Planetone (Planet-tone) is a planetary music sequencer in which players grow plants to create melodies.

Plant sprouts and cacti in 7 different colors and watch your harmony grow and evolve as you plant more.

Controls

Mouse – Place sprout or cactus

Scroll Wheel / Click and Drag Background – Rotate Camera

Select a color from the sprout tab or cactus tab to change your instrument. Sprouts will change pitch according to their height on the planet, while cacti will play a drum beat at the same pitch.

Tempo can be adjusted by clicking the planetary orbit in the bottom left corner.

Toggle between sun and shade to prevent sprouts from growing.

Made for Ludum Dare 38 (A Small World). Sounds sampled or created using an OP-1.

This was nice. It really gave me a nostalgia trip back to playing with Flash Sound mixers on Newgrounds. This one was unique in that I don't think Ive seen any of these with a distinctive Sci Fi/Planetary Exploration Twist. I think you can really run with this concept. Add some more plants that you can grow a world with, giving you more tones, and you'd be good. You could make a simple yet fun sound mixing game that people could then share with friends on say Facebook. Making sharable Sci-Fi tunes.

Otherwise nice work. I showcased this game in my first Ludum Dare 38 showcase vid.

Graphics and audio are fantastic. Spamming different plants and just seeing what it sounds like is a delight.

Sadly I couldn't play because no linux version, but watched the videos, it looks like a lot of fun and sounds really nice. Nice to see some tools being made for LD and it fits the theme well.

This is very cool and super polished. The only thing I would say is maybe the visuals are a bit too bright.

Nice tool! Very nice sounds, good to the ears. Tried to glitch it with overlapping objects, crowding the world, couldn't do it. So good job. =)

Only thing I missed was a faster way to rotate the world.

Congrats a lot for your very solid entry!

Such a beautiful toy! I love how you've managed to fit the game to match the theme with the small planet and weather controls. Playing around with different plants to see how they sound and to try to come up with a nice melody feels great.

Brilliant entry!

Very fun to play with :) beautiful game and music! Didn't really play with the cacti though, they seem to mess up the melody (maybe I'm just bad at music).

Really nice! A very pleasant experience. A few things that I found a little frustrating in terms of usability, though:

Click-hold shouldn't toggle a plant in a square. Many times I would try to click-drag to rotate the sequencer and accidentally plant something as well, which then interrupts the rotation because I have to go back and re-toggle it. It was also a bit difficult to visualize the full verticality for a given step in the sequencer. This made me have to rotate more than I felt I should have to, which would then lead to the other issue happening more.

Not the biggest issues, but wanted to point them out as something that could be improved. Great work overall!

Fun little toy. I wish there was something closer to a snare within the set of cacti.

Such a fun little game. Really enjoyed playing around with trying to make music, especially since I've got no music skills and is why my entries always struggle with it. But this made it such a great experience to be able to visualise the sounds and organise them as you go. The whole design was also great with the different colours and plants. Such a polished entry and just wish there was an export option so that I could save the things I made.

I'm going to be straight up: I'm freaking jealous of your abilities! This is just brilliant! A tonematrix on a planet with beautiful plants and a nice variety of sounds is a big win for me. I hope you keep working on this!

Oh my god that was so much fun! It's super hard to do music when you lock a square that you wanna put another type of instrument on, but I had such a good time playing around with it! The art is great, and the choice of instruments gave it a very good atmosphere. It's really nice to see how "finished" the whole thing looks, too!

Love how this sprinkles in some "Game of Life" with the planet synthesizer idea. Really interesting stuff!

This is gorgeous!! I wish I was more musically inclined so I could make a clever tune with this, but I very much enjoyed playing around with this regardless. The UI is simple and clear and your choice of colours is super appealing.

Only suggestion I can really think of is having the option to spin the world round with WASD or the arrow keys. I think that would be pretty handy.

Sorry I don't have much in the way of constructive feedback. I imagine there's a lot you could do to expand it, but as it is it feels like a completely package.

Really lovely job <3

Played this before judging even started and it's been on my mind ever since. It's a really lovely bit of music making gameplay. I can't really give any more positive feedback since everyone comment above has said it all.
I especially like the indicator in the bottom left, it's a nice chunk of simple genius.

Only feedback I'd like to add is to add some nice, loud percusson plants. Because I'm the kind of idiot caveman that likes to hit stuff and make loud noises.
