made by Ryan Dallaire for LD 39 (JAM)

A space shooter where you have to plug and unplug your laptop to recharge your ship in the game.

Up and Down key to move your ship. Spacebar to shoot.

You have to be unplugged to move and shoot. (But don't over charge or you will take damage!)

But you have to plug in to recharge your ship's battery. screenshot.png

While the concept is nice, pretty innovative and the game does follow the theme pretty close, some people might find the game unplayable. The concept of charging the ship together with the laptop is really nice, but not many people might like to plug/unplug their power supplies like this, some people might have laptops with a bad battery and won't be able to unplug/plug, while others just use a desktop pc (like me), which renders the game unplayable.

So, my first tip would be: insert a mode to "emulate" charging the battery, or introduce another mechanic that makes the game more accessible to a broader audience.

I played the game on my laptop and it played just fine, though the gameplay felt a bit slow (but, taking into account that you have to plug/unplug the laptop, it's perfect). It's not a bad thing, but takes away some of the fun of playing shooters, where you have to pay attention to the screen (also, let's say you're playing in a table, energy runs out and your cable falls to the ground, kinda not cool :/).

Anyway, good work, you managed to build a game and ship it! So keep making, keep improving and work out the mechanics into an accessible thing. Maybe you could turn this game into something that uses a custom controller, to emulate plug/unplug of a battery/charger, or some kind of an installation. I'd find it terrific! :)

Good luck, good work!
