Cool art everywhere, from the game sprites to your team's logo :)

The only things that bothered me are the "How to play", which doesn't match the actual controls, and the fact that sometimes I could mash the buttons and solve the puzzles before they appeared on screen.

I got quite confused, I was mashing the buttons hoping for something to happen and wouldn't see anything happening, and then I didn't see any obstacles since apparently I was solving all the problems before they got to the screen.

There is a bug that lets you apply the runes before the obstacle appears. We're working on the fixes.

The art for the game are amazing, congratulations! I think the game is a bit slow, maybe you can make it a little bit challenger making it faster.

Nice game. The auto-runner with the spells thing make an interesting combination, and of course as the game goes on, it gets harder. At one poing I saw myself smashing all the buttons to see if a I get the correct combination, jaja. The graphics are very well done, and the music do the job. Congrats!

@Rodrigo Denúbila the game over time is getting faster and more challenging, appearing more runes in the sequences and increasing speed.

Nice game, the graphics were really good and the game felt quite polished because of that. The puzzle idea was interesting and you implemented it well.

As others have said, the game felt quite slow to begin with and you can very easily solve the puzzles by pressing all the buttons repeatedly. Having some punishment like having the player stop for a second or something like that would be better and force the player to think more.

Cool entry, well made game

Its a fun idea. Aside from the things mentioned from others (slow start, button mashing to win), I felt that the sound didnt really match the pixel art. Epic Orchestral songs tend to work better with more realistic graphics, and I think a more playful sound would have worked better with the art style. But, of course, with sound, that is just a preference.

Overall, fun game!

The art style is great! I'd suggest a minor penalty for button mashing all the keys, which makes the game super easy. Also, the pits are no longer a danger after reaching a certain speed.

High score of 3444! But only because I found you could mash all the keys at once without penalty.

Blown away by the art, game looks super profesional. The pacing was a bit weird though. I'd recommend- speeding up the running speed, giving the player double of the same icons before two different ones so they don't mistakenly think like I did that you are supposed to hold both buttons down. And I'd have the difficulty ramp up much faster.
Good job again in completing something that looks so good within the deadline!

cool game. the art is amazing. I have 2 points that might improve your game, the first is that you should try to put the spell list and arrow keys under the wizards, and make the spell symbol on the obstacles bigger. The second is that increasing the speed of the wizard will reduce a lot the time to press the buttons and that will make the game really hard, I have problemas pressing 2, if you add a third one it will become impossible. so i think that the best way is to reduce the distance between obstacles, it is kind anoying to wait for the next obstacle. Are you from brazil too? oopi games has a site?

Fun idea, but I think it might be a bit better approached as a rhythm game, it didn't really feel puzzle-y to me. There's also no punishment for just spamming all the buttons repeatedly so that makes it fairly easy for anyone who chooses to do that. Graphics were great.

I enjoyed your game and don't really have anything to feedback that hasn't already been said! At first I thought it WAS a rhythm game and kept trying to spell-on-beat until I realised that was not required XD It would be nice if it detected if you were pressing keyboard keys or gamepad keys and switched the spell icons to arrows if using the keyboard - the colour visual indicator makes it much easier on a gamepad because it matches the colour of the buttons - when playing on keyboard I had to keep converting a colour to an arrow which just made it that little bit harder.

There also needs to be some sort of punishment for pressing the wrong button because as someone else said atm you can just sit there pressing all the buttons really fast randomly and you'll get through an awful lot without even trying!

I liked the art and the premise and I thought the audio was pretty good too - good job!

Nice little game, the difficulty progress is really slow, and it starts to be boring after the second "one button press" after that the difficulty increase and it starts to get interesting but not as much as expected :c I feel like it miss a gameplay element, maybe between 2 problems or maybe like stamina guard drowning and you have to make it rise even with problem facing, with this and a bit more feedback/game feel ; I think it would be awesome ! Anyway, gud music and art, liked it !

What a great game! You can publish this on mobile pretty much as it is (slight polish, adjusting controls for mobile etc.). A 5/5 entry in my book. The one thing you could potentially improve upon are different spell effects for each input but that's a small thing. Also, I've encountered some small audio glitches once the difficulty of the game was ramping up (no idea what was causing them but they weren't really that severe).

Overall, amazing job!

Nice game. I like the idea but the game mechanics are easily exploitable by clicking randomly on all arrow buttons. I think it would be nice to either add a penalty on wrong key presses or make the spells consume mana which can be recharged by drops coming after defeated puzzles. The art is really nice and the music is really good. Great job.

nice entry. I enjoyed listening to the music for the first 3 minutes, after what it got quite repetitive. The two genres are well combined and the game becomes quickly addictive. Fun little game. I especially liked the graphics, music and the setting/mood they created. The puzzles were a neat idea, but since they are random (rather than having specific spells work against specific foes/traps) I kinda started cheesing them when it got more complex by simply pressing all keys at the same time and spamming them once the required combinations got longer.
Having a penalty from casting the wrong spell and more predictability (learn spellcombos that counter specific traps) might push this to be truly addictive =)

Started a little slow but got really intense when having a press multiple buttons! Fun little game music really captured the mood, the art felt really polished although a death animation for the guards rather than the purple rectangle would be really good! Felt I could cheese the more complex combinations by just hitting every button so perhaps add a punishment for the player when they press the wrong button combination.

Looks great! I wish it was a little more forgiving for messing up later, like make if you mess up an obstacle you get pushed back 1 unit and you have 3 spaces before you get game over, and if you are on a streak you regain your lead on the enemies. Also maybe a penalty for pressing the wrong button, because I got pretty far just mashing all of the buttons at the same time.

Nice take on the theme. I've always found endless runners boring, but the puzzle aspect of this game made it fun. The beginning was a little slow. I would suggest making it so that if you press forward, you run a little faster. I kept expecting the knights behind me to help or count as lives, but I guess they're just there for aesthetics. The particle effects looked really nice. I couldn't tell if there was any penalty for pressing a wrong button.

Wow, the music was really epic! As for the gameplay it is quite fun to type those spell combinations, but I wish the character stood on the far left of the screen, so there would be more time to react to incomming dangers, it would be a lot more convinient to take a look at your controls in the middle this way (shorter path for the eyes to take) and there would be less dead screen space with nothing happening. Overall this game is really good and well put together and I would play it much more if it wasn't so damn slow in the beginning and got to the real challenge (2-3 spells combinations) a lot faster.

Really liked the pixel style and the music was epic!

However like many above I just spammed buttons with no penalty which sucked all the challenge and fun from the game :( I also felt the pacing was a bit boring. It would have been cool do see more than one enemy on screen at once and for the character to slow down - almost like a quick time event where I had to hit the buttons in the right order.

As for penalties, perhaps every time the wrong button was pressed - i.e. a failed cast - knock the wizard backwards towards the chasing knights. When the wizard reaches the knights it's game over.

Nice game. I was just getting bored with the single button sequences when the two-button sequences began to appear - I would say they should maybe start a bit sooner. Missing the sequence for the spike pit did not seem to have any negative effect, which I'm sure is just a minor bug. The graphics are great but the knight animations could use some up & down motion, like the witch has. Music and sound are also great. Good work overall!

I found the gameplay a bit slow at first, and too much 'one button' obstacles during a long time. But then when it's accelerating, it's so much fun! The graphics with the music fits perfectly this Middle-Age ambiance. I loved it ! As a PC gamer, it was sometimes hard cause I wasn't sure of what arrow was the good color. Maybe you could add a 'choose menu' at first, between keyboard and controller, to adjust the button on top of the obstacles. ;) Congrats to the team!

The spike pit never stopped me even when I didn't hit both the spells in time. But great experience overall, very nice effects, nice artstyle, fun gameplay! In the first run, it caught me totally by suprise that more spells are needed for obstacles, so maybe I would introduce double spell obstacles sooner in lower speed so it breaks a bit the boredom with slow coming one spell obstacles in the beginning (didn't seem that long to me, but some guys actually pointed it out in comments) but also informs player that the difficulty will be increased also in this way. Overall I enjoyed it very much! Thanks for that!

Also audio is great, both music and sfx (even though there's still room for a bit more effects), but didn't work for me in chrome on gamejolt webGL version of the game, had to download it. Don't know if there's anything you can do about it though or if it's just gamejolt's fault.

Maybe the only issue is that it starts very slowly but the difficulty at some point raises too fast with both the obstacles coming one after the other with multiple spells to cast.

Great concept!

Great concept and mix of themes! I liked the art style, it has a personality of its own.
I had problems with the audio though, it didn't play any sound whatsoever, even after refreshing the page (I'm using Chrome btw).

I would suggest to add a mana bar or some kind of limitation on the spell usage, since I kept spaming the spells over and over again and destroyed the obstacles for about 8 minutes, before they even appear at the screen.

Leaving aside this "exploit" it has lots of potential, it can be tricky sometimes to react fast enough. I've got some Temple Run vibes :)

Congratulations on the project! Great entry!

Awesome game. I thought the art style was really good, and with some more time in the animations could be great. The music was good, though the looping of the music was pretty noticeable. As far as the gameplay goes, I would say the start is too slow. After dying, I felt like it was a chore going through the start that was really slow again. There also seems to be no penalty to just button mashing. For example, if the enemy is a BBB, and I mash BAYBXB there is no penalty and it just works. There also is no reward for executing flawlessly, so it seems to just promote mashing buttons. Aside from those couple things I really enjoyed it and thought it was very well done!

Good job! I like the art, and the theme fits very well! I know that it has been mentioned by many other people, but I will say it again: Add a penalty or prevention against spamming keys. Just spamming to win kills the fun factor, especially since it does so well. Add some sort of impediment to this, like a magic bar that goes down as you press keys but refills over time and when you destroy stuff. Pretty good audio, and a pretty good mood too. I recommend opting out of humor so you don't get dragged down by the rating.

Good job, and good luck!

Very nice visuals and great music. Clear mechanics, challenging at later stages. What I missed were checkpoints - beginning is a little bit slow and long (which is good for the first run, player has time to figure it out).. but when I die i have to go through this slow stage again.. I enjoyed the sprites and the music the best. I didn't feel like there was a risk/reward system in the runner or puzzle mechanic. If I hit the wrong color, I could still hit the correct color, so I didn't feel any tension while playing the game. In my head, I imagined the wizard flying around and doing all these cool moves that require some strategy and planning. The controls are quite crisp and responsive, when I hit a button I always hit the button and it did the thing. Nice job. Cheers!

I played the web version (in-browser) and there was no sound (maybe error on my end?). The sprites and visuals were nicely done. The gameplay felt a little slow in the beginning; I feel like the in-between time could be shortened a little. I think a larger variety of obstacles/enemies could make this game last longer. Overall, great work!

@not-the-real-mark-zhang The game has sound, I do not know what's happening in the web version. Sorry about that. Thanks for playing.

I really liked the core gameplay, the idea behind it as lot of potential and fits the theme well. Like most people I quickly found the key mashing 'hack' however I forced myself to play without it. And I have to say it was really nice, tense, game.

The pixel-art is very well done and gives a nice retro feel. However I didn't liked the particle effect when defeating an obstacle. This is most likely very personal. I prefer when pixel-art games have consistent pixel density.

I don't know if you want to keep working on the game. But one thing I noticed is when playing a second time (which I did after finding out the key mashing) the beginning of the game feels very slow and too easy. I understand this was done as a 'tutorial' though and it's totally fine for a jam game.

Overall a very solid entry that I had lot of fun to try. Thank you :)

@zappedcow We are thinking of continuing to work on the sim game. We very much believe that mobile will be very good. We are noting all the feedback that this amazing community is providing. Thank you very much for playing and for your feedback.

Nice concept. At first I didn't get what I should do, I was just spamming the arrow keys (and by accident solved the 'puzzles'). Once I got the idea, the beginning was a bit boring. When 3 colors started, I often was just randomly smashing my arrow keys, since it seemed that it didn't matter that I hit the wrong ones. I didn't like that I have to use the same finger for green and yellow. I like the graphics and the epic music. :)

Thanks for rating our game!

This is a great game, I really like the art and music. And just as I was starting to think this could be a little faster paced, I started getting double and then triple buttons and it was pretty fun. Great job!

Hey not bad! I do think the game's a bit easy, especially in the beginning. I think the character should start just a little faster, and the multiple combos introduced much earlier. It wasn't until I was having to figure out three different buttons that it started to be challenging. But good job none the less - really love the art style and direction :)

fun game! Couldn't hear any audio though (I played the web version on gamejolt). Also wished that the multiple combos came sooner, but otherwise its a well polished game that, if on mobile, I'd probably get addicted to

Nice game! Likes others say, it does start out a little bit too slowly (maybe it's more just there's too long of a gap between obstacles).

Also, for the spikes in the floor, if I didn't use the magic the character still ran straight over them and game continued.

Hey!Wow!Amazing work! The graphics and the audio are amazing!the difficulty of the game is very easy, you can press the buttons many times and the obstacles were destroyed alone. To add more difficulty, I recommend you that when you press a button and you make mistakes the game goes faster or you die.Anyways good word :)

Very impressive! Everything here seems very polished and well done. I would recommend that you start out the game a little faster, as the first minute or so of the game drags on (which could be problematic in a game jam where some people will quit within moments if the game seems to be too slow). I would also recommend a penalty for hitting the wrong button. I was able to cheese the system by just mashing all the buttons on my controller, which took all of the challenge out of the game. Overall though, this is a great entry. Excellent work!

Terrific little game! It was pretty easy at first, as folks have said, but then it gets interesting as it goes. Would be a fun thing to take to the next level and have stages and powerups and such. Really well done effects, too! Those particles were really nice. Good work overall! :)

Cool game! I think there's a lot of potential in this genre combination.

The graphics and audio were really well-done.

The gameplay itself was a little slow and simple, but it was fun enough. If you go farther with this project, I suggest leaving less space between obstacles.

Nice idea. The problem is that there does not seem to be any penalty for a wrong button press. So the best strategy is to just smash all the buttons all the time and you don't have to think which buttons to press. Otherwise I think it would be a really fun game.

The art and music are AMAZING! I got a lot pleasure playing this game. Love the idea and how you keep it quick to learn all the mechanics. Would be much better if something happens when pressing wrong buttons, such as the keymapping going wild ;)

Very appealing graphics! The gameplay ist pretty fluid too and the package and genre combination works pretty good generally. I feel like its a little too easy, since there is no real punishment for pressing the wrong spell or spamming all of them, but other than that it was pretty good! Good job!

The game is just so funny when played normally and the experience and the challenge are so good and well put in the place. But once a "bad" player like me comes in, some gameplay flows begin to appear. Because basically I won the game by spamming the arrow keys instantly. But it was a very good experience. Keep it up!
09. May 2018 · 21:52 UTC
Gameplay consisted of pressing all four keys at once... never got a lot harder. Started having combination requests but still wasn't a problem. No audio played and the graphics (King's text) were cutoff when played in the browser.

not to shabby, i like the theme. like the idea of wizards, animation is spot on, controls are easy once you get the hang of them. sound effects and music would add to the game. I also felt it was a bit repetitive and felt like the spell list was in the way. I think it would be fun to have to jump sometimes or increase or decrease your escape speed. still a very solid game!

Not a bad idea. Like others have said, ramping up the difficulty faster would've helped, but the core concept of the game can be very fun. Have you played Audition Online? I used to play that a lot and doing button presses in a quick sequence like that can really make you sweat. They made an entire game out of that concept so I think it's already validated pretty well. A few tweaks and you can have something nice here.

The art is very nice. The slow ramp-up in difficulty was ok for the first run, but once I died and restarted, it felt like a long time to get back to the interesting part with multi-button combos. I would have played more if I didn't have to wait as long between runs for the fun part.

Nice graphics and simple gameplay.

It'd be nice to have some sort of punishment for pressing the wrong keys such as have the pattern reset since you can spam all the arrows, also it seems like the music/sound doesn't work on the WebGL version.

Anyways, nice entry. :)

It would be good to start out going a little faster, but the game was enjoyable overall. Art, music, and sound effects were all pretty good :) Great job!

Noticed some bugs related to aspect ratio: the kings dialog is cut off a bit on the left of the screen, and the position of the element buttons is higher than intended.
These bugs appear on a 16:10 aspect ratio monitor, and on the gamejolt page. The canvas on the page is 960x600 so also 16:10. If you change the canvas to 960x540 that will give you 16:9. You may also want to letterbox the game when it’s not displayed at 16:9 to fix this in fullscreen.

Hi ! I really like your graphics, the characters are beautiful. The music is a also a nice plus. Like others said, you could speed up the start a little bit, not too much, so new players have time to learn the game mechanic, but maybe start with a speed similar to the speed of the game after playing for 15-20 seconds.
The central gameplay is cool and fit the theme. I would recommend adding a penalty when you hit the wrong key, either lowering the score or reset the obstacle, so we wont be able to just press all the keys randomly and get thru. Overall it is a great idea, well executed and that could become something bigger if you continue developing it, maybe add special powers with a cool down that will remove the obstacle on screen etc. Great work ! :)

Cool game, but the music does not work on html5 version ^^' Plus it is easy to break the game by smashing the buttons, maybe yyou should make something like an health bar, and when we hit a wrong button, we lost a live. Also the game is too slow at the beggining, maybe you should make the game harder quickly I think.

Overall cool game, keep coding :)

Nice art and music, the magic particles don't quite fit to the artstyle. I think it starts a bit slow and I'd prefer the obstacles appearing faster. I think it would be more fun to have the keys being displayed above the enemy too so you dont have to check which color is which arrow key, for the beginning at least. That way you could keep your eyes on the obstacles and have more obstacles and there would be more action.

Cool concept, easy to understand a bit slow at startup, between the ryhtme game and the reflexion game, with more feed back and animation it would make an excellent mobile game! (and coins or chest to pick up on the roads by pressing the keys of the right color), continue!

The game is kind of slow to start but once the pace gets fast enough it gets fun. If you expand upon the game I would love if certain spell combinations are associated with specific obstacles because the colors seem meaningless when all the spells are purple. I really like the pixel art and the parallax layers. I don't know if it was an error on my end but I couldn't hear any sound. I am very interested to see how this game evolves. Good job.

Hey, pretty fun game. At first I was getting pretty bored, and wondering if I was missing something. But as the combinations got more complex it started to become pretty interesting. I don't know that I get the theme of it much, but it's not too bad. The graphics were quite good and I liked the music. I was going to say instructions would be nice, but I think it's self explanatory enough.

13. May 2018 · 20:17 UTC
I like this! As others have said, it starts a little slow, but gets tricky pretty quickly as the obstacles get more complex. It would be really neat if certain spells were tied to certain obstacles (like you always need to zap a knight or burn a cart, etc.) and you just had to learn how to deal with the stuff that was coming at you. Look forward to seeing where you take it if you continue after the jam. :)

Oh wowh, so many comments, lol. What I think that is the most important to say about this game is: the first 30 seconds are boring, the rest is really cool. I'm assuming the 30 seconds are for learning, but that can be reduced to like 10 seconds, easily.

But other than that, it looks good, it feels good, it runs well and I didn't find any bugs that would stop me from playing. Congratulations on a great entry and if you have time, please play mine at https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/last-stand

Overall I enjoyed this game the art was nice and the game mechanics were fun when it picked up the pace. But That was one of the bad parts its very slow paced at first and would be more fun if you started off at a higher pace. Also the counter at the top left started 888 888 888 888 which really confused me. This game would also greatly benefit from some music and some sound effects. Here is some software to help you with that for next time :)
https://boscaceoil.net/ and https://www.bfxr.net/. And don't worry there free and very easy to use. Some screen shake when you cast spells would be cool too. Here's a talk about screen shake :P https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tu-Qe66AvtY&t=722s. Good job and thanks for playing my game "yum some" :)

This is pretty fun! I wish the inputs were tied to the objects - like "oh, a chariot, I should cast fire" instead of being random, and that the rythm would be a bit faster, but having to combine inputs is a good way to raise difficulty!
Also, you can just mash every button all the time and can't lose ahah

But good work overall! Congrats

It's always great to see a game with good pixel art! I got to about 5k spamming all buttons before seeing what would happen if I missed a combination. Seems abit simple with button spam, would be better if there were some penalty for this strategy
