Background

A bit of a tough theme this one for us! We were a little short of ideas and this seemed as good as we could come up with. In hindsight, maybe chess wasn't the best idea (Good experience, however)!

The basic idea here was to mix chess with card game elements. Chess is, usually, chess... but here, we decided to spice things up a little!

We were hoping to get more interesting mechanics (eg: Ability to change the movement of pieces), but I coded it badly and badly misjudged how much work chess actually is if you want all / most of the rules!

Anyway, hope you guys like it!

How To Play

  • Normal chess rules apply usually (Though, a couple of the stalemate checks are not implemented due to time)

  • Click a piece to select it + click a tile to move to it.

  • Cards will become usable after 3 turns (Black gets a bit of an advantage here as they can use the cards first)

  • Click the card to activate it. Some will affect the next players turn. Others affect your current turn.

  • You can only use each card once -- Use them wisely!

  • Rotate the camera manually by right click + drag. Mouse wheel scrolls in/out.

  • Alt + F4 to quit (sorry...)

I think this idea could be expanded on, but it's a good start

@Christopher Robinson: Very much so - We were hoping to have a much more in depth the card mechanic - Things like: Pawns can take forward this turn, X piece can move like Y piece and so on. Also, a mechanic to draw cards from the deck randomly would have been nice as well.

Sadly, we didn't have enough time nor is the code designed in a flexable enough way. Good lessons to learn, mind! :)
