Nice idea :) But I especially love the art style!

Cool idea, reminded me of the tony hawk pro skater series where you had to collect "S K A T E" or "C O M B O". Also I really like the art style, pretty unique. Had fun playing this game, pretty awesome.

Nice game love this artstyle, but little bit buggy, ive got stuck somewhere and couldnt get from it. It woul de handy to have restart button.

@wramp Thanks for playing and for your comment! I'm looking into the stuck bug. Seems to be related to the web build. Thanks again!

Gnarly dude! Loved the love and feel.
Fresh take on the theme!

The art style and mechanics are both wonderful in this! It would be nice to have some randomized trick animations for the jumps as the motion gets a little monotonous 3/4 of the way through, but aside from that I never would have guessed this was a jam game

A nice and unique concept. Great Job. The graphics is something unique and fresh, tbh I would be highly pleased if you can make a tutorial on making the shaders like that. Good Luck.

What a blast to play! The controls were definitely a bit wonky at times, but worth it. I really hope you polish and fine-tune this, it's a fantastic idea :)

Thanks for the game!

Love the graphics! Music is annoying. When I exit the cursor I can't bring it back in.

Nice idea! I don't know if its just me, but i was really bad at this game. Highest scoring word i got was "mass". Really polished entry anyway!

Great idea an realisation. It looks very harmonic and chill :) By the way you should add the word LUDUM into the game vocabulary, it's not recognized :)![2018-04-24 (4).png](///raw/deb/21/z/1359d.png)

Really interesting concept, and it works really well! besides a couple times that I got stuck in a wall, it works really smoothly. The art style is also really cool! though the music is a bit repetitive.

Nice game overall! really like it.

Nice game, the concept is interesting and the whole world design and feedbacks with the controls are great.
The only troublesome point is that I had to change my keyboard to qwerty to be able to play correctly, since jumping (spacebar) and arrow keys are a bit hard to reach while playing with a mouse, but once in qwerty I managed to play it correctly. An alternative key to space bar would make the game perfect for foreigners keyboards ;) !

This game answers the theme so well, really nicely done! (even if music got a bit repetitive pretty fast)

Fantastic! I really love skating games and thought it was a blast trying to come up with even simple words in this park. Art direction is top notch. Really memorable entry here!

Nice look to this. I think I suck at the skating aspect, but I spelled "Quilt" and "Relating" so at least I know how to spell those two words.

I really like the feel of this game. It feels like you mashed up scrabble, any skating game, and great graphics to make this. I do have to say I didn't really like the time limit for finding words because I noticed some letters showed up more frequently than others. Other than that, it was utterly perfect.

Well, this one was a surprise. Really nice idea, art and execution overall. I only felt that the mouse wasn't really the best input for the camera, maybe I'm too biased for the Tony Hawk games. With a controller this game will shine for sure.

Damn, this caught my attention really fast! My submission was also (partly) within the typing genre and I loved your approach!

What I loved
* Nice idea, art, aesthetic and execution overall. Felt really polished
* Reminded me of tony hawk pro skater series back in the good old days

My Thoughts
* Took me a few minutes to realise what I had to do & what I was doing but after that it went smooth as butter!
* Camera movement felt weird at first
* No azerty mode :confused:
* Got stuck in the wall once

Overal great game! I’d love for you to review my submission as well.

Very hard to play... Movement too slow for skating at all. But mixes of genres unique and I hd a lot of fun "walking" around skatepark. If there weren't physic glitches and wallstucks... ehh unity...
God job, anyway!

I love this game. It is not as fast paced as I was expecting but it was still a lot of fun. The art style is so great and visually pleasing and I love you color choices. The music is not my taste but it was nice too. I also love how you mixed the 2 genres. Awesome job.

I like the concept and, for the most part, the execution. I felt the graphics shader was a nice touch, the music fitting but not really my cup of tea. But I think you dropped the ball on the controls, though I too may be biased towards Tony Hawk. It all felt a bit slow, and using A and D to strafe instead of turn just feels wrong in a skating game. I was also kind of hoping for some big air jumps to reach all the high-scoring letters.

Concept was pretty cool. Didn't feel super exciting. The music got pretty repetitive. Overall, pretty good submission.

@niterich Thanks for the feedback! I hope to work on this concept more post Ludum. First step would be to get a more THPS like skateboarding mechanic. This was surprisingly really hard to nail in the night I was working on it. Will work on it though :D

Also, obviously need to add some grind support!
niterich
29. Apr 2018 · 17:40 UTC
@travischen For the grind rails, you could make the letters form common prefixes or suffixes so it's more convenient to slide down the whole rail instead of picking out a few letters

Nice game, very fresh visuals + it's pretty cool to do some tricks when you jump even if it's only cosmetic!
On Windows (zip version) I didn't have the nice grain shader you have on your screenshots though!

This was a really cool game. A couple of words I tried weren't recognised (assassinate and understood). The graphical style was really striking and this is a great take on an educational game. If you have time, check out my entry as it's also a word game, though a completely different type.

Graphics are great, controls are a little funky but I guess that's how the skater works. Good job slotting a word game in there, that was quite the incompatible genre!

I found the art pretty cool, but the pace of the game was slow. I think it would be nice to aim for words that should be assembled in a given time. Congratulations for the game.

I left my rating of your game, if you can leave your feedback in our game, Witch's Escape.

I hope you continue with the project.

Interesting concept.
One problem: I played the web build and sometimes I got stuck in a wall.
And I found the word SAU.
I did not expect that I get for this word points because I thought it was just a german word. In german the word sau means sow or pig. Now I learned a new english word. Sow. Thanks. :D
By the way, the graphic style is wonderful crazy. Love it.

Great graphics! And the genres truely are not really compatible - the speed of racing and the deliberate choices of spelling. :D But I had fun cruising and getting some words in. The controls (when I finally got into them) were very smooth.
Improvements:
- Some way to shuffle/rearrange the letters you already got (another minigame?)
- Powerups in far away places that last a short time that double/triple cached words
- Some indication of letter value (different colors/shades of letters?)

Wow, great gfx and i love the idea, a very unusual combination, i think you'll be the only one who thought of that :p
I am not sure if it is my system or a general problem, but the mouse wouldn't gain focus on the game when i played it in chrome Win7-64, so i couldn't 'free look' around which made playing the web build impossible.

Like many others have said its a very good artstyle one of the best i've seen this ludum dare, the combination actually works really well, you wouldnt think so if you just heard the idea but you made it work and made it fun. Good job.
