, at that point. I would have liked to see something that made the big head affect the game so the gameplay feel changes over time.

Where's the bit where everyone's running behind you? Didn't see anything that looked like that in the game.

The graphics are really great and the sound design (music + voices) just amazing. It really made me restart the game over and over. However, I thought the level was very easy (I pressed the space bar all along) and I'm a little bit frustrated that nothing really happened when I died (a scoring window would have been nice). Anyway, really cool game!

The mood, the audio and the graphics greatly balance the super simple gameplay, for which I'm sure time and further development will make the difference... I hope to hear more about this project in the future!

Holy shit the voice acting at the start had me in tears, I wasn't ready for that. Gameplay could have been stronger but I doubt that's the point of a game like this. By far the funniest game I've seen in the 4 years I've participated in Ludum Dares.

Loved the character and environment design. Crazy and full of details, and audio + music were a perfect match.

Controls worked great and the theme connection was implemented quite literally, which was a good detail, but the gameplay itself was pretty simple. However, as others have mentioned, surely this can probably be improved easily.

Congrats!

The Polish and Humor is brilliant in this game. I just wished for more gameplay elements. One more Attack or something. But this made me lough out loud so i am really amazed!

Your take on the theme is great. We always try to come out with an original idea, and yours is very different from every other game submitted that i've seen in this LudumDare.
The humor is awesome! I chuckled at some of the stores in the background, as well as some of the compliments. And the growing head thing too.
The game is simple but is very polished and has a lot of attention to detail. Good job!
