Screen shake was a bit strong. Maybe make the player "immune" for a short time after being hit, or maybe I'm just really bad at playing :P
I do agree the first boss is really difficult. Feels like you need really good jet efficiency to beat.
Also I found a bug on the second boss. After beating the second boss, the boss kept on rolling and the game never progressed to the next boss. Pressing restart restarted the game from the second boss as well.
Anyway great stuff.
Seriously though, this is a good entry. I liked the graphics and music quite a bit, though you do feel a bit slow for how punishing the boss(es?) is. The screen shake is also just a bit much for my tastes. I also question how these genres are even a little bit incompatible. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: Overall, something to be proud of and I'm mad I couldn't get further.
Very fun game indeed. Beat all the bosses. I do think the first boss is actually the hardest boss funnily enough.
Also just to let you know I found another bug, though this is a lot more of an exception. Seems like the game crashed when you and the boss die at the same time. I really should have saved the exception error message but I unfortunately wasn't thinking. Sorry about that.
Anyway keep up the great work! This game is fantastic!
The screen shake is good, but after a while it gets too much.
I cant get past the first enemies after trying 10-20 times. Seems to difficult.
The art looks really good, good colour palette
Like the cheerful music :fox:
Very hard, but doable if effort is spent. No confusion as to what controls to use or what to do. :)
I got to the second patrolling roller bot.
It seems to me, that all of 3 genres are pretty compatible :)

And despite this I still really enjoyed the game!
It was fun to play, great job. However, it didn't really 'feel' like a bullet hell. It felt like I was constantly circle-strafing and using cover, neither of which are really bullet-hell gameplay at all. An excellent platformer/boss rush though!
The pixel art is great!
Great job this game is a ton of fun!
I thought I would never even get past the first boss. But after a lot of experimenting and many many many many tries I finally beat him. Fortunately the next few bosses were SLIGHTLY less difficult. Let's call the three bosses spinner, roller, and smiler. I beat each of them, and then I beat spinner 2. But I ran out of steam after losing many many times to roller 2.
Funnily, spinner was hardest for me, then roller, and simley was pretty easy. But that may be the tribes thing: smiler was about leading your shot more than dodging, and I just summoned my old chaingun skills.
I was upset that I didn't get even an instant of invulnerability and eating a tripleshot could end me instantly. But honestly I think given this game's brutality, I'm okay with that.
I had to dig deep, as this is more execution difficulty than I normally engage with, but there were three excellent aspects of the game that made me want to do it: first there is the very well done aesthetic of informative and appealing graphics and sound; second the controls are very tight so it's all my fault; and third there is a pattern to be deduced with each boss and so it is as much of a puzzle as it is an execution test.
Every now and then a superhard execution LD comes along that has the package to make me buckle down and this was one of those rare games. Well done!
As others said, the controls feel great! It's got a lot of polish, and the effort put in is obvious (for this game, that's a good thing). I really like the idea of each boss getting more difficult each time you fight them. The phases of the bosses are very well done, and the sound indications are perfect! The art is really cool and fits the game perfectly. The simplistic color scheme works wonders!
One suggestion I think I could make would be a death screen (or just simply a pause button) so that there's a bit more of a break after you die so you can rest your hands if necessary.
When I was looking through the games from the contest, Jet Boy caught my eye immediately. When I saw it was a combination of BulletHell, Platformer, and BossRush, I was sold and downloaded it immediately.
TLDR; Superb for a game jam game!
I died several times for the same boss because I could not divert from the shots, because of the screenshots that occur when I shoot.
Anyway, I believe you have a diamond chest in your hands, and I would like to see a post-jam version of it
take a look on my game: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/vector-rabbits-slayer
I found two things that bothered me the most: the screenshake and the music.
The first one it just feels like a lot when you get hit, so much that I would pretty much lose all references and get insta-hit almost again.
The music while it was cool was too short of a loop so after dying for like the tenth time in the first boss I just started hating that voice.
Other than that maybe the character collider felt too big for a danmaku but I get that's okay for the plataforming factor and the first boss felt kind of frustating, specially since the second one was way too easy.
Nonetheless I had to keep playing and spent like 40 minutes to make it all the way to the fifth boss so that's awesome. Great job! :D
If you find the time take a look at my game, I could surely use some advice https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/nanashi
Thanks!
Visualy looks goods, music goods too =)
Other than this difficulty spike, the entry is amazing, especially the music and how everyhing was 'juiced'. You've earned yourself a follower.
I left my rating of your game, if you can leave your feedback in our game, Witch's Escape.
I hope you continue with the project.
