In the vast emptiness of space, no one can hear you scream...

Thanks for checking out our entry to Ludum Dare #41! Antumbra is a game combining two unlikely and seemingly incompatable genres- Horror and Pet Sim. You must escape a lunar base after things go horribly wrong. At your side is a trusty robot companion. Do you have what it takes to escape the sinister clutches of what lurks in the shadows?

HOW TO PLAY:

Sounds simple enough. Well not exactly. This robotic pet has some basic needs that must be met for it to function properly. These needs are as follows:

Food - Collect oil pickups scattered across the map. With oil in your inventory, look at your companion and click Interact. Happiness - Press 2 to equip the ball and press <LMB> to throw. Energy - Find glowing charging stations at key locations in each map. By looking at the station and pressing Interact, your companion will move to recharge.

There are three resources that you will encounter while exploring the base: Batteries, Oil, and Keys.

Batteries are used to power your flashlight. While it recharges naturally over time, your light will instantly refill if you have a battery in your inventory. Oil is used to keep your companion's hunger sustained. Keys are used to unlock doors, of course!

FLASHLIGHT

The flashlight is a very powerful tool, and your best friend. Use it by holding down <LMB>. Shine the flashlight at an enemy for a couple of seconds to temporarily defeat it. Don't let your guard down though. Danger lurks around every corner

CONTROLS:

Movement - W, A, S, D Equip Flashlight - 1 Equip Ball - 2 Activate Flashlight / Throw Ball - <LMB> Pick Up Item - <LMB> Interact - <LMB>

This game started out as a much simpler project intended for the Compo, and sort of evolved as time went on and people offered help. This is my most ambitious Ludum Dare entry to date and even though it's a short game, I learned a LOT of new things and am very proud of how mechanically complex it is for a 72hr Game Jam game.

We're looking forward to hearing what you all think, and plan on expanding upon this concept- as it actually turned out much more interesting than we had initially thought it would be

As fun as this was, my next submission will probably go to be back to being simple ;)

NOTE:

I do not have a Mac, so I am unable to test or troubleshoot the OSX builds. I hope everything works!

Sorry about the build size- did not have time to reduce it. Will remove unnecessary files and reupload!

I did not make most of the sound effects, so I have opted out of the Audio category. That being said, thank you to all of my friends (they are listed in the credits) that helped voice this project!

Very nice game, I enjoyed playing it! Very good sounds for such a game, the first enemy really scared me xD One time the robo dog didn't bring back the ball after throwing, so I wasn't able to make him happy anymore :( Well done!

Thank you @MinikinKay for your feedback! Glad to hear that you enjoyed your time with the game, and I'm sorry to hear you ran into that bug! Your complements on the sounds really mean a lot to us, we're all very happy with how they turned out given the time we had :)
