Aniu on the mountain by belug23

[raw]
made by belug23 for LD 44 (JAM)

In “Aniu on the mountain” you are snowball rolling down the mountain trying to keep a much snow as possible. At the end of each ride you gain Snow cash depending on the size of your ball at the finish line. The more health (snowflakes) you have the more cash you gain. Between each rides you get access to the shop where you can buy multiple power ups.

I hope you’ll have fun, for us it was a success we had a lot of fun competing in the Ludum Dare 44.

Is the music procedural based on what you hit? It changed a lot. This is an extremely clever concept. I loved it. I found myself playing it much longer than I had thought I would. Good job. :)

Fun game! Controls felt nice and its a pretty cool concept for a game. The graphics were decent (other then the rock texture, I think you would have been better off with a solid gray), The only other problem I saw was that you spelled strength wrong on most of the upgrades. Other then those issues its a decent game. Well done!

@bakenshake I think the music change with the speed you roll (I'm not the one that did the music, it's Belug). Thanks for the comment! :D I found myself playing more than I thought too when we finished it! :dog:

@greenboxgames Aaaaand that's why you don't change the name of all your upgrades 10 minutes before release. X_X
Thanks. :3

Interesting take on the theme!

I think the concept was really cool on paper. I did a few runs and did not really see how I was supposed to maintain snow. It felt like I was doomed, rolling down a tropical hill slowly :(

@bakenshake The music is fixed, but there's 3 tracks slow, medium and fast and the volume of each parts is controlled by the speed. Thanks for the review. I had a lot of fun making it!

@andyg The big trick is not to jump, the jumps cost you life also. I know there's a slow spot on the first 2 or 3 runs.

Le jeu est rigolo de meilleurs textures le rendrait surement plus chouette, comme une vallée enneigée par exemple, la musique est très cool dommage qu'elle s’arrête quand on saut. Chouette petit jeu sinon

Pretty fun concept bu i don't think it fits the theme. Ignoring that it was pretty fun

@Lola, merci pour le commentaire, c'était le but que la musique s'arrête lors d'un saut, je voulais ajouter a l'effet, un peu comme si nous retenions notre souffle.

The way the music reacts with the game is so good!!

Great game, very fun, one of the best submissions I played so far.

I had a lot of fun figuring out new ways to get momentum. unlocks and upgrades kept me playing longer than I would have expected. great job.

That was fun! The idea reflects the theme and the controls are fun and simple. However, you can cheese the game by just jumping straight up and getting 700 points when you land. It's not very clear what the power ups do, and I bought a penguin but wasn't sure how to make it appear. Also maybe a low poly, flat color approach could have made the game a bit more attractive? Either way, it's a very fun idea and it was great to hear the music change depending on how fast you were going. Really gets the blood pumping!

@prideling When you buy a "launcher", the "Buy" button become a "Select" button... I should have made it that buying auto-select, but I implemented that at the last minute, so I was in a hurry. :P
@webthingee, @samueldeboni, @enjoy-the-tale (and of course, @prideling): Thanks for the comment! We LOVE hearing about people liking our game! :dog:

Pretty decent marble-like physics game. I would have liked more variety with the enviroments, because the terrains felt samey even with the randomly placed obstacles. Did like the power up options though.

@gamepopper I understand, we where at 5 minutes of enabling other rides, but we where a the submission time limit. I wish we could have done it tho.

I really liked it! The concept was well implemented with a very different set up. I liked that the scenery changes as you replay and the fact that there are upgrades to buy is a plus.

Nice take on the concept! It was a fun marble game, and that penguin launcher really got me.

The one lesson I would take away from this is celerity. its not really clear how I'm gaining snow, and its not clear what upgrades do. maybe if there was a text that explained a power up when you hover over it, or some sort of codex entry, I would feel a lot more informed.

Well, the physhics and concept are very interesting, with the controls responding very well. I found the music a little odd, but is cool that it reacts to the game somehow.

I guess what it lacks is a clear objective, like a score or number of stages to beat. The concept could be improved if you retain the amount of snow from one level to another, leaving you to decide if you should or not spend in powerups.

Good job!

Was my first Game Jam, so glad people like the result.

@derek-volker We were originally planning more upgrade, and 3 stages: this small mountain, a big one and a huge volcano. But had to cut them due to lack of time. We also toyed with the idea of retaining the snow between launch but wanted to avoid soft lock so decided against it.

Now that I think about it climbing the mountain, gaining snow while losing momentum, would probably had been a better idea.

Pretty good! I couldn't figure out how to use launchers (I bought both of them and tried selecting them multiple times), but besides that I didn't have any other issues. I also managed to unlock all upgrades

@jakupf Congrats on "beating" our game. Too bad we didn't had the time to implement the real last level. And good luck with your game.
